He was a late starter to this competition due to a knee injury and is now the form player of the pennant only losing one match in twenty-four played.
– Regional Taxation Services 6 (Jackson Tung 2, Reece Kurrle, Lee Leeson 1) d Weightmans Packaging 5 (Wayne Carmichael 3, Mark Dorman 1)
Regional Taxation Services skipper Jackson Tung played an important role in the victory winning two singles and looked to be on his way to three when he took a two games to one lead over Wayne Carmichael and then led 8-5 in the fourth however not for the first time Carmichael was able to lift and win six of the last seven points in the fourth before a strong finish in the fifth, Carmichael winning 11-6 9-11 10-12 11-9 11-4 in a top class contest.
The first doubles was crucial when Tung combined with fill in Paul Kealley to defeat the more fancied pair of Wayne Carmichael and Mark Dorman in four sets. Regional Taxation Services took a 4-2 lead early in the match before Weightmans struck back to win four of the next five rubbers to lead 5-4. For the second week in succession RTS number three Lee Leeson won when the match stood at five rubbers all. Her opponent this time weas Ed Hung,

Leeson won the first two games narrowly and looked in control however Hung fought back to win the third and fourth. Team mates then witnessed several long rallies before Leeson proved too consistent going on to win 11-9 11-9 11-13 3-11 11-6, a great win under pressure. Regional Taxation Services now enjoy a win loss ratio 9-1 an outstanding record in a close competition.
– Tankard Dental 7 (Reece Kurrle 3, Shannon Bowen 2, Jason Gifkins 1) d Cookes Pools & Spas 4 (Kate Carmichael 2, Paul Kealley 1)
Fourth placed Tankard Dental kept their chances alive of grabbing the double chance by defeating second placed Cookes Pools & Spas 7-4. Tankards grabbed the ascendancy early taking a 5-2 lead and in particular the crucial win here was the five set defeat of Cookes number one Kate Carmichael by Reece Kuurle who was outstanding winning three singles for the second round in succession. Carmichael grabbed two of the first three games against Kurrle however in a power hitting display he was able to regroup and dominate the fourth and fifth against the aggregate leader to win 8-11 11-4 8-11 11-4 11-5.
With the score in Tankards favour at 5-4 two five setters decided the four points, Kurrle recorded another entertaining five set win, this time against Paul Keally and in the final match of the night Tankard number three Jason Gifkins fended off Ash Morrison in a tight five setter 11-8 11-9 8-11 8-11 11-9.

An even team performance by Tankards featured Kurrle winning three singles while Shannon Bowen and Jason Gikins won two and one respectively.
– Mallee Bearings 10 (Arhuang (Wong) Lau, Russell Walder 3, Leon Brown 2) d Choices Flooring Mildura 1 (Thanh Nguyen 1)
The remaining match featured a dominant display by fifth placed Mallee Bearings who defeated Choices Flooring Mildura 10-1. With this victory the Bearings trio have remained two wins from the top four with five rounds to play.
For the victors Arhuang Lau and Leon Brown won three and two singles respectively. The match between Lau and opposing number one Jamie Kealley was a highlight going to five sets with Lau narrowly winning 11-8 8-11 11-9 11-13 11-9 a thriller. Lau’s teammate Leon Brown showed some of his best form for the season as he later defeated the unlucky Kealley in a further five set close tussle.
Whilst Lau and Brown had played well it was the form of number three Russell Walder which raised eyebrows as he won three singles in an outstanding round by him which also included a doubles victory partnering Lau.

Walder’s form had STTA historians scurrying through the record books as there re doubts if a number three in Red Cliffs Club shield matches has ever won three singles previously. Walder has a very steady game with crafty angles and his four set singles victory in the first game of the night over Choices number one Kealley was an excellent win particularly after losing the first game 4-11. Well played Russell.

Choices Flooring Mildura 9 Therese Fitzpatrick (2), Josh Arnold (2), Shiva Rottela (3) defeated Weightmans Packaging 2 Rasin Bhuiyan (2), David Sergi (0).
Weightmans took quite a beating in round 11, going down 9-2 to Choices Flooring. With Weightmans’ No. 2 and No. 3 players absent,

substitute David Sergi was in for a long night, as he subbed in for both of them.
Choices Flooring got off to a flying start, taking out the night’s first four rubbers. First, Arnold got a win in his first matchup with Sergi, 11-5, 11-6, 11-5, then Rottela took down captain Bhuiyan in four sets, 11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 11-6. Sergi then went up against Fitzpatrick and put up a good fight, taking the second set but ultimately going down 10-12, 12-10, 3-11, 6-11. In the first doubles, Choices Flooring took the first set, 11-5, then Weightmans pushed back, taking the next two 11-9, 11-8. It could have gone either way in the fourth set with Choices Flooring just nabbing it 12-10, and then sealing the deal in the last, 11-7.
At 4-0 down, Weightmans had a lot of work to do. Bhuiyan got his first win on the board by defeating Arnold, 11-4, 12-10, 11-5, while Sergi went down to Fitzpatrick in their second match, 5-11, 4-11, 7-11. With Choices Flooring now 5-1 ahead, Sergi then made a concerted effort to take down Rottela. He took the first 15-13, lost the second 10-12, but got up again in the third 11-6. It looked like he might have this one in the bag, but Rottela wouldn’t budge, taking out the fourth and fifth sets 11-6, 11-3; ending the night at 6-1. Choices then won the second doubles in straight sets, 11-7,11-7, 11-8, right before Bhuiyan cleaned up Fitzpatrick easily enough, 11-4, 11-7, 11-2. Sergi then went up against Arnold for the second time, this time nabbing the third set but losing, 5-11, 5-11, 12-10, 2-11, and then taking on Rottela again in the final rubber, with Rottela taking the win in straight sets, 15-13, 11-7, 12-10.
Final score 9 rubbers to 2 and 27 games to 13.
Sammy’s Slammers 6 Quentin Clark (2), James Jarvis (1), Deegan Kerslake (2) defeated Pinnacle Packers 5 Duy Truong (3), Peter Midgley (1), Steve Parker (0).
The Sammys rocked the boat in their match against second-placed Pinnacle Packers, taking out a close 6-5 victory which will put the two sides even with four wins apiece.

Jarvis drew first blood, defeating Parker 11-6, 11-4, 11-9. Truong then levelled it 1-1 by besting Kerslake 11-6, 11-3, 11-5, and then skipper Clark took on Midgley, coming out on top again in three sets, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8. Clark and Jarvis then teamed up for the first doubles wherein they lost the first set 8-11, but recovered well and fought their way back, winning 13-11, 11-8, 11-9, getting themselves halfway home at 3-1.
Jarvis then tried his hardest against Truong but couldn’t pull it off, going down 3-11, 10-12, 10-12. Clark took out another three-set win over Parker 11-7, 11-4, 11-4, while teammate Kerslake and Midgley got right into it. Kerslake looked beaten early on, losing the first and second sets 5-11, 2-11, but then he pulled a complete 360 which no doubt left Midgley very frustrated, as the young gun took the win 11-8, 11-9, 11-9. With the score now 5-2, the Sammys were feeling confident, but Packers weren’t dead yet. In the second doubles they took the win after dropping the first set, 7-11, 11-8, 14-12, 11-6, and then the two captains faced off, with Truong taking the win in four 11-8, 11-9, 10-12, 11-9. The score now sitting at 5-4, Midgley scraped it out with Jarvis, with the latter winning the first set, 11-7, and then Midgley coming down hard in the next two, 11-6, 11-6. Jarvis then took out the fourth 11-7, but went to pieces in the fifth, losing 4-11. 5 rubbers to 5 and it was time for a decider, with Parker facing off against Kerslake. Kerslake won the first 11-7, then Parker grabbed the second 11-6. The game came to its apex in the third with Kerslake just clenching it 12-10 and then securing the victory for his side in the fifth, 11-6.
Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 22 games to 19.

Things were a little out of whack to start, with a late arrival from Nathan. With this the matches were out of order, but not without some thrilling matches.
The three set win from the tussle between Jake and Jen was a little one sided. Jake has been making some slow improvements with his shots, with Jen also pushing to improve her game. In the end it was a comfortable win for Mallee.
Tom was then to face his nemesis, in Kym, with both battling it out at the top of the Aggregate. I’m sure Tom would have had in mind to accumulate a set or two, or even possibly sneak a win, but his normal game was brought to a sudden halt, with Kym reading the play perfectly and drawing things to a close very quickly.
Tom and Darren made the first couple of sets of Doubles very difficult for Kym and Jen, but with determination and focus Mallee’s pair pulled in the next three to snatch the Rubber.
With the arrival of Nathan, he had a bit of catching up to do, but the Doubles action took a bit out of Darren, so Jake stepped in to be the first to face up to Nathan. He did put up a better fight in this match, but Nathan seemed to have all the answers, which notched up Mallee’s fourth Rubber.
With Darren now rested, Nathan had another Match to contend with, but this one would cause him a few more challenges. Darren has jumped ahead with his game over the past couple of weeks, with some impressive moves. Nathan didn’t make it easy for him though pushing it out to 12 in the second set, before Darren closed the door in three sets, giving his team their first Rubber.
Kym has been the number one in Pennant four over the season thus far, but Darren is starting to find his groove and become a danger and this was evident in this ding dong battle. Darren produced some excellent shots to pencil in the first set, at 11/8, with the second set a stress free 3 /11 win to Kym. But it was the third set which had many in the stands waiting with baited breath to see who would take this one. It was rallies, slick serves and table edges, right through the 20/18 nail biting set, which fell to Mallee’s Captain. Rallies continued through the fourth, which finally saw Kym acquire Mallee’s fifth Rubber.
Tom usually wrangles a win when he comes up against Jen, but Mallee’s number three reeled in the first set and put Tankard’s Captain under pressure in the next two, but with credit to Tom, he popped on the blinkers, focusing and finishing it off with a four set win to Tankard. This gave a second Rubber to Tankard, but this meant they must with all of the remaining matches.
The last Doubles would either be victory for Mallee or the start of a must win run for Tankard, with Tom and Jake contesting Kym and Nathan. All were engaged in the fight to win and both teams gave their best, with Mallee bringing home a confident win to top take the overall nights win.
Jake had little hope of toppling Kym in their match, not to say he didn’t give it his best. A fantastic night once again for Kym, adding another 3 points to his singles wins.
Tom started off slowly, losing the first, but pounced in the last three sets, to win in the match against Nathan.

Jen forced the opening set to 12 in the bout with Darren, but he didn’t take long to work out the quickest way around her game and bring a finish to the night in a three set win to Tankard.
WINNER : Mallee Meats 7 to Tankard Dental 4.

– Weightmans Packaging 7 (Jakob Grzan 2, Darren Bottams, Conner Burnett 1) d Dunkley Scales 4 (Rodney Galvin 2, Maria Starikov 1)
Weightman’s – Glenn Leeson (Fill in – Darren Bottoms and Tom Gilmour), Jakob Grzan and Conner Burnett. Dunkley – Rod Galvin, Maria Starikov and Andrew Jeffries (Fill in – Alma McKay).
This meeting between Weightman’s and Dunkley generated a few amazing matches.
Conner came up against Maria in the opening battle, which saw Maria taking control. Conner snuck in some excellent slams, but as Maria does, she stacked those bricks, slapped on the mortar and that put an end to Conners chances. First Rubber to Dunkley.
Jakob has turned his game up to high lately and this left Alma with little hope of sneaking too many points. There’s rumors Jakob now has a Table Tennis Table at home, so it looking like this could account for a lot of the improvement in his skill level.
Rod is usually quite a challenge, but this last match in the first batch of Singles saw him fighting out a tough four setter against Tom, who seemed to find a weakness and notch up a second Rubber for Weightman’s.
All was ready for a mighty challenge, in the first Doubles, with Jakob and Darren, a very tricky pairing, were about to try and break through Rod and Maria’s defense. The first set did see Weightman’s grab the win, but the following two sets saw the points see sawing from one end of the Table to the other. With one ending at 12 and the next 14, both in Dunkley’s favor. The fourth set saw Rod and Maria pulling in the win.

The next clash was between Jakob and Maria and was the Match of the night. If you like to watch Rallies, then this was a beauty, with some exceptional placement from both players forcing this contest to five sets. With Maria never easy to get past, Jakob used his patience and brought his forehand into play at the right time, rewarding him with a hard fought win.
This put Weightman’s one up, with their number three, Conner, to face Dunkley’s number one, Rod. Conner did show look dangerous at times, but Rod was still able to halts the match after three, to level the scores again.
Tom was to play against his friend Alma, but wasn’t about to hold back and marked up an easy win for Weightman’s.
The last Doubles saw Jakob being involved in three wins, in a solid confrontation with Jakob and Conner versing Rod and Alma. With Weightman’s grabbing the first set, Dunkley fought back to take the next, but it wasn’t enough to fend off the two youngsters.
Weightman’s had a slight advantage now, only needing one more win and with Jakob fully focused, would he be able to get over the experience of Rod.
Rod was under pressure in the first, when Jakob pushed it out to 12, but a very calm and disciplined Rod executed a much needed win for his team.
Darren had the shots to disarm Maria in a precise win for Weightman’s, to hand them the nights victory.
Conner didn’t leave Alma with many opportunities to sneak a win, maximizing the percentage for his team, adding another Rubber.
WINNER : Weightman’s Packaging 7 to Dunkley Scales 4.
