Regional Taxation Services have moved to the outright lead on the ladder after defeating Cookes Pools & Spas 7-4 in round four action of the Sunraysia Table Tennis pennant. RTS are now the only undefeated team whilst their opponents with their first loss have dropped to third.

– Regional Taxation Services 7 (Jackson Tung 3, Rohan Reimers, Lee Leeson 1) d Cookes Pools & Spas 4 (Kate Carmichael, Paul Kealley 2)

The standout player in this result was RTS number one Jackson Tung who won three singles as well as winning both doubles when he teamed up with teammates Rohan Reimers and Lee Leeson. Amongst his singles victories was a three-set win over singles aggregate leader Kate Carmichael, her first defeat of the season.

For Cookes Pools & Spas, Carmichael won two singles as did Paul Kealley who recovered from a two games deficit to defeat Rohan Reimers in an entertaining five setter 6-11 9-11 11-6 14-12 11-8. This match featured some unbelievable rallies.

For Tung this was a good hit out as he prepares to leave for a tournament in New Zealand next week as a Victorian representative. Good luck Jackson !!!!

– Weightmans Packaging 7 (Wayne Carmichael 3, Mark Dorman 2) d Choices Flooring Mildura 4 (Jamie Kealley 2, Thanh Nguyen, Marcus Cimino 1)

The Weightmans Packaging team affectionally dubbed the ‘Double Centurions” who consist of Wayne Carmichael, Mark Dorman and Ed Hung moved to second on the ladder with a solid seven – four victory over Choices Flooring Mildura. For the second week in succession, after a delayed start to the season due to injury, Carmichael was on fire winning three singles including a four-set shootout with young gun Jamie Kealley.

To cap off a successful night Carmichael also combined with Dorman and Hung to win both doubles. Weightmans Mark Dorman continued his solid season winning two singles for the fourth round in succession. The experienced Weightmans team will be a force to be reckoned with as the season unfolds.

– Tankard Dental 6 (Shannon Bowen 3, Reece Kurrle 2) d Mallee Bearings 5 (Arhuang (Wong) Lau 2, Leon Brown, Russell Walder 1)

With their second win of the season Tankard Dental have now opened up a two-game break from their opponents this round, Mallee Bearings. As usual a match involving the Bearings team featured a scoreline of 6-5 and for the fourth time in four rounds they have been on the wrong side of the ledger by the barest of margins.

Tankard skipper Shannon Bowen and number two Reece Kurrle proved to be the match winners with Bowen winning three singles while Kurrle enjoyed his best night of the season winning two singles. Together Bowen and Kurrle paired up to win the first doubles in a nail biter against Arhuang Lau and Leon Brown, the scoreline 11-8 7-11 5-11 11-2 14-12 a thriller.

Included in Bowen’s singles victories was a four-set win over the talented Lau; this was a top-class affair with Bowen winning after dropping the first game. He is now equal leader in the singles aggregate race.

Choices Flooring Mildura 6 Therese Fitzpatrick (1), Josh Arnold (3), Shiva Rottela (1) defeated Mallee Meats 5 Michael Tan (1), Harry Gujral (2), Andrew Kremor (1), Chris Chen (0).

Mallee Meats had Choices Flooring down 5 rubbers to 2 as they went into the second doubles, wherein the latter mounted a huge comeback, winning three tight five-setters to win the night 6-5. Meat’s No. 3 player Deegan Kerslake was absent on the night, so Andrew Kremor and Chris Chen from Pennant 3 kindly substituted for him.

No. 2 Arnold had a productive night, winning his three singles matches starting with Kremor, whom he downed in three sets 11-5, 11-7, 11-5, while the usually tough-to-beat Tan only took one singles win for the night, defeating Rottela 11-9, 11-8, 11-4. Gujral then scraped it out with Fitzpatrick, taking her all the way to five sets before claiming victory, 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 10-12, 11-2. Likewise in the first doubles, Choices Flooring battled hard against an adamant Meats, winning the first set 11-6, Meats biting back in the second 13-11, Choices Flooring inching ahead in the third 12-10, but it wouldn’t be enough to slow the pace of Meats, who took out the last two sets comfortably, 11-1, 11-7.

With Meats now 3-1 ahead, Arnold regained some ground by defeating Tan, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8, but then captain Fitzpatrick was undone by substitute Kremor in another nail-biting five-setter, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8, 5-11, 10-12. Gujral then claimed the fifth rubber for his side by besting Rottela in three sets, 11-8, 12-10, 11-2. With the score now 5 rubbers to 2, it was now or never for Choices

Flooring as they went into the night’s second doubles. It was Fitzpatrick and Rottela versus Tan and Chen as the former took out the first set 11-9, Meats then gathering all their strength and winning the second and third 11-5, 11-3 but Choices Flooring would emerge victorious in the end, winning the last two sets 11-6, 11-8.

But the work was far from over as Fitzpatrick then engaged Tan in what was her fifth five-set match for the night. Tan cut deep in the early sets, winning 11-4, 11-8, but Fitzpatrick fought hard and found her way back to win the last three sets 11-6, 13-11, 11-5. Then unfortunately for Meats, Gujral had to forfeit his match against Arnold, bringing the game score to 5-5. The last match pitted Chen against Rottela, who lost both his previous singles matches but came through in this the decider, taking down Chen in five sets 11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-3.

Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 24 games to 21.

Sammy’s Slammers 7 Quentin Clark (3), James Jarvis (2), Ryan Hensgen (0) defeated Weightmans Packaging 4 Rasin Bhuiyan (2), Andrew Jones (1), Michael Hensgen (1).

Sammy’s Slammers, who are currently ranked fifth on the ladder, took out their first win for the 2026 winter comp, defeating fourth-placed Weightmans Packaging. This win will see the Sammys move up into Weightman’s place with 1 win and 2 losses, while Weightmans will move down into the bottom spot with 0 wins and 3 losses.

Jarvis took the first win of the evening, defeating Hensgen 11-7, 11-6, 11-6. Hensgen then took on Bhuiyan and after four sets ceded the victory, 6-11, 14-12, 4-11, 6-11. Clark, who obtained only one singles win in round 2 and was absent from round 3, won all three of his singles matches on this night, starting with Jones, 11-2, 11-3, 11-7. On to the first doubles match wherein Clark and teammate Jarvis continued to push forward, taking down Weightmans with a clean three-set win, 11-4, 11-3, 11-9, bringing the game score to 3-1.

The Sammys then encountered some resistance from their opponents in the second lot of singles with captain Bhuiyan defeating Jarvis in straight sets, 11-5, 13-11, 11-8. Clark however, stood firm and took out Hensgen in a lop-sided four-setter, 11-2, 11-5, 9-11, 11-0, while Jones and Ryan Hensgen battled it out, with the former claiming victory 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 11-4, tightening up the score 4-3. Going into the second doubles, Clark maintained his calmness and control and along with teammate Hensgen, secured the second doubles 11-8, 11-9, 11-9, putting them just one rubber away from victory at 5-3.

Onto the last three singles, wherein Bhuiyan had seemingly run out of puff as he went up against the fired-up Clark, who took the win in straight sets, 11-7, 11-3, 11-8, wrapping up the night at 6 rubbers to 3. Jarvis then went on to clash with Jones in the night’s only five-setter, taking the first set 13-11, Jones the next two 11-8, 13-11, but Jarvis brought it home in the end, winning 11-9, 11-8. And the last rubber saw brothers Michael and Ryan Hensgen play off, with Michael clenching a fourth rubber for Weightmans, 11-8, 13-11, 11-7.

Final score 7 rubbers to 4 and 23 rubbers to 15.

– Exposed Signage/Apparel 6 (Karly Leach, Chris Cen 2, Hayden Wilson 1) d Regional Taxation Services 5 (Andrew Kremor 2, Kym Sykes, Yen Hwak 1)

Exposed Signage/Apparel received a scare but were able to edge out the unlucky Regional Taxation Services. Exposed are the only undefeated team.

In a thrilling round 4 clash of the winter pennant three competition, Exposed Signage/Apparel held their nerve to claim a narrow 6 rubbers to 5 victory over Regional Taxation Services, finishing just one game ahead, 23–22.

It was a fiercely contested match from start to finish, and early in the night Exposed Signage/Apparel were under pressure trailing 1-3 and then 2-4. A big result in the first game of the night was crucial when Exposed number three Hayden Wilson grabbed a strong opening win defeating Curtis Crabtree in a five-set thriller 8-11 12-10 9-11 11-8 11-3 a strong finish by Hayden, continuing his good form from the last round.

Hayden’s teammate Chris Cen also played a key role for his team winning two singles including a five-set win over fill in from pennant four Kym Sykes. With his team trailing 2-4, Chris was able to survive 11-8 11-7 9-11 4-11 11-3 a good challenge by Kym after trailing 0-2. Earlier Kym had caused an upset when he accounted for the reliable Karly Leach in four sets.

The second doubles was crucial for the Exposed team after Karly and Chris had been outpointed in five sets by Andrew Kremor and fill in Yen Hwak, the scoreline an amazing 9-11 11- 11-7 18-20 11-8. In commanding fashion Karly and Hayden combined to defeat Andrew and Curtis in straight sets to level the match at 4 rubbers all.

Exposed skipper Karly then stood up for her team in a marathon match against opposing number one Andrew Kremor, after many long rallies and lengthy games Karly gave her team the lead 5-4 when she won 8-11 11-8 15-13 5-11 11-9 a thriller.

Leach’s teammate Chris Cen then grabbed the four points for his team when he defeated Curtis in straight sets.

With only one rubber and a single game separating the two sides, it was a true nail-biter and one of the closest matches of the season so far—highlighting just how competitive the winter pennant competition is shaping up to be.

– Cookes Pools & Spas 9 (Koby Grace 3, Peter Fitzpatrick, Yen Hwak 2) d Weightmans Packaging 2 (Nhat Dat 2)

Cookes Pools & Spas delivered a dominant performance in round 4.

Cookes Pools & Spas put on a commanding display in this match, cruising to a convincing 9 rubbers to 2 victory over Weightmans Packaging, finishing well ahead on games 31–12.

From the outset, Cookes looked in control, with Koby Grace setting the standard early through a series of strong wins. His consistency and attacking play proved difficult to counter, giving his team immediate momentum. For the second time this season Koby would go on and win three singles and he now is equal leader in the singles aggregate race along with Andrew Kremor and Karly Leach.

Teammate Peter Fitzpatrick was also impressive, contributing two singles wins and combining well in both doubles’ victories with Koby and Yen Hwak to keep the pressure firmly on Weightmans. Yen rounded out the trio with a solid performance also winning two singles. Yen went oh so close to winning three singles, his match against Nhat Dat was a thriller with Nhat taking the points 11-8 8-11 11-3 11-8 12-10.

To their credit, Weightmans Packaging continued to battle hard, with Nhat winning two singles, his match against Peter was outstanding, at 5-10 down in the final game it looked all over in Peter’s favour however Nhat would not concede and battled away to an amazing win, the score in the fifth 14-12 what a comeback by Nhat, team mate Steve Pongrac was unlucky against Yen losing in a lengthy five setter the fourth won by Steve 18-16 before Yen steadied in the fifth. Weightmans number three Matt Sires is improving each week however as a team Weightmans struggled to match the consistency and depth of their opponents Cookes Pools & Spas.

– Dunkley Scales 8 (Rodney Galvin 3, Maria Starikov 2, Raylee Waugh 1) d Weightmans Packaging 3 (Glenn Leeson 2, Jakob Grzan 1)

Weightman’s – Glenn Leeson, Jakob Grzan and Conner Burnett. Dunkley – Rodney Galvin, Maria Starikov and Andrew Jeffries (Fill in Raylee Waugh).

Dunkley came out firing in the first three Singles, with Maria and Rod putting together comprehensive wins.

Conner stood up and won first game, pushing Maria, but he was unable to keep up the pressure.

Jakob was under the same amount of pressure in his match against Rod, where he found it very difficult to get out of the starting barrier.

Glenn didn’t hold back against Raylee, knowing his team would need every win they could gather.  This left Weightman’s one Rubber behind with their fingers crossed for a win in the first Doubles.

Dunkley got the first break, in a lengthy first game of rallies, but Weightman’s pairing of Glenn and Jakob played the better in the following two, which looked to have them in the box seat. But you should never count your chickens, as the very determined Dunkley pair, of Rod and Maria were on a mission, a mission, a mission not to let this chance go. In an exciting five set match, which saw the last game end at 15, Dunkley took the chockies.

Glenn and Maria usually have a great clash and although it finished in three sets, games one and three were extremely close, going to 12/11 and 13/11. A much needed win by Glenn once again.

Rod was much too strong for Conner, finding his weak spots very early and adding the fourth Rubber for Dunkley.

With Weightman’s in desperate need of a win, the skirmish between their number 2 and Dunkley’s fill in Raylee, brought with it some amazing shots from both players. In the end, after four sets, Jakob marked up his first win, giving his team some breathing space.

The last Doubles saw Glenn and Conner facing Rod and Raylee and besides the second game, which was forced to 14/12, Dunkley had the upper hand, notching up the win. This put them only one win from the overall victory.

Glenn gave it his best shot against Rod in the match of the two number one’s, but unfortunately he couldn’t find that next level and Rob notched up his third individual win, to give Dunkley their 6th Rubber.

I think Jakob is still to find his 2025 confidence and his match with Maria didn’t have what he needed to capture the win. Maria popped another two wins under her belt, towards the aggregate.

Raylee and Conner both fought hard, with some very tricky shots coming from Conner, before Raylee was able to work up to a win, to bring up Dunkley’s 8th.

WINNER : Dunkley Scales  8  to Weightman’s Packaging  3.

GAMES :   Dunkley – 25  to Weightman’s 13.

– Tankard Dental 6 (Tom Gilmour, Costa Skiadis, Darren Bottams 2) d Mallee Meats 5 (Kym Sykes 3)

Tankard – Tom Gilmore, Darren Bottams , Jake Hines (Fill in Costa Skiadis), Mallee – Kym Skyes, Nathan Beard and Gary Leach (Fill in Jenny Leach).

A very quick start to this encounter, saw Tankard put two Rubbers on the board straight up.

Darren and Nathan had three very close games, with all going to Darren, after some hard fought, long rallies with all games going out to 11/9.

Tankards number one, Tom, was very nearly knocked off by fill in, Jen, each game producing great tussles. Tom took out the first game, but an unwavering attempt by Jen allowed her to take the next two. The fourth was once again very tight, but Tom found what he needed to take out the five setter.

Tom and Darren were up against Kym and Nathan in the first Doubles and although the match only went to three sets, with the middle game going to 12/10, Mallee were able to sneak a Rubber.

Tom brought the score back to level when he and Nathan collided. A good fight by Mallee’s number two, but not enough to stop Tankard’s Captain, who put his team back in front.

Darren was able to snatch a game from Kym, but wasn’t able to hold on to get a win for Tankard after a four set match. This now had both on three Rubbers.

It was the match of the two fill in’s up next, with Costa and Jen putting together a beauty. Four very tough games with the last going to 13/11 and falling to Costa, after he showed his patience and winning skills.

A very much needed win came from Kym and Jen, when they took out the win against Tom and Costa, in the second Doubles in three.

As mentioned in the opening to this write up, the meeting between these two teams was very tight and now it was all back to level once again.

Kym didn’t have much trouble getting the win over Tom, although their second set did go to 11/9. So was this the opening Mallee needed ?

Costa and Nathan would battle for this decision. The required Rubber needed by Mallee didn’t arrive, with Costa getting the better of Mallee’s number two player and putting the pressure onto the last players.

Jen was able to pocket a set against Darren, but he was much too good for her in the other three, playing a winner for his team and putting an end to the very close nights combat.

WINNER :  Tankard Dental  6   Mallee Meats  5.
