With their sixth win on the trot ,in round seven matches of the Sunraysia Table Tennis Pennant, ladder leader Choices Flooring Mildura continued their good form despite skipper Arhuang Lau losing his first singles match for the season.
– Choices Flooring Mildura 6 (Arhuang (Wong) Lau 2, Rohan Reimers, Jason Gifkins 1) d Regional Taxation Services 5 (Kate Carmichael 3, Andrew Cannard 2)

Choices narrow 6-5 win came at the expense of second placed Regional Taxation Services which was their first loss in a month. After losing in round one Choices Flooring Mildura have been very consistent and this round they jumped out to a 5-2 lead before RTS fought back.
Doubles were the key in the result with Choice’s pair Lau and Rohan Reimers defeating Kate Carmichael and Andrew Cannard in straight sets while later Lau and Jason Gifkins proved too strong for Carmichael and Michael Tan, winning in four sets.
With the scores locked at five rubbers all Choices number three Jason Gifkins proved too steady for Tan winning 11-8 4-11 11-9 11-9 in a close battle.
Apart from being involved in both doubles’ victories Arhuang Lau also won two singles, his only blemish a four-set loss to Kate Carmichael. While Lau has missed two rounds of play this season this was his first singles loss and his form has been excellent.
For Regional Taxation Services Kate Carmichael and Andrew Cannard won three and two singles respectively. Cannard has been very consistent each round and his victories included a very solid straight sets win over the talented Rohan Reimers. The loss of both doubles proved to be the difference to RTS in the battle for the four points.
-Weightmans Packaging 7 (Wayne Carmichael 3, Jackson Murphy, Lee Leeson 1) d Tankard Dental 4 (Jamie Kealley 2, Mark Dorman, Ed Hung 1)

Doubles again were the key when Weightmans Packaging accounted for Tankard Dental 7-4. As well as winning three singles Wayne Carmichael also took part in both doubles victories as Weightmans raced to a 5-0 lead, to their credit Tankard Dental did fight back to win four of the last six rubbers to make the scoreboard a little more impressive.
Included in Wayne Carmichael’s three singles victories was an impressive four set win over young gun Jamie Kealley who possesses a real power game. This match included many fine rallies. A highlight for Tankard’s was the first singles victory for the season by veteran Ed Hung who managed a three-set win over Lee Leeson. Hung has been playing well and was very relieved to take this victory. Later Leeson rebounded and scored an impressive four set win over the consistent Mark Dorman 9-11 11-5 11-7 11-8 a big turnaround by Leeson. With this big win Weightmans Packaging have secured a position in the top four.
– Mallee Bearings 8 (Paul Kealley 3, Jackson Tung 2, Ashley Morrison 1) d Cookes Pools & Spas 3 (Reece Kurrle 2, Liam Wood 1)

In a solid team performance Mallee Bearings scored a strong and important 8-3 victory over Cookes Pools & Spas. Teammates Paul Kealley, Jackson Tung and Ashley Morrison won three, two and one singles respectively. Tung also took part in both doubles’ victories. Number two Kealley was in excellent form, included in his three singles was an amazing five set victory over opposing number one Reece Kurrle with the fifth going on and on with both players a chance to take victory, in the end it was the consistent Kealley who won 11-4 2-11 11-9 9-11 15-13.
In a busy night Kurrle played in three five set singles matches, his second was against Bearings number three Ashley Morrison who was out of the blocks quickly winning the first two games and amazingly then held two match points in the third before Kurrle was able to rally and pick up the third. He then fought back to win in five sets 9-11 7-11 13-11 11-1 11-6 what a match.
In his third five setter Kurrle recovered from a 1-2 deficit against Jackson Tung to win in a lengthy match 8-11 12-10 6-11 11-4 11-7.

All matches were resolved in a seven rubbers to four win for each of the three victors in this round. And this week’s three winners now sit first, second and third on the ladder.
– Tankard Dental 7 (Josh Arnold 3, Kym Sykes, Juan Castro 1) d Dunkley Scales 4 (Rasin Bhuiyan, Chris Cen 2)

Tankard Dental recorded their sixth win from seven games this round. The losers here, Dunkley Scales, have only won two rounds for the season.
Tankard Dental captain Josh Arnold was once again in fine form. He was not really challenged in singles play – each of those matches were resolved in three sets, and only one, against opposing captain Rasin Bhuiyan, looked anything remotely like a challenge with the third set there going to 12-10. Arnold cleaned up in the doubles too. He and his number two Kym Sykes were challenged by Dunkley Scales Bhuiyan and Chris Cen, but saw them off in five sets 11-5, 11-5, 9-11, 10-12, 11-3. Arnold and Juan Castro had a straightforward win in the second doubles against Bhuiyan and Sam Campbell, winning in three.
Sykes and Castro picked up one singles rubber apiece, that being against Campbell, to give Tankard Dental their seven rubbers.
For Dunkley Scales, Bhuiyan and Cen won two rubbers, both against Sykes and Castro. Rasin won both his in three sets, Chris downed Castro in three, but had his hands full with the energetic Kym Sykes. In only the second five setter of the night, Cen got over the line 11-7, 19-21, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9.
Final scores: Tankard Dental won 7 rubbers to 4 and 23 games to 16.
– Pinnacle Packers 7 (Therese Fitzpatrick, James Jarvis 3. Koby Grace 1) d Weightmans Packaging 4 (Kevin Johns, Steve Parker 1)

Pinnacle Packers captain Therese Fitzpatrick and her number two James Jarvis both won all their singles rubbers in this game.
The Weightmans Packaging number three Andrew Kremor gave Therese the most grief in her three wins. Kremor led 11-9, 11-8 and had chances to wrap up the match in the third, but Therese hung on to win that set 14-12. Once Therese had a taste of winning there was no stopping her, she took the last two sets 11-4, 11-5. Steve Parker could not get his teeth into his match with Therese, losing in three, and in the final round of singles
opposing captain Kevin Johns extracted one set from her before going down 9-11, 12-10, 10-12, 6-11.
Jarvis had an easier time of it, in his three wins. He also had a four set win over Johns 3-11, 14-12, 11-9, 11-7. He had exactly zero trouble with the troublesome Andrew Kremor, winning that match 1, 4 and 7, and against the opposing number two Steve Parker recorded another three set win.
And Koby Grace kicked in with one win – this against Kremor in the final rubber of the night. Kremor actually played well for no wins (except in doubles) and his loss in this match reflected that. Grace won 9-11, 11-5, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6.
It was just as well that the Pinnacle Packers players performed well in singles, for they lost both doubles contests. Johns and Parker bested the high-flying singles pair of Fitzpatrick and Jarvis in four sets 11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7. And Kremor got some reward for his labours with a win in the second doubles – he and Johns getting the better of Fitzpatrick and Grace 4-11, 11-4, 12-10, 11-6.
Final scores: Pinnacle Packers won 7 rubbers to 4 and 24 games to 18.
– Mallee Meats 7 (Quentin Clark, Andrew Jones 2, Sony Sefer 1) d Sammy’s Slammers 4 (Daniel Jansen 3, Yen Hwak 1)

Mallee Meats were without their number two (Keegan Kerslake) and number three (Jamie Stanley) for this match, with Sony Sefer and Andrew Jones filling in. The fill-ins proved their worth, winning three singles rubbers and helping captain Quentin Clark to wins in both doubles.
Clark was on course for a “perfect night”, wins in three singles and both doubles, but Sammy’s Slammers captain Daniel Jansen spoilt that party. After downing both Ryan Hensgen and Yen Hwak in four sets earlier in the night, and with both doubles under his belt, Quentin faced off with Jansen. Daniel led two sets to love 13-11, 11-7 in this high quality match, only to see Quentin fight his way back into the contest with wins in the next two sets 11-8, 11-7. The fifth set was nip and tuck the whole way, with the bounce of the ball going to Jansen, 11-9.
Playing at number three, Andrew Jones contributed two singles wins – a fighting five set victory against Ryan Hensgen 12-14, 11-6, 11-9, 9-11,
12-10. He finished the night with a four set win against opposite number Yen Hwak.
Sony Sefer picked up one win – this against Hensgen in three sets. His earlier matches against Jansen and Hwak saw wins to his opponents in straight sets. Sony’s lack of match play a handicap, but by the time the third round of singles came round, he was ready for Hensgen, hence the win.
The other two rubbers for the winners came in the doubles – Clark and Sefer a solid win against Jansen and Hensgen 11-8, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7. And in the second doubles Clark and Jones a similar win against Jansen and Hwak 11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 11-7.
For Sammy’s Slammers, Jansen won three singles, and Hwak took a solitary win against Sefer.
Final scores: Mallee Meats won 7 rubbers to 4 and 24 games to 19.

Round seven saw some sensational Table Tennis with each of the three encounters needing Fill-in’s. In all. five put their hand up to help out struggling teams.
It was a real Family affair with the Fitzpatrick, Husband and Wife way, which allowed the Bottam’s, Father and Son and the Leach, Mother and Daughter combinations to enjoy competing in the same Team.
– Cookes Pools & Spas 9 (Darren Bottams 3, Glenn Leeson. Joel Bottams 2) d Regional Taxation Services 2 (Michael Hensgen 2)

Regional : Peter Fitzpatrick (Fill-in, Michael Hensgen), Maria Starikov and Conner Burnett (Fill-in, Gary Leach). Cookes : Sabrina Fitzpatrick (Fill-in, Darren Bottams), Glenn Leeson and Joel Bottams.
With this being Gary’s first Comp game since 2025, he knew life was going to be tough, when he turned to see Glenn at the other end of the Table. He gave Glenn a scare at times through the match, coming away with 10 points in the second game, but Cookes number two had all the answers, halting the game at three sets.
Joel wouldn’t have been unhappy with the way he played his match against Michael, after a five set clash falling to Regional, in a lengthy 12/10 final game, which included some great rallies.
Maria put the wall of defense up in her battle with Darren, which caught him unawares in the first game, before Cookes fill-in got the better and wound it up in three sets.
Michael and Maria started off in good form only allowing Cookes pair of Darren and Glenn 6 points in the first game. It didn’t take long for the match to heat up though, with a 13/11 win to Cookes in the next. Regional fought back to grab the third, but it wasn’t quite enough, with Darren and Glenn finding another gear to pencil in their third Rubber.
Michael certainly found a way around his match with Glenn, not leaving him too many options to score and winding things up in three sets.
Between Gary’s and Darren’s Spinning, cutting serves, they were both in a quandary, as to finding the best Avenue, but it was Darren’s sneaky slams that brought the match to an end in three, in favor of Cookes.
Maria can throw a spanner in your game very easily, with her super fast reflexes, but on this occasion, Joel was superior and seemed to find a way to end the skirmish quickly.
This win had Cookes sitting on five Rubbers, with the finals Doubles to come next. If the Father / Son combo of Darren and Joel were to be successful against Michael and Gary, it would bring about a Victory for Cookes.
Regional made the first move, popping away the first game, then, Boom, out came the Bottams pair with some super shots and an 11/2 win. The final two games were more competitive and although close, it would see the Bottams rise to the Top, with the required 6th Rubber.
The last three matches saw the heat being turned up even further, as all were taken out by Cookes, giving them a memorable win. Darren racked up his third Single win, when he came away on top in his wrangle with Michael, along with playing a major part in the 2 Doubles win.
Glenn eventually got the better of Maria in a lengthy rally filled three setter, before Joel took care of Gary in similar fashion, but not without a focused fight from Regionals number three.
WINNER : Cookes Pools and Spa’s 9 to Regional Taxation Services 2.
GAMES : Cookes 29 to Regional 9.
– Mallee Meats 8 (Anthony Fox 3, Tom Gilmour 2, Jake Hines 1) d Exposed Signage/Apparel 3 (Nick Kiapekos 2, Nathan Beard 1)

Mallee – Anthony Fox, Tom Gilmour and Jake Hines. Exposed – Nick Kiapekos, Leanne Wilson (Fill-in, Russell Walder) and Nathan Beard.
The tussle between these two Teams only produced one Five setter and was a little one sided, but was fought hard by both sides.
Russell, being a Pennant one player, was filling in, but had a Handicap, as he was instructed to play left handed. For some players, this doesn’t seem to inhibit their game, but it would be fair to say, Russ would prefer his right. His first opponent was Jake, and there were a couple of tight games, before Jake came away smiling and taking the Rubber in three sets.
It was another three set Rubber for Mallee, when Anthony stopped Nathan in his tracks. Exposed’s number three put all he had into the last game, forcings the score out to 10/12, but he didn’t have the shots, with Mallee’s Captain out foxing him.
Nick and Tom had a great match, with a load of Rallies. Tom snuck in the opening game, which sent alarm bells ringing in Nick’s ear. Exposed number one didn’t want to see his team loosing another Rubber and found a little extra, to pull in the next three for their first win.
The first Doubles saw a midstream turn around, with Nick and Russ getting the ball rolling, winning the first two games and putting all the pressure onto Anthony and Tom. The Mallee pair weren’t having a bar of that, finding their rhythm and running away with the following three games for the win.
Russell pushed Anthony to the limit in their match and although Mallee did take the Rubber, Russ had the Mallee Captain sweating, with the first two games of the three setter going to (14/12, 12/10).
Jake then had to face Nick and with the score at 4 to 1, I don’t think Nick’s was giving an inch. The experience of Nick was far too much for Mallee’s number three and the skirmish was over in a flash, with Exposed finding a way to pause the onslaught.
The luck didn’t last long for Exposed, with Tom doing a demolition job on Nathan, which put his team on five Rubbers and made the job very difficult for Exposed.
Nick and Nathan were hoping to find an opening they could sneak through in their clash against Anthony and Jake. Mallee only needed one more Rubber to give their team the outright win for the night. This Mallee wish did eventuate, but not before a tough fight in the third game (14/12) with some fantastic shot making from Exposed.
With the nights victory already decided the remaining matches saw two in the hands of Mallee and the last landing with Exposed.
Anthony had what it took to roll Nick in four sets, which gave him the perfect results for the night, 3 Singles wins, two Doubles and a win by his team.
Russell’s lefty shots grew in strength as time went on, with his determination getting him close in all three games against Tom. But Mallee stuck to their plan and weren’t handing out any free Rubber, with Tom pocketing his second for the night.
Jake is coming up with some very nice shots of late and hanging in longer in his matches. Nathan did sneak the third Rubber for Exposed, in a match which saw Jake steal a game.
WINNER : Mallee Meats 8 to Exposed Signage / Apparel 3.
GAMES : 26 to 12.
– Dunkley Scales 7 (Karly Leach 3, Rodney Galvin, Jenny Leach 2) d Mallee Bearings 4 (Hayden Wilson 2)

Dunkley – Karly Leach, Rodney Galvin and Jeff Forsyth (Fill-in, Jen Leach). Mallee – Hayden Wilson, Jakob Grzan and Costa Skiadis.
The final encounter for the night was a closer affair, with four matches going all the way to five. It also brought about the second Family pairing, with Mother and Daughter, joining Rod hoping to play well and enjoy the experience.
Jen had been away for five weeks and was pretty nervous, hoping she wasn’t going to let down Karly’s Team. The opening Match was between Jen and Costa, which was a very tight clash, with three of the four games going to 12/10. Costa has a very reliable game, where he finds a way to get just about everything back on the table. The match concluded in favor of Jen, but was tight right to the last ball.
Karly encountered Hayden in their first match, which included many long rallies and some amazing placement shots. Hayden pocketed the third game with a 12/10, but he struggled to overcome Karly’s Chopping, giving Dunkley a second Rubber.
With the third singles match winding up in four sets also, it would be Jakob who would sneak in to pinch the first game, but it would be Rod’s sneaky serves which would enable him to steal the match. Jakob threw down some terrific forehands, but Rods game was a bit too much on this occasion.
It took five sets to get a final winner of the Doubles, with a Tug of War between Karly and Rod, against Hayden and Jakob. Dunkley made the first move, scooping up the first game with some fancy moves. But this was short lived with Mallee retaliating in the second. The third and fourth games were a repeat of the previous two, but both teams got serious in the last with a 13/11 win giving Mallee their first Rubber.
Costa made Karly work for her win, gathering nine points in the second and third games, a credit to his focus. It was a great game to watch, with rallies consuming most every game, but as Karly dose, she found a way to get the win for her team.
With Mallee only holding one Rubber to four, Jakob had to give his match against Jen all he had. Mallee’s number two took out the first game in a close one. But the next three games, were doozeys, with (12/10,12/10,13/11) score lines. They were action packed from start to finish, with a very surprised Jen coming away with the win.
It was a five set battle between Rod and Hayden next up, which was a do or die situation for Mallee, with their opposition only needing one more win to topple them. Neither player had total control of the match, with it see sawing back and fourth. In the end it was Hayden’s execution of his forehand which landed him the win and kept team in the game.
It was lovely to stand with my Daughter in the Doubles and give it our best shot to bring home a win for the team. The Match against Hayden and Costa stayed alive for five sets and was played with plenty of passion by all players. The Mallee pair did a great job, bringing home the last two games and giving their team a fighting chance.
Dunkley’s Captain was facing Jakob, which would work out to be a challenge he couldn’t stand up to. Jakob is improving with every week and did his very best to stop Karly’s run, but it would be Dunkley’s night and also Karly’s third singles win.
Costa made a valiant effort in trying to get a win from Rod, but in the finish Dunkley’s number two wore him down in a five set rumble.
Jen and Hayden were the last to hit out and Hayden’s consistent game was far too strong for Jen, even if there was a last minute ditch in the third game with a 12/10 to Hayden.
WINNER : Dunkley Scales 7 to Mallee Bearings 4.
GAMES : Dunkley 28 to Mallee 17.
