– Tankard Dental 7 (Reece Kurrle, Thanh Nguyen, Paul Kealley 2) d Mallee Bearings 4 (Joel Thomas 3).
In an even team performance, the Tankard Dental trio of Reece Kurrle, Thanh Nguyen and Paul Kealley all won two singles each in their 7-4 victory over the previously undefeated Mallee Bearings.
Tankards after losing their first two matches of the season have now won two on the trot to grab fourth spot on the ladder albeit by percentage.
Number three player Paul Kealley has now won two singles in three of the four rounds and his form is the reason Tankards have now turned their season around. Kealley also teamed with Reece Kurrle to win the second doubles over Joel Thomas and Daniel Jansen.
For Mallee Bearings Joel Thomas again won three singles to keep his unblemished record intact.
– Cookes Pools & Spas 7 (Kate Carmichael 3, Casper McCarthy, Russell Walder 1) d Regional Taxation Services 4 (Andrew Cannard, Rohan Reimers 2)
Like Tankard Dental, Cookes Pools & Spas have won their second match in succession by defeating Regional Taxation Services 7-4.
Kate Carmichael won three singles for the victors while teammates Casper McCarthy and Russell Walder won one each. Victory in both doubles ensured they banked the four points.
Both Andrew Cannard and Rohan Reimers won two singles each for RTS. Reimers is enjoying another consistent season.
– Choices Flooring Mildura 7 (Wayne Carmichael 3, Leon Brown 2, Ed Hung 1) d Weightmans Packaging 4 (Jackson Tung 2, Dylan Wood 1)
Ladder leaders Choices Flooring Mildura proved too strong for Weightmans Packaging winning 7-4. Skipper Wayne Carmichael again won three singles to remain undefeated while teammates Leon Brown and Ed Hung won two and one singles respectively.
The match of the night was the very first when Hung accounted for Lee Leeson after trailing two sets to one. After many long rallies Hung scored an 11-9 6-11 9-11 11-9 11-9 win to shape the win for his team.

PENNANT TWO:
In defeating Mallee Meats, Choices Flooring Mildura took top spot on the ladder this round, and are the only undefeated team in the competition; Mallee Bearings rose to third when they downed Pinnacle Packers; and Cookes Pools & Spas picked up their first win of the season against Weightmans Packaging who were ladder leaders going into this round.

– Choices Flooring Mildura 8 (Jeremy Corrin 3, Jason Gifkins, Harry Gujral 2) d Mallee Meats 3 (Rasin Bhuiyan, Kevin Johns 1)
Choices Flooring Mildura have not put a foot wrong so far this season, and things are certainly falling into place for them.
Going into this round they sat equal first (second on percentage) on the ladder with Weightmans Packaging, and captain Jeremy Corrin was equal first on the individual aggregate with Weightmans Packaging captain Quentin Clark. By the end of play in this round however, Choices Flooring Mildura were atop the ladder, Weightmans Packaging were second, one win behind; and on the individual aggregate ladder, Corrin took the outright lead and Quentin Clark who had a shocker of a night, fell to third.
Choices Flooring Mildura dominated this match. They won the first four rubbers, and had it won after the seventh.
Captain Jeremy Corrin and number two Jason Gifkins did most of the damage, Corrin with three singles wins, and Gifkins who is making a welcome return, is now finding his previous form won two, and together they won the first doubles rubber in four sets against Kevin Johns (subbing for Mallee Meats captain Ashley Morrison) and Rasin Bhuiyan.
Choices Flooring Mildura number three Harry Gujral had his best night so far, this round winning two singles rubbers.
For Mallee Meats, Johns and Bhuiyan won one singles each (Johns in four sets over Gujral, and Bhuiyan also in four, against Gifkins). The second doubles, a very close affair, was won by Johns and number three David Sergi 7-11, 11-13, 12-10, 12-10, 11-6 against Corrin and Gujral.
Final scores: 8 rubbers to 3 and 28 games to 15.
– Mallee Bearings 8 (Jamie Kealley 3, Terry Martin 2, Therese Fitzpatrick 1) d Pinnacle Packers 3 (Peter Midgley 2, John Fitzpatrick 1).
Mallee Bearings took their second win of the season, and in so doing kept Pinnacle Packers on the bottom of the ladder.
A clean sweep of singles wins by Mallee Bearings captain Jamie Kealley was the highlight here. Kealley also featured in both doubles rubbers partnering with firstly Terry Martin to down Peter Midgley and John Fitzpatrick in a fluctuating first doubles rubber 11-6, 7-11, 11-6, 15-17, 11-3 and later with Therese Fitzpatrick defeating the experienced pair of Midgley and Andrew Jones 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7. A good night’s work for Kealley, and he is now second outright on the aggregate ladder.
Terry Martin and Therese Fitzpatrick contributed significantly in this big eight rubbers to three win. Martin won two singles (in four sets against John Fitzpatrick, and a three set win over Andrew Jones). Therese also defeated Jones – a five setter in which she won the last set 16-14.
After three narrow losses in the first three rounds (six rubbers to five in each one), this was a disappointing loss for Pinnacle Packers. Captain Peter Midgley won two rubbers, and number three John Fitzpatrick one. And that was it. However, with the experience of Midgley and Jones, and the youth of Fitzpatrick, this side will surely play a significant part in this season.
Final scores: 8 rubbers to 3 and 29 games to 15.
– Cookes Pools & Spas 7 (Tom Morrison, Marcus Cimino 3, Michael Hensgen 1) d Weightmans Packaging 4 (Quentin Clark, Brendan Alderton 1)
Cookes Pools & Spas recorded their first win for the season in style, defeating ladder leaders Weightmans Packaging.
Not only that, Tom Morrison and Marcus Cimino conspired to topple Weightmans Packaging captain Quentin Clark from the top of the individual aggregate. These two made it a clean sweep in singles, thus ensuring a win for their side. Their wins were eerily similar too. Morrison defeated Clark in five sets, Marcus did too. Brendan Alderton fell to Morrison in four sets, Marcus defeated Brendan in four sets also. And finally Riley Clemence was defeated in straight sets by them both. No surprise then that they are fifth and sixth on the aggregate (Marcus with 9 wins, Tom has 8).
The seventh rubber came from the bat of captain Michael Hensgen. Michael has had a very quiet start to this season, but in this match battled away for four sets to defeat Riley Clemence, and later played well, but ultimately lost to Quentin Clark in five sets.
Weightmans Packaging were simply outplayed in this encounter. After winning 3, 3 and 2 games in the first three rounds, Weightmans Packaging captain Quentin Clark could only claim one scalp. Similarly Brendan Alderton after scores of 2, 2 and 2, was held to one win, and finally Riley Clemence with a “did not play”, 1 and 1 from his first three rounds was kept scoreless. With wins in both doubles rubbers, the team kept some respectability in the score. Clark and Alderton played a great five setter to down Hensgen and Morrison 11-5, 10-12, 11-9, 7-11, 12-10 and in the second doubles Clark and Clemence had a similar battle with Hensgen and Cimino before winning 4-11, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10, 11-5.
Final scores: 7 rubbers to 4 and 27 games to 19.

PENNANT THREE:
With a bye next round, Weightmans Packaging consolidated their spot at the top of the ladder this week trouncing Sammy’s Slammers, now two games clear of second-placed Exposed Signage & Apparel. Exposed Signage & Apparel for their part jumped from fourth to second with a resounding eight rubbers to three win over Mallee Meats.

– Weightmans Packaging 8 (Ryan Peterson 3, Karly Leach 2, Koby Grace 1) d Sammy’s Slammers 3 (James Jarvis 2, Sabrina Fitzpatrick 1).
Weightmans Packaging captain Ryan Peterson confirmed his dominance with another three game haul in this match with Sammy’s Slammers. Ryan was only extended (slightly) when he played opposing captain James Jarvis. Ryan won that encounter 11-8, 11-7, 5-11, 11-6, his other two rubbers over in straight sets.
Weightmans Packaging number two Karly Leach had another solid night, with two wins,
and number three Koby Grace played his heart out to down Hayden Wilson in five sets 11-5, 12-14, 11-9, 4-11, 14-12 in rubber number eleven.
To complete a great night for the ladder leaders, Peterson and Leach won the first doubles in five sets after being down two sets to one against the Sammy’s Slammers pair of James Jarvis and Sabrina Fitzpatrick (subbing for Nhat Dat). And the second doubles was similar, Peterson and Grace too good for Jarvis and Hayden Wilson, winning in a close match in four sets 17-15, 9-11, 12-10, 11-7.
The pickings were pretty slim for Sammy’s Slammers then – captain James Jarvis had wins against Karly Leach (a touch and go win 12-10, 11-8, 8-11, 10-12, 11-8) and the improving Koby Grace (7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-6). Fill-in Sabrina Fitzpatrick also defeated Grace easily in straight sets.
Final scores: 8 rubbers to 3 and 27 games to 18.
– Exposed Signage/Apparel 8 (Marita Grace, Nick Kiapekos 3) d Mallee Meats 3 (Andrew Kremor, Hamish Smyth, Glenn Leeson 1)
Exposed Signage & Apparel captain Marita Grace made her long awaited debut in this competition with a dominant display in singles and doubles to help her team to an eight rubbers to three demolition of Mallee Meats.
Marita has had work commitments keep her away for the first couple of rounds, but she showed she has been getting some practice in with dominant three set wins in each of her singles rubbers.
And getting into the mood, number two Nick Kiapekos followed suit – he too won three singles, also in straight sets!! That is what an inspiring captain can do for you!!
To complete the rout, Exposed Signage & Apparel won both doubles – Grace and Kiapekos dropping their only set of the night in their four set win against Andrew Kremor and Hamish Smyth 9-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-6. And the second doubles was another benefit for Exposed Signage & Apparel, Grace and Wendy Simpson much too good for Kremor and Glenn Leeson, winning 11-7, 11-3, 11-8.
Mallee Meats won three rubbers only, Kremor, Smyth and Leeson all defeated the Exposed Signage & Apparel number three Wendy Simpson, Kremor winning in three sets, Smyth took five sets in a close call (11-9, 9-11, 11-5. 9-11, 11-9) and Leeson won the battle of the number threes in four sets.
Final scores: 8 rubbers to 3 and 29 games to 8.

PENNANT FOUR:
Unfortunately I was unable to be a part of Round four, which I was pretty disappointed about, but sometimes our body lets us know where we need to be. There were a couple of others who needed to be else where as well, so Gav’s job was made a little difficult once again, in the chase for fill-in’s. We had a new player, Chitra Rankin, filling in for Selma Mayne, in Dunkley Scales team and Nathan Beard, made another appearance for Tankard Dental. With Mallee Meats only having one of their permanent players, in Maria Starikov there, but Sam Campbell and Peter Fitzpatrick, dropped down from P3 and made up the team, but with bat in left hand, to make the competition more balanced.

– Dunkley Scales 7 (Deegan Kerslake , Tom Gilmour 3) d Weightmans Packaging 4 (Gary Leach, Raj Gujral, Curtis Crabtree 1)
The night started off with a five set clash between Weightman’s Curtis Crabtree and Dunkley’s Tom Gilmour. Curtis took the first set, but Tom snuck in the next couple to put the pressure on. The Rubber finished falling Dunkley’s way (9/11, 11/6, 13/11, 3/11, 11/9). Deegan Kerslake was too much for Gary Leach to handle in the next, with another Rubber going to Dunkley (11/6, 11/3, 11/6). Raj Gujral and Chitra Rankin had a really good close match, which was lovely to see, with it being Chitra’s first comp. Raj collected Weightman’s first Rubber after four sets (11/8, 8/11, 11/8, 11/9).
The first Doubles match toppled over in three sets to Dunkley, with Tom and Deegan, to much for Curtis and Gary to handle, although they did push them in the last couple (11/6, 12/10, 12/10).
Tom must have been switched on, as he was clearly out to win, adding this to his list, when he shut Gary down in three sets (11/1, 11/8, 11/8). This put Weightman’s on the back foot, with the match standing at 4 to 1. Dunkley’s number three fill-in, Chitra put up a good fight against Weightman’s number 1, but Curtis was far too solid, marking up a much needed Rubber for his team (11/8, 11/5, 11/5). Raj has improved so much and pressed Deegan in their three setter, but it wasn’t enough to stop Dunkley’s fifth Rubber (11/9, 11/6, 11/9).
It seemed like Tom and Chitra were going to add that eagerly awaited sixth point, after they grabbed the first two sets, but Curtis and Raj rallied and took the next set to a 17 /15 win, which seemed to ignite their engines, taking the next two comfortably to give Weightmans a third Rubber (8/11, 7/11, 17/15, 11/7 11/7).
Gary was fighting to keep his team in the running and put together a winner against Chitra, after she made him work for the middle set (11/3, 12/10, 11/5). Weightman’s were now only one Rubber behind Dunkley and the next game was crucial. With Tom up against Raj, the percentages weren’t in Weightman’s favor and Tom came out the better in three sets, to hand Dunkley that winning Rubber and the overall win (11/6, 11/4, 11/9). The final game of the night also went Dunkley’s way with Deegan just sneaking in after five sets with Curtis (11/5, 7/11, 9/11, 11/4, 11/7).
WINNERS : Dunkley Scales 7 to Weightman’s Packaging 4 GAMES : 24 to 16.
– Mallee Meats 6 (Maria Starikov 2, Sam Campbell, Peter Fitzpatrick 1) d Tankard Dental 5 (Ildi Healy 3, Nathan Beard 2)
Well, how do you do it ??? I really don’t know, as to me, your Right handed, or your Left handed, so to attempt to play with your un-co hand, would be nigh impossible for me. But, when it comes to these P3 players, they can handle those kind of things. and put up a good challenge.
Tankard’s Connor Burnett faced up to left handed Sam Campbell, which turned out to be quite a close game, but Sam run away with it in four sets (11/9, 11/7, 10/12, 11/7). Ildi Healy has a very consistent game, which made it too hard for Mallee’s Peter Fitzpatrick, with his un-co method (11/7, 11/2, 11/8). It’s amazing that this next match went only went to three sets, as Maria Starikov and Nathan Beard are usually rallying until the cows come home. But it seems Maria must have worked out a few things to get the upper hand on Nathan, completing their match in 3 sets (11/9, 11/6, 11/9).
Maria and Sam were a good pair in the first Doubles, up against Ildi and Nathan and after four sets, they chalked up a third win for Mallee Meats (5/11, 11/6, 11/8, 11/7).
Ildi kept her team in and game after she came out on top in her contest with Sam, in an exciting five sets (11/8, 8/11, 11/7, 2/11, 11/6). Maria put up that Maria wall again, in her defeat of Connor, but he didn’t go down without a fight (11/3, 12/10, 11/5). In four sets, Nathan made his first mark on the match, leaving Peter hunting for a lefty win, mind you the President put in a very good run (11/6, 11/8, 10/12, 11/9).
The second Doubles put Mallee in front by 2, after Maria and Peter showed up the Ildi and Connor pairing (11/8, 11/7, 11/8).
Ildi, with her calming nature, wasn’t ready to give up and increased her skill level to break through Maria’s barrier and add the point Tankard badly needed (6/11, 4/11, 12/10, 11/8, 13/11). It was game on when it came to Nathan and Sam’s match, as Mallee only needed one more Rubber.
But a determined Nathan scratched that notion, belting out a five set match and winning the last two sets to pick up a point (8/11, 11/8, 2/11, 14/12, 11/7). What a night, with everything coming down to the last match, which was between the number three Connor and the left hander Peter. It was a super five set contest, with Peter collecting the first couple, Connor going all out and making the next two and the final game landing Peters way, which gave Mallee Meats a well deserved win.
