Maccas Players of the round: Paul Kealley

– Choices Flooring Mildura 6 (Jackson Tung 2, Liam Wood, Ashley Morrison 1) d Tankard Dental 5 (Reece Kurrle 3, Thanh Nguyen 2)
This victory came despite Tankard pair Reece Kurrle and Thahn Nguyen winning three and two singles respectively.

Kurrle was in top form and his victories included a five set defeat of aggregate leader Jackson Tung who had not lost a match since way back in round one.
Coincidentally his only other loss had come at the hands of Kurrle, this was an entertaining display from both players. Kurrle took the ascendancy early winning the first two games before Tung began a fightback to level the match. Many fast rallies took place along with some great defence from both players. Tung had turned the match around and took a 9-5 lead in the fifth to almost finish off Kurrle however it was not to be and in a stunning comeback Kurrle amazingly took the match 11-4 13-11 8-11 5-11 13-11, what a finish.
Despite this loss Tung did win two other singles and he participated in both doubles victories along with team mates Liam Wood and Ash Morrison. Victory came with a scoreline of 6-5 in favour of Choices Flooring.
– Cookes Pools & Spas 7 (Reece Kurrle 3, Russell Walder, Jason Gifkins 1) d Weightmans Packaging 4 (Jamie Kealley, Rohan Reimers 2)
Despite Arhaung Lau being a late withdrawal from Cookes Pools and Spas his team was able to take the points against Weightmans Packaging 7-4. Weightmans were coming in to this match after a big win last round which had taken them to second on the ladder. Their lack of success in the doubles was costly and their opponents have moved to second on the ladder with Weightmans slipping to third.
The first doubles was a hard fought five set struggle with Cookes sub Reece Kurrle partnering up with Russell Walder against Jamie Kealley and Rohan Reimers. In a blazing start Kealley and Reimers allowed their opponents only two points. Games then went either way and by the fifth Kurrle and Walder had worked their opponents out despite the slow start going on to win 2-11 11-7 6-11 12-10 11-6, a top class match.
In the washup Lau’ s substitutes Kurrle and Jackson Tung won three singles while team mates Walder

and Jason Gifkins won an important singles each. For Weightmans Jamie Kealley and Rohan Reimers continued their consistent season winning two singles each.
– Regional Taxation Services 8 (Mark Dorman, Paul Kealley 3, Quentin Clark 1) d Mallee Bearings 3 (Shannon Bowen, Tom Morrison 1)
The remaining match saw the Regional Taxation Services trio of Mark Dorman, Paul Kealley and Quentin Clark inflict a heavy defeat on Mallee Bearings of 8-3. RTS were on the rebound after being on the receiving end of a bad defeat of their own last round.
Both Dorman and Kealley were at their best winning three singles each and both defeating winter premiership player Shannon Bowen who came in to the Mallee Bearings to replace Kate Carmichael who was in Brisbane representing Victoria at the National Veterans Championships.

Kealley defeated Bowen in straight sets in an impressive win while Dorman fought back from a 0-2 deficit to win in five sets.
RTS number three Quentin Clark played his part in the victory by defeating Lee Leeson in their singles encounter. With this solid victory RTS have moved to fourth on the ladder by al narrow percentage.

Maccas Players of the round: Ryan Hensgen

Mallee Meats 6 Harry Gujral (2), Therese Fitzpatrick (3), Peter Fitzpatrick (0) defeated Weightmans Packaging 5 Rasin (2), Michael Tan (1), Steve Parker (1).

No. 3 Therese Fitzpatrick continues to be Mallee Meats’ secret weapon in this summer season. In round 6, she won her three singles matches, which included a five-set brawl against captain Rasin Bhuyian.
In the opening rubber, Tan had his work cut out for him in his match against Peter Fitzpatrick, going all the way to five sets with Tan taking the win 11-13, 11-9, 11-4, 7-11, 11-3. Gujral then took out Parker swiftly 11-6, 11-9, 13-11, whilst teammate Therese Fitzpatrick went into her match against Bhuiyan determined to win. She dropped the first set 7-11, recovered in the second 11-6, but Bhuiyan then got ahead in the third 11-6. They came to a head in the fourth, Fitzpatrick taking the win 12-10 and then finishing Bhuiyan off in the fifth 11-9. But the work didn’t stop for Fitzpatrick as she paired up with Gujral for the night’s first doubles match. Weightmans pair Bhuiyan and Tan took the first set 12-10, then Meats won the second set also 12-10. Weightmans took the third 11-8 and looked poised to win, but Meats still had some fight left in them and they came back to win 11-8, 11-8.

The next rubber was another five-setter, this time between Gujral and Tan with the former taking the win 11-8, 8-11, 3-11, 11-6, 11-5. Meats were now 4-1 ahead but Weightmans still had a resilient captain in Bhuiyan who took down Peter Fitzpatrick in straight sets 11-9, 13-11, 11-2. Therese Fitzpatrick then got her team their fifth rubber, besting Parker in four 4-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-9. The second doubles was another five-set scrap, only this time Weightmans prevailed over Meats 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9.
With the score now 5-3, it was time for Gujral and Bhuiyan to face off. The first set saw the two go all out, resulting in a whopping 17-15 win for Bhuiyan. Gujral then won the second set 11-7, but he came unstuck in the final two, losing 6-11, 7-11. Therese Fitzpatrick then became embroiled in her second five-set match of the night, this time defeating Tan 6-11, 11-6, 11-6, 10-12, 11-7, and with this win secured the victory 6-4. In the final rubber, Peter Fitzpatrick went down against Parker after nabbing the first set 11-9, 9-11, 4-11, 6-11.
Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 24 games to 24.
Pinnacle Packers 6 Josh Arnold (2), James Jarvis (2), Ryan Hensgen (1) defeated Cookes Pools & Spas 5 Duy Truong (3), David Sergi (1), Deegan Kerslake (0).
Packers had a slight edge over Cookes in round 5, taking the win 6-5. Cookes skipper Duy Truong did his part by winning three singles and a doubles but his two teammates couldn’t help him out, winning only one singles between them.
The first match was the only five-set match of the night, which pitted Hensgen against Sergi. Sergi got away from his opponent early, winning the first two sets 11-4, 11-4. Hensgen regrouped and snatched the third and fourth 11-7, 11-7, but Sergi regained control and won the fifth 11-4. Kerslake then went up against Arnold but couldn’t topple him, losing in straight sets 9-11, 4-11, 0-11. Truong then bested Jarvis 11-7, 11-9, 11-6, and then teamed up with Sergi for the first doubles match, taking down the Packers duo of Arnold and Jarvis in three sets 11-9, 12-10, 11-5.
Cookes had the lead at 3-1, but Arnold was about to kick off the comeback. He defeated Sergi 11-9, 11-7, 11-5, while Truong got his second singles win besting Hensgen 11-2, 11-6, 11-4. Jarvis then got Packers to 3 rubbers to 4 after a tough battle against Kerslake. He took the first two sets 11-4, 11-8, Kerslake fired back by winning the third 11-8, but Jarvis prevailed in the fifth 11-4. If Cookes could get the second doubles then they would be almost at the finish line. They went in hard against Packers, winning the first 11-7, but couldn’t hold off the attack from their opponents who won the next three sets 11-9, 11-6, 13-11, levelling the score 4-4.
Cookes got their fifth rubber with Truong defeating Arnold in straight sets, 12-10, 14-12, 11-8. It was now down to either Sergi or Kerslake to get them over the line. Jarvis sorted Sergi out confidently, winning 11-8, 11-8, 11-7, as Kerslake stepped up to take on Hensgen in the tiebreaker.

Hensgen drew first blood, taking the first set 11-7, Kerslake just won the second 12-10, and then the two went head-to-head in the third with Hensgen taking it by a hair, 14-12. Kerslake continued to fight hard but went down in the fifth 13-11, granting Cookes the victory.
Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 20 games to 18.

Maccas Players of the round: Sabrina Fitzpatrick

– Mallee Meats 6 (Sabrina Fitzpatrick 3, Brenden Johnson, Hayden Wilson 1) d Regional Taxation Services 5 (Karly Leach 2, Leo Parker, Cooper Kalms 1)
This was second (RTS) versus fourth placed Mallee Meats who despite being on the bottom rung were coming off a good win.
The Mallee Meats trio of Sabrina Fitzpatrick, Brenden Johnson and Hayden Wilson were able to start in a positive manner and RTS were always playing catch up.
The first match featured Brenden and Cooper Kalms who has been in good form of late. Brenden proved too steady in the first game, Cooper lifted in the second but went down by the narrowest of margins. Cooper took over in the third and raced through this game in commanding style. The comeback was short lived as Brenden composed himself with a couple of his trade mark booming forehands to go on and win 11-7 13-11 1-11 11-6.
The reliable Karly Leach then was able to get her team on the board and level at one rubber all, her victim Hayden Wilson in straight sets. Skipper Sabrina then swept through the next match against Leo Parker to give her team a 2-1 lead going in to the first doubles.
Sabrina then with Brenden doubling up on another table elevated Hayden to the first doubles and together they matched up against Karly and Leo and scored an excellent straight sets win, 11-8 11-7 11-9, a solid victory which took Mallee Meats to a 3-1 lead.
Karly then knowing the match was slipping away proved too steady for Brenden winning in four sets while opposing skipper Sabrina then kept a determined Cooper at bay. The first was close however Sabrina proved too steady, she broke away to take the second more comfortably while Cooper took the third narrowly in fine style. The fourth was close as Cooper attempted to push the match to a fifth however Sabrina was able to display her experience and win 11-8 11-5 9-11 12-10. The score now in Mallee Meats favour 4-2.
Hayden then took to the table against Leo and this was an exciting match between the two youngsters. They both concentrate well and think through their game. Leo was able to take the first game before Hayden struck back to win the next two games, the fourth was a real struggle as Leo took the match to a fifth by the narrowest of margins. In the fifth it was Hayden with a mix of good defence and the occasional attacking shot who was able to claim the points 9-11 11-5 11-7 13-15 11-6 and now Mallee Meats took a commanding 5-2 lead.
Karly and Cooper then quickly reduced the deficit by accounting for Brenden and Hayden in straight sets. This set up a big match as Karly needed success against Sabrina to keep her team alive, over time these two have fought out many lengthy five setters and this was to prove the deja vu moment.
Karly started on a positive note winning the first game, Sabrina the second while Karly wrestled away the third narrowly to take a 2-1 lead.

Knowing her team held the ascendancy Sabrina took on the responsibility of gaining the four points proving very solid in both the fourth and fifth and recovering to win 6-11 11-9 9-11 11-6 11-7.
This was a great fight back against a tough opponent in Karly and a very valuable four points for her team allowing Mallee Meats to jump to third on the ladder only one win from top position.
The RTS pair of Leo Parker and Cooper Kalms then improved the final scoreline by winning their two singles matches. Leo and Brenden played out an amazing five setter after Brenden had won the first two games. The third was intense and went on and on before Leo stayed alive winning narrowly. The fourth and fifth were very close and in the end Leo prevailed 7-11 5-11 14-12 11-8 15-13, an amazing match!
In their short time playing against each other these two have played several five set marathons.
In the final match of the night Cooper Kalms proved too steady for Hayden Wilson winning straight sets. Despite the loss Hayden’s team Mallee Meats had won 6-5 in what had been a solid team effort.
Winner : Mallee Meats 6 defeated Regional Taxation Services 5
Games : 21 to 21
– Sammy’s Slammers 6 (Sam Campbell 3, Brenden Johnson 2, Raj Gujral 1) d Exposed Signage Apparel 5 (Nick Kiapekos 2, Curtis Crabtree 1)
This was a real team effort by Sammy’s Slammers to win 6-5 over their opponents Exposed Signage and Apparel. The Slammers were without without the absent Koby Grace and the injured Leanne Wilson who were replaced by Brenden Johnson and Raj Gujral.
Sammy’s came out slamming and won the first three singles to take control. The busy Brenden Johnson who was doubling up played Curtis Crabtree first up and raced to a two nil lead before Curtis struck back to level the match. Brenden then lifted in the fifth and maintained control to win 12-10 11-7 7-11 9-11 11-7.
This was followed by an excellent win by Raj in four sets over Steve Pongrac, Skipper Sam Campbell then took her team to a 3-0 lead with a straight sets victory over Nick Kiapekos.
The Exposed trio needed a win and they achieved this in the first doubles when Steve and Nick were able to remain steady and defeat Sam and Brenden in a long five set battle winning 8-11 11-7 11-7 11-13 11-3, a strong finish.
This proved only to be a minor hiccup for the Slammers as they then rattled off two wins in succession. Fill in Brenden in an impressive display defeated Steve in three sets. Skipper Sam then dismissed Curtis in the first set. Curtis struck back but just fell short in the second before Sam took control to win the third. The Slammers were now up 5 – 1 and well in command.
Knowing the match was slipping Nick was desperate against Raj despite slipping to a 1-2 deficit before the game swung in a great fightback by Nick who went on to win 11-6 10-12 9-11 11-1 11-5, the score now 2-5.
Courtesy of Nick and Curtis in the second doubles the Exposed team remained alive when they defeated Sam and Raj 11-13 11-8 11-7 11-7. The score now 5-3 in favour of the Slammers.
Sam Campbell then came out confidently against opposing skipper Steve and won in three sets to claim the valuable four points. The Slammers have again claimed the outright lead at the head of the ladder.
Exposed number two Nick then played fillin Brenden and despite going down 9-11 in the first Nick was able to narrowly win the second and eventually go on to a good win in four sets.
Every match is important for percentage and even though the four points were gone Curtis proved too consistent for Raj in the singles to win in straight sets to reduce the deficit to 5-6.

In an even team performance skipper Sam won three singles and continues to lead the singles aggregate while Brenden and Raj won two and one respectively. Victory came despite not winning a doubles.

PENNANT FOUR:
This game called Table Tennis, which we love, or love to hate at times, is so contagious. It can build you up to feel invincible and then pull the rug from under you, leaving you wondering how you missed the Table, or how your opponent got that shot back. But one things for sure, you can meet some beautiful people, give yourself a great workout and keep your Brain active (although I do wonder about that one sometimes).
Round six and Pennant four’s Ladder see’s Dunkley Scales on top, with 5 wins, Mallee Meats close behind on 4, Weightman’s Packaging one back on 3 and Tankard Dental still awaiting a win.

The two top Teams played off in this round, with some surprise wins coming to light.
Maccas Players of the round: Liam Milton

– Mallee Meats 7 (Yen Hwak 3, Nathan Beard 2) d Dunkley Scales 4 (Jenny Leach 2, Glenn Leeson 1)
Dunkley – Glenn Leeson, Jen Leach and Jakob Grzan. Mallee – Yen Hwak, Nathan Beard and Connor Burnett.
Jakob has been producing some amazing wins over the past few rounds, showing his ability to learn quickly. Nathan always makes it difficult to get through his defensive barrier. So when these two were called to play, it could have been a long five setter. But Jakob was a little flat and was unable to keep up with Nathan’s game on this occasion, giving Mallee the first Rubber. (12/10, 11/6, 11/9).
Connor gave Glenn a work out in their encounter, pushing him to 12 in the first two sets, before Glenn closed it out in three. (12/ 10, 12/10, 11/5).
Jen faced Mallee’s number one, Yen in a very close skirmish. Jen shocked herself, with a positive win in the first set and forcing Yen to 13 in the third. Mallee’s Captain, has a lightening fast return, of which he used very well, to take the win, in four sets. (4/11, 11/8, 13/11, 11/8).
The first Doubles brought the scores back to even, when Glenn and Jen took on Yen and Nathan. It was three sets of seven, to which fell in favor of Dunkley, but not before some good long battles. (11/7, 11/7, 11/7).
Glenn and Nathan fought it out for five sets, with Glenn slightly worse for wear, fighting a cold. The match teetered from one to the other, with Nathan notching up his second win and adding another Rubber for Mallee. (11/5, 3/11, 11/8, 2/11, 13/11).

Yen manufactured another win, this time against Dunkley’s number three. Although it was over in three, Jakob pushed Mallee’s number one to 13, in the middle game. (11/7, 13/11, 11/3).
Jen and Connor had a terrific match, with each game very even. Connor was using his slams extremely well, but Jen somehow found a way around him to clinch the Rubber and bring Dunkley back to just one down. (11/9, 6/11, 11/9, 8/11, 11/7).
Dunkley needed desperately to win the last Doubles, with Glenn and Jakob fighting it out against Yen and Connor. It was to be a very tight clash, which played out to five games and saw Mallee pocket a valuable Rubber. (11/4, 9/11, 13/11, 9/11, 14/12)
If Mallee took this Rubber, the night was theirs, which meant this was a must win for Dunkley to have any chance of continuing. Glenn and Yen wrangled it out for four sets, with Yen’s crazy flick shots being the difference and allowing Mallee to Pocket their sixth Rubber. (11/9, 7/11, 11/7, 11/8).
Jen and Nathan were next take to the table, with their matches usually going the full distance. Nathan grabbed the first game, but Jen found her mojo, got the focus going and was able to sneak the win in four sets. (8/11, 11/4, 11/8, 11/8).
The last match was between the two young guns, Jakob and Connor. The rallies were many, and each player gave it their best, with Connor having the edge this time, walking away with the win for Mallee. (11/8, 11/5, 11/13, 11/7).

– Weightmans Packaging 8 (Tom Gilmour l, Eddy Parker 2, Liam Milton 1) d Tankard Dental 3 (Maria Starikov 3, Ildi Healy 1)
Tankard – Maria Starikov, Ildi Healy and Andrew Jeffries. Weightmans – Tom Gilmour, Eddy Parker and Liam Milton.
This encounter was fairly even until the last Doubles, when one team took control.
Eddy had been very reliable, knocking up some great wins for his team during the season, but round 4 and 5 saw him struggling a little. Well, round 6 he found his spark again. Andrew was Eddy’s first victim, with a very quick finish to the opening match. (11/3, 11/4, 11/4).
With number one up against number three, Liam had Maria to deal with Maria’s Brick wall and he had her under pressure in the first game, which did fall to Maria, but not before going out to 15/13. Maria once again found a way to get every shot after shot back and marked up Tankards first Rubber. (15/13, 11/5, 11/8).
Ildi and Tom were the next to round out their match with three seven eleven’s, with some excellent rallies being played out. It was Tom who was able to close out all three games to put Weightmans back in front. (11/7, 1/7, 11/7).
Would Maria and Ildi be able to with stand the force behind Tom and Eddy, in the first Doubles. Weightmans seemed to have control in the first two games, before Weightman’s took a convincing win in the third, but the tables were turned in the next game, when Tankard put the match to bed. (11/6, 11/8, 4/11, 11/4).
This gave Weightman’s a two Rubber lead, with Tankard’s Captain, Maria wanting to give her team a much needed win, which could be a challenge, as she was about to face Eddy. It was a lengthy five sets, with mountains of rallies, one game going out to 15 and the last to 17. Maria took the honor’s, in an exciting match. (11/3, 13/15, 11/6, 8/11, 17/15).
Weightmans Captain was at one end and Tankards number three at the other, with Andrew having no answer for Tom curly shots, in a lightening fast three sets win to Weightmans. (11/0, 11/0, 11/3).
Ildi produced her first win for the night, when she came up against Liam, who did sneak the first game from her, but she was able to write up Tankards third Rubber and give them a little hope. (8/11, 11/6, 11/5, 11/8).
Although there were two matches which went to four sets, the last Doubles was the beginning of a collapse for Tankard, with Weightman’s picking up the remaining four Rubbers.
Maria and Ildi fought hard, worrying Tom and Liam out of the second game, but couldn’t keep up the level needed to take the match. (11/9, 4/11, 11/8, 11/9).
These two often crank out five sets, but this encounter saw Tom controlling most of the match, with a close second set, but Weightmans making it theirs. (11/6, 12/10, 11/6).

As the Rubber continued to mount up for Weightmans, Eddy got the better over Ildi in a match well played by both. (11/8, 11/8, 12/10).
Andrew and Liam seemed to be fairly evenly matched in the last, with neither having total control. In the end Liam notch up his first single win for the night and completed a comprehensive victory for Weightmans. (11/7, 5/11, 11/7, 11/7).
