2023 NATIONAL TABLE TENNIS VETERANS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Kate Carmichael has returned with two Bronze medals from the National Veterans Table Tennis Championships.

This was a week long event held at the ACT Netball Centre in Canberra with 33 tables in use.

Age groups ranged from Over 30’s up to Over 85’s and all up there were 450 players from all states of Australia and New Zealand taking part.

The event consisted of teams events and individual events such as Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

In the teams event Carmichael was a member of the Victorian Over 30’s ladies team and they won five matches and lost two.

On the final morning of the team’s event Victoria scored an excellent 6-4 victory over Western Australia to claim the Bronze Medal.

Carmichael played 18 singles in the teams event and won 13 to be equal best for Victoria with team mate Lydia Lui.

In the Over 30’s Ladies Doubles Event, Carmichael and her partner  Victoria Male from Geelong played well to win the Bronze Medal.

In the individual singles competition Carmichael made it to the final 8 however was knocked out by a strong Western Australian opponent in the quarter final.

At the Presentation Dinner at the Ainslie Football Club on the final day of play it was announced that in the Order of Merit in her Age group

Carmichael was placed seventh in the top ten the best result from a Victorian. This was Carmichael’s first Veterans Championships and to gain selection she

successfully participated in four tournaments throughout Victoria to impress the selectors.
