Sunraysia Table Tennis 2021 Winter Pennant results Grand Finals: –
P1
Tankard Dental 6 (Gavin Carmichael 3, Matt Ljubic 2) def Mallee Bearings 4 (Wayne Carmichael 2, Jackson Tung 1)
Thought Tankards may have blown it after having match points in the fourth and fifth of the first doubles …a great match
Great win by Matt and Michael in the second doubles.
The singles game between Matt and Wayne was the match of the night and the standard lifted the longer it went on
P2
MJM Automotive 6 (Dylan Wood 2, Jeremy Corrin, Marcus Cimino 1) d Max Miller Carpets 5 (Paul Kealley 3, Casper McCarthy 2)
Despite Paul and Casper winning 3 and 2 singles respectively it wasn’t enough and MJM won 6-5 , Marcus sealing the deal in the last.
Both doubles went to five and were oh so close and Dylan defeating Casper 13-11 in the fifth was crucial
Dylan has gone back to back….he and Casper are putting pressure on the grading committee…..just saying
P3
Mallee Meats 6 (Therese Fitzpatrick 3, Ryan Hensgen 2, Ben Hosking 1) d MJM Automotive 5 (Isaiah Bettess 2, Sabrina Fitzpatrick 1)
Wow what can I say…….Mallee Meats steal victory from jaws of defeat.
After trailing 3-5 with 3 singles to go Mallee Meats win last 3 …….Therese comes back after trailing one game to two against Isaiah after losing the third 0-11
Ryan too steady for Sabrina and then the finals specialist Ben Hosking goes to work , I see it but I dont believe it.
Ben defeats Nick in four after stealing the first two 12-10 after trailing in both. Sensational effort.
P4
Dunkley Scales 6 (Wendy Simpson, Ildi Healy 2, Maria Starikov 1) d Tankard Dental 5 (Jacinta Ljubic 3, Tom Gilmour 1)
Magic match but I’ll read Marks account of this one , Ildi and Tom played a ripsnorter …….
Now one more event to go…….Presentation night
Preliminary Final results:
P1
– Tankard Dental 6 (Matt Ljubic, Gavin Carmichael 2, Michael Hensgen 1) d Cookes Pooles & Spas 5 (Joel Thomas 3, Leon Brown 1)
Seesawing match which could have gone either way …..a thriller , a nervous Michael Hensgen played a key role in the second doubles and then a win against this years five set specialist by the narrowest margin in the fifth. Tankards progress to GF
P2
– MJM Automotive 6 (Dylan Wood 3, Jeremy Corrin, Marcus Cimino 1) d Cookes Pooles & Spas 3 (Ash Morrison 3)
MJM bounced back this week after a thumping last week.
Aggregate leader Dylan in form winning three ….great comeback after being two love down against Ash
Jeremy did well defeating Rohan while Marcus started MJM off with a four set win over John in the first game of the night
P3
– MJM Automotive 6 (Isiah Bettess, Sabrina Fitzpatrick 2) d Sammy’s Slammers 2 (Huseyin Ismail, Brian White 1)
MJM in control from the start , both Isaiah and Sabrina won both of the singles they played.
Nick will be better for the run , a good effort by Brian and Huss to defeat Nick
Look out Fitzpatrick v Fitzpatrick GF
So the teams who lost the second semi last week all won this week
P4
Rnd 14 results
– Tankard Dental 6 (Jacinta Ljubic, Tom Gilmour 2, Phuong Hung 1) d MJM Automotive 5 (Nhat Dat 2, Ildi Healy,Maria Starikov 1)
Interesting match …Tankard Dental 5-0 up and then 6-1 before final result was 6-5
Dat defeated the aggregate winner Jacinta, , they both won two singles as did Tom G
The last match was a beauty with Maria being 2-0 against Hung and then Hung levelled the match before Maria won the last 11-6

The Annual General Meeting of the Sunraysia Table Tennis Association was held on the 13th August, 2021 at the Sacred Heart Tennis Clubrooms. It was a great relief to have the meeting, as it had been postponed three times due to COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions.
President Mark Dorman presented his report on activities for the last twelve months, and also the highlights of his time as president and committee member of the S.T.T.A., as he was stepping down from both positions. Mark has been involved with the running of the association since about the age of 15. Also stepping down was Treasurer Chris Carmichael, who was also finishing a term as treasurer of close to 30 years. Both these tireless workers will be missed, although they have not cut ties completely, and are only a phone call away!!
The composition of the committee is therefore the most changed for some time.
Peter Fitzpatrick, Vice-President since 2018 was elected President, Mark Ljubic returns as Vice-President, and Sabrina Fitzpatrick has taken on the role of Treasurer. No Assistant-Treasurer was appointed, although it can be imagined that Sabrina’s husband, Peter, will be co-opted to that position!! Gavin Carmichael remains in the position of Secretary.
Three General Committee members were appointed – Terry Martin, Wayne Carmichael and Russell Walder.
We all look forward to an upcoming successful twelve months.
