– Regional Taxation Services 6 (Jackson Tung, Rohan Reimers, Lee Leeson 2) d Cookes Pools & Spas 5 (Kate Carmichael 3)
Regional Taxation Services have been very consistent over the season only losing the one match however they will be tested over the next few weeks given that their reliable number two Rohan Reimers will be absent.
Victory came for RTS in round ten despite Cookes skipper Kate Carmichael winning three singles and taking part in both doubles’ victories. Carmichael avenged an earlier in the season loss to Jackson Tung, this round defeating Tung in straight sets in a match consisting of many fine rallies. She was able to maintain her one-win advantage in the singles aggregate race, Shannon Bowen also winning three singles.

For the ladder leaders Tung and Rohan Reimers won two singles however it was their number three Lee Leeson who was the star of the show, she also winning two singles.
In the first match of the night Leeson outplayed the consistent Paul Kealley and later with the scores at five rubbers all Leeson proved too consistent for Cookes number three Ash Morrison.
– Tankard Dental 8 (Shannon Bowen, Reece Kurrle 3) d Mallee Bearings 3 (Jamie Kealley, Liam Wood, Russell Walder 1)
Fourth placed Tankard Dental scored an important 8-3 win over fifth team Mallee Bearings enabling Tankards to open up a two-game break on their opponents on the Red Cliffs Club Shield ladder with six rounds to be played. The talented Arhuang Lau was a late withdrawal for the Bearings team as was number two Leon Brown who was replaced by Liam Wood. The form of Tankard pair Shannon Bowen and Reece Kurrle was ominous in this match with both defeating talented fill in Jamie Kealley who had an off night.

Bowen and Kurrle also combined to win the first doubles against Wood and fill in Gavin Carmichael in what proved to be a thriller with both combinations having match points. In the end it was the Tankard pair who won 11-7 8-11 11-3 7-11 16-14.
Bowen combined with Jason Gifkins to win the second doubles in what overall was a strong win and a valuable four points for Tankards who now have opened up a two-game break on their opponents.
For Tankards Shannon Bowen continued his good form winning three singles while teammate Reece Kurrle had a night out also winning three.
– Weightmans Packaging 7 (Wayne Carmichael, Mark Dorman 3) d Choices Flooring Mildura 4 (Jamie Kealley, Thanh Nguyen, Marcus Cimino 1)
With veteran Weightmans Packaging pair Wayne Carmichael and Mark Dorman winning three singles each, bottom team Choices Flooring Mildura were never in the race. At 1-5 down the Choices trio showed some spirit winning two matches in succession including the second doubles when Jamie Kealley and Marcus Cimino proved too good for Carmichael and Ed Hung in straight sets however any chance of victory was quickly snuffed out when Carmichael outpointed Jamie Kealley in straight sets and then when Mark Dorman defeated Thanh Nguyen the battle for the four points had been decided in Weightmans favour.

Weightmans Packaging would go on to win 7-4 and now move to one win from second place on the Red Cliffs Club Shield ladder. The competition is hotting up.

Mallee Meats 8 Michael Tan (3), Harry Gujral (3), Deegan Kerslake (0) defeated Choices Flooring Mildura 3 Therese Fitzpatrick (1), Josh Arnold (1), Sony Sefer (1).
Mallee Meats were virtually unstoppable in their battle against Choices Flooring in round 10, with captain Tan and No. 2 Gujral both taking out three singles wins and both the night’s doubles matches.
Gujral won the first match, defeating Arnold, 11-5, 11-8, 11-2. Fitzpatrick then got her side’s first rubber, downing Kerslake, 11-5, 11-4, 11-8, whilst teammate and substitute Sefer had a difficult time against Tan, eventually going down 11-9, 11-2, 11-7. In the first doubles, Choices Flooring battled hard but could only get themselves one set, as Meats took the win 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, stretching out their lead to 3-1.
Fitzpatrick might have been Choices Flooring’s best hope against Gujral, but these hopes were dashed as she, like Arnold, went down in just three sets 9-11, 5-11, 6-11. Arnold himself then went on the warpath against Tan, taking the first set 11-7, dropping the next two 8-11, 7-11, getting up again in the fourth 11-7, but Tan would have the last laugh in the fifth, winning 11-8. With Meats now just one game away from the win at 5-1, Sefer managed to halt their progress briefly with a win over Kerslake after a slow start, 3-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8. Choices then made an effort in the second doubles but it was too little too late as Meats closed in, 8-11, 11-6, 5-11, 8-11.

Although the night’s win was secured, Tan didn’t let up, ceding one set to Fitzpatrick in their match but cleaning up in the end, 5-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-4. Gujral then signed off from the night with his third win, besting Sefer, also in four sets 11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 11-7 and in the last, Arnold took his only win for the night, defeating Kerslake in straight sets, 11-3, 11-2, 11-5.
Final score 8 rubbers to 3 and 25 games to 15.
Sammy’s Slammers 8 Quentin Clark (3), James Jarvis (2), Ryan Hensgen (1) defeated Weightmans Packaging 3 Rasin Bhuiyan (2), Andrew Jones (0), Steve Parker (1).
Weightmans Packaging suffered another fairly one-sided loss in round 10 against an all fired up Sammy’s Slammers. The Sammy’s skipper Quentin Clark has had a rough start to the season, but he cleaned up this round, taking out three singles and both doubles matches.
Hensgen and Jones were up first, with the former struggling in the second set but getting it done, 11-5, 13-11, 11-6. Clark and Parker then battled it out, with Clark clenching the first set 11-9, Parker getting up in the second 11-5, and Clark taking out the third 11-6. It all came to a head in the fourth, with Parker barely walking away with the fourth set at 12-10, but he then felt the pressure in the fifth, going down to Clark 6-11. The score now at 2-0, Bhuiyan stepped in and pushed back against the Sammys, taking out Jarvis in straight sets 11-5, 11-6, 11-7, before joining Jones for the first doubles match. And the duo had a task on their hands as Meats fought them every step of the way. In the end, they would just lose it by a hair, 10-12, 5-11, 12-10, 10-12.

Clark then marked down his second win for the night, besting Jones in three, 13-11, 11-5, 11-5. Bhuiyan would continue to push
back against his advancing opponents with a win over Hensgen, 11-9, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7. Jarvis then got his team to the verge of victory by downing Parker in an efficient three set win, 12-10, 11-2, 11-8. Now it was 5-2 and the Sammys were moving in for the kill, but they would have to go through the duo of Bhuiyan and Parker first in the night’s second doubles. Weightmans opened fire in the first set, taking it 11-7, but the Sammys came prepared, and rattled off the next two sets, 11-6, 11-6. Weightmans pulled together and took another stab in the fourth, winning it 11-9, but couldn’t repeat that success in the fifth, eventually losing 7-11.
In the last block of singles, Clark took his third singles win against an obstinate Bhuiyan; the two scraping it out until the latter ran out of puff, 13-11, 8-11, 13-11, 8-11, 11-7. Jarvis then secured the eighth rubber in his match against Jones, 11-7, 11-9, 11-7, and there would be one more five-setter to be played out as Parker tussled with Hensgen in the last game and came out on top, 11-6, 10-12, 8-11, 11-8, 11-2.
Final score 8 rubbers to 3 and 27 games to 16.

– Cookes Pools & Spas 6 (Yen Hwak 2, Edi Re, Peter Fitzpatrick 1) d Regional Taxation Services 5 (Andrew Kremor 3, Curtis Crabtree 2)
Ladder leader Cookes Pools & Spas survived a fierce challenge from the fourth placed Regional Taxation Services to record a narrow 6 rubbers to 5 victory in an entertaining Round 10 of Pennant Three matches.
Before the match each team made a change with Edi Re coming into the Cookes team to replace the sick Koby Grace a key player for his team, while Regional Taxation Services number two Brenden Johnson was replaced by several players who were doubling up from their teams.
Despite losing the overall games count 24-19, Cookes did enough in the key moments to secure the match win.

Cookes number three Yen Hwak set the tone early for Cookes with a strong four-game victory over fill in Matt Sires, however RTS struck back with Cookes number one Peter Fitzpatrick defeated in a tough contest against Curtis Crabtree. This was an impressive four set win by Curtis 11-8 11-9 12-14 11-9 against his more fancied opponent. Regional Taxation Services the moved ahead with skipper Andrew Kremor defeating fill in Edi Re.
Cookes fought back winning the first doubles courtesy of Peter Fitzpatrick and Edi Re combining well to claim a four-game win over Andrew and fill in Steve Pongrac.
Peter Fitzpatrick then defeated fill in Chris Cen to give Cookes a 3-2 lead in this close contest.
Regional Taxation Services then bounced back winning the next two matches to take a 4-3 lead when skipper Andrew defeated Yen in straight sets while Curtis continued his impressive night by defeating Edi Re in straight sets.
The second doubles was now crucial to both teams and despite losing the first game to Andrew and Curtis the Cookes pair of Peter and Yen rallied to win the match in four sets and level the scores at four rubbers all.
The match was now up for grabs, could the fourth team Regional Taxation Services upset the top team. Andrew Kremor in the last block of three singles won his third match of the night accounting for Peter Fitzpatrick in straight sets. Then two exciting five set matches took place with Cookes Edi Re outlasting fill in Hayden Wilson in a marathon 11-7 7-11 12-10 5-11 11-7 an entertaining match.
With the four points now on the line Cookes Yen recovered from a one game to two deficit to outlast Curtis in five sets, Curtis finishing just short of winning three singles, a good effort by him.
Yen was a standout performer for Cookes, winning two singles rubbers and his doubles. While Peter Fitzpatrick won only one singles he also played an important role in his team’s victory with strong performances in both doubles wins, while team mate Edi Re contributed a crucial late singles victory in a marathon five-game encounter.
For Regional Taxation Services, Curtis Crabtree was impressive with two singles victories, while Andrew Kremor also played strongly throughout the night winning his three singles to ensure he still leads the singles aggregate.
Despite winning more individual games overall, RTS fell just short on rubbers in this very close contest. Cookes Pools & Spas eventually held their composure in the deciding matches to come away with an exciting 6-5 triumph and remain two wins clear of the second placed Exposed Signage/Apparel.
– Exposed Signage/Apparel 6 (Karly Leach, Chris Cen 2, Hayden Wilson 1) d Weightmans Packaging 5 (Sabrina Fitzpatrick, Matt Sires 2)
Exposed Signage and Apparel edged out Weightmans Packaging in a topsy turvy round 10 clash, claiming a narrow 6 rubbers to 5 victory in one of the closest contests of the season. With only two games separating the teams overall, the match went right down to the wire, finishing 23 games to 21.
In an unusual twist it was Weightmans Packaging who took control early leading 4-2 only for the Exposed team to rattle off four wins in succession to seal the deal. In this run of four wins number three Matt Sires continued his good recent form by defeating opposing number one Karly Leach in straight sets, an impressive win.
Weightmans number one Sabrina Fitzpatrick then fought off Chris Cen in a long five set match to win 11-8 11-13 5-11 13-11 11-7, she then combined with Steve Pongrac in the first doubles to win 12-10 7-11 7-11 11-8 11-7 to take a 3-1 lead.
The next block of three singles saw Karly defeat Steve in four sets while Weightmans Sabrina accounted for Hayden Wilson in four sets enabling her team to take a 4-2 lead. Exposed two Chris Cen then commenced the comeback by defeating the in-form Matt Sires in a further four setter. The recovery had commenced and the second doubles improved the situation further when Karly and Hayden combined in a thriller to defeat Steve and Matt 11-6 13-11 5-11 9-11 13-11, what a match.
The scores were now level at four rubbers all going into the last three singles and when the two captains met it was Karly Leach who proved too good for Sabrina Fitzpatrick in four sets, their usual dour struggle containing long rallies.
Chris Cen then for Exposed outlasted Steve Pongrac after Steve took the first game to win in four sets. From a 2-4 deficit Exposed Signage/Apparel has recovered to lead 6-4 and secure the four points.
In the last match Weightmans Matt Sires won his second singles for the second round in succession, his victim Hayden Wilson.

Karly Leach was solid for Exposed, winning two of her singles rubbers and playing an important role in the second doubles victory. Chris Cen also contributed strongly with two singles wins, while Hayden Wilson added an early singles win to help secure the overall result.
For Weightmans Packaging, Matt Sires was the standout performer with two singles victories, while Sabrina Fitzpatrick also won two singles, victory for them was oh so close.
In the end, Exposed Signage and Apparel held their nerve in the key moments to walk away with an exciting 6-5 triumph.

Mallee – Kym Sykes, Nathan Beard and Jenny Leach. Dunkley – Rod Galvin, Maria Starikov and Alma McKay.
With the return of Kym, Mallee got back their mo jo and made up for the lose last week. There were a few four set matches, but all in all, each match seemed to have a stronger player.
Jen was playing against Alma in the first lot of Singles and Alma is doing a good job, being thrown in the deep end, filling Andrews spot early in the season. She has made quite a bit of improvement over the past couple of weeks and I’m sure she’ll continue to grow her game. On this occasion, the rubber fell to Jen.
Maria pushed Kym to 13/11 in their second set, as she has found her Brick Wall defence once again, which brought with it, numerous Rallies. It wasn’t long though until Kym worked out how to end the match in three.

Nathan gave Rod a shock when they faced up, taking the first set very convincingly, before Rod took control, completing it in four sets and giving Dunkley their first Rubber.
The first Doubles also went to four sets, with Dunkley landing the opening game, with Rod and Maria bringing the pressure. The next three sets saw Kym and Jen combine well, producing some great defensive shots to bring home a fine win.
It was always going to be a tough match for Alma, when the opponent was Kym. Try as she may, Kym doesn’t make too many mistakes and it was an easy win to Mallee.
Jen gave it all she had, but Rod’s game was far to skilled for the P Plater. His years of experience were evident as he pulled in another win for his team.
This now saw the Rubbers sitting at 4 to 2, Mallee’s way, with Nathan and Maria to battle it out. These two both play defensively and usually this amounts to a five set rally filled match. But in this skirmish it was Maria who held the cards and halted play at three sets.
Kym and Nathan were then up against Rod and Alma, after a good contest in the first set, saw both pairs not wanting to give an inch. But the following two, were definitely dominated by Mallee, pocketing a fifth Rubber.
It was the two Captains who now had the pressure on their shoulder. Kym only needed this win to get the four points and Rod had to find a way to stop him, or the night was over for Dunkley.
Even though the scores may not show it, as the match was over in three sets, the skills of both were on display. Kym did well for Mallee, giving them the Rubber they needed.
Alma made a good fist of her game with Nathan, as he is pretty tricky at times. Nathan got his first win and took Mallee to seven Rubbers.
The last match of the night was between Jen and Maria, with Jen finding out the hard way, forehand smashes won’t stop the Brick Wall. Maria had a good night, with razor sharp reflexes, leaving Jen realizing she has a long way to go with her Table Tennis.

– Tankard Dental 7 (Darren Bottams 3, Tom Gilmour 2, Jake Hines 1) d Weightmans Packaging 4 (Jakob Grzan 2, Lewis Hussey 1)
Weightman’s – Glenn Leeson (Fill in – Lewis Hussey), Jakob Grzan and Conner Burnett (Fill in – Alma McKay and Jenny Leach). Tankard – Tom Gilmour, Darren Bottams and Jake Hines.
Jake stood up to Jakob in the opening match, with Takard’s number three struggling to get on top of his opposition, all be it, he did catch Jakob out on a few occasions, before the Rubber landed with Weightman’s.
Darren is becoming a force to reckon with in his team, coming out with some unbeatable shots and this encounter with Lewis seemed to be sliding very quickly. Darren may have been in charge of most of the match, but Lewis found a way to pull in the third set, just to show he had some shot up his sleeve too. Tankard marked this one up though.
Tom’s game against Alma was over in a flash, with Weightman’s fill in finding it very difficult to grab a point.
The combination of Lewis and Jakob, against Tom and Jake, turned out to be a winner for Weightman’s, with a clean sweep, bringing the scores back to level.
Jake did put up a great fight when he had to clash with Lewis, with his extreme spin causing Lewis some trouble, with the three sets falling to Lewis.
The next match was a great watch, with Jakob catching Tom off guard in the first two sets, before Tankards Captain reeled him back in with ease in the next two. Jakob fine tuned the focus button and pencilled in a fantastic win for his team.
Jen was then called in to try and decipher Darrens game. With some coaching their belts from the previous Sunday it was going to be interesting to see who got the most from the words of wisdom. It didn’t take long to work that one out, with Darren taking the Rubber and letting Jen know, she had a lot more to learn.
Weightman’s still held a one Rubber lead, with the final Doubles to be played, which saw Lewis and Alma being beaten by Tom and Darren, but they weren’t disgraced, with Lewis serving up some beauties.

Lewis followed on in the next match, giving Tom a run for his money, but not enough to take a set, with Tom notching up a much needed Rubber for Tankard.
This match was the final straw for Weightman’s, as they required a win here, or their fight would be over. Alma and Jake both had some weight on their shoulder and although the win didn’t go her way, it was Alma’s best game of the night, constructing some great points and pushing making Jake work hard for his three sets win. This Rubber gave Tankard the victory on the night.
The final match on the night was between Jakob and Darren, who had both been producing excellent wins over the past few weeks. The two numbers two’s wrestled it out for three sets, with Darren’s previous experience being the telling points in adding another Rubber to Tankard’s win. This also gave Darren his third Singles win, moving him up the aggregate ladder.
