– Regional Taxation Services 6 (Kate Carmichael, Andrew Cannard 2. Michael Tan 1) d Weightmans Packaging 5 (Wayne Carmichael, Thanh Nguyen 2)

The stars of the match were RTS pair Andrew Cannard and number three Michael Tan who has been impressive. Cannard who scored his second ever win over Wayne Carmichael. This was an entertaining four set match with Cannard using his trusty back hand to advantage. Each game was close and late in the fourth the feeling was Carmichael may level at two games all and go on to win in five however Cannard was having none of that and fought on to grab the fourth and the match 11-9 10-12 11-8 and finally an amazing 18-16, a tremendous win by Cannard to take his team to a 3-2 lead.
Later Carmichael stung by this loss took control early against niece Kate Carmichael winning the first two games before Kate fought back to level at two games all. Wayne was able to gain the ascendancy and record a solid five set victory.
When Weightmans number two Thanh Nguyen then accounted for Andrew Cannard the game was on as the scores now 5 rubbers all with one match remaining.
Up to the table came RTS number three Michael Tan and it was Tan who was able to get off to a flyer against Lee Leeson. He took the first and second 11-4 11-4. As she has in the past Leeson fought hard to level the match winning the the third and fourth. With the four points on the line Tan was able to grab the accendancy and go to win 11-4 11-4 13-15 8-11 11-9 a thriller .
– Choices Flooring Mildura 6 (Arhuang (Wong) Lau 3, Rohan Reimers, Jason Gifkins 1) d Mallee Bearings 5 (Jackson Tung, Paul Kealley 2)

Second placed Choices Flooring Mildura also scored a very close 6-5 victory over Mallee Bearings .
Skipper Arhuang Wong was on fire in this match winning his three singles as well as scoring a doubles victory with number three Jason Gifkins.
At one stage Mallee Bearings took a 4-2 lead before Choices jumped into action and won four of the last five matches. At five rubbers all it was Choices Jason Gifkins who was able to defeat opponent Ash Morrison in four sets 11-8 7-11 11-5 11-4 a solid win as well as banking the four points and enabling his team to remain in second place.
– Cookes Pools & Spas 7 (Reece Kurrle, Liam Wood 2, Duy Truong 1) d Tankard Dental 4 (Jamie Kealley 3. Mark Dorman 1)

It has taken five rounds however in an excellent team effort Cooke’s Pools and Spas have tasted success defeating Tankard Dental 7-4 despite Tankards Jamie Kealley winning three singles for the second round in succession.
Cooke’s skipper Reece Kurrle enjoyed a successful night despite going down to Kealley in four sets. Kurrle was able to win two singles as well as combining with team mates Liam Wood and Duy Truong to win both doubles in five sets. Victory came in both doubles despite trailing 1-2 in both.
Cooke’s number two Liam Wood was impressive winning two singles including a four set win over veteran Mark Dorman while team mate Duy Truong outlasted fellow number three Ed Hung in four sets in the last match of the evening.
This had been a true team effort by the Cooke’s trio and they will be keen to press on for further victories from this point.

PENNANT TWO:
The first four rounds of this competition were close, with over half of the scores in four rounds decided six rubbers to five. This round however, there were two eight rubbers to three results, and one of those involved the previously unbeaten Tankard Dental. Looks like things are hotting up …
| Win | Loss | Pts | Rubbers | Games | % | % | |||

– Pinnacle Packers 8 (Therese Fitzpatrick 3, James Jarvis, Koby Grace 2) d Tankard Dental 3 (Josh Arnold 2)

The Tankard Dental trio of Josh Arnold, Kym Sykes and Juan Castro have proved to be too good for the rest of the competition so far this season, but this round Pinnacle Packers brought them back to earth with a decisive eight rubbers to three defeat.
Led by captain Therese Fitzpatrick (3 singles wins), James Jarvis (2 wins) and Koby Grace (2 wins) contributed to the rout, and Fitzpatrick and Grace cleaned up Arnold and Castro in the second doubles in straight sets.
That is not to say that all the wins came easily, Fitzpatrick had a predictably close match with opposing captain Josh Arnold, winning in five sets. The same is true of James Jarvis’s win against the ever improving Kym Sykes. Jarvis took the win in their confrontation 10-12, 11-7, 3-11, 11-9, 11-4.
Pinnacle Packers gave themselves a chance of winning both doubles, but Arnold and Sykes proved the stronger combination when they played Fitzpatrick and Jarvis, winning 11-6, 11-6, 8-11, 9-11, 11-3.
Apart from the doubles win, only Arnold contributed to Tankard Dental’s tally of wins. He defeated both Jarvis and Grace in straight sets.
Although beaten here, Tankard Dental are still a game clear at the top of the ladder on 16 points, with three teams, Mallee Meats, Pinnacle Packers and Sammy’s Slammers a game behind.
Final scores: Pinnacle Packers won 8 rubbers to 3 and 26 games to 14.
– Mallee Meats 7 (Quentin Clark, Jamie Stanley 2, Deegan Kerslake 1) d Dunkley Scales 4 (Rasin Bhuiyan, Chris Cen 2)

Mallee Meats kept their second spot on the ladder (by the slimmest of margins) by defeating Dunkley Scales in this round five match.
By winning all matches in the second round of singles, Mallee Meats shot out to a five rubbers to two lead, then capped the win in the next rubber, the second doubles.
No player on either side had a clean sweep of singles wins; the stand-out player really, was Mallee Meats number three Jamie Stanley. Stanley played the first rubber of the match against the very consistent Chris Cen. Stanley lost the match, but will certainly take a lot of confidence from it, as the loss (12-10, 4-11, 13-15, 11-9, 10-12) to the Dunkley Scales number two was in the balance until the final point. Stanley followed up this loss with a five set win against the Dunkley Scales captain Rasin Bhuiyan. Stanley led two sets to love 11-5, 11-9, but Bhuiyan saved match points in the third set (winning it 16-14) to keep himself in the contest. Bhuiyan controlled the fourth set, winning that 11-9 to level at two sets all. Stanley made a big push in the final set, and took it 11-7 to claim his biggest scalp of the season. To complete his satisfying night of table tennis, Stanley teamed with his captain Quentin Clark to win the second doubles, another five setter, against Bhuiyan and Sam Campbell.
Quentin Clark won two singles rubbers also, against Sam Campbell in four sets, and in three sets against Chris Cen. Deegan Kerslake picked up one singles win, against Campbell, and teamed with his captain to claim the first doubles rubber, in four sets, against Bhuiyan and Cen.
For Dunkley Scales, Bhuiyan defeated Kerslake and Clark, and Cen downed Stanley and Kerslake.
Final scores: Mallee Meats won 7 rubbers to 4 and 25 games to 20.
– Sammy’s Slammers 8 (Daniel Jansen 3, Ryan Hensgen 2, Yen Hwak 1) d Weightmans Packaging 3 (Kevin Johns 2, Andrew Kremor 1)

Sammy’s Slammers cemented fourth spot on the ladder in this round, with a comprehensive win over Kevin Johns’ Weightmans Packaging side.
Daniel Jansen, Ryan Hensgen and Yen Hwak won three, two and one singles rubbers respectively, and the side won both doubles encounters.
The Sammy’s Slammers captain Daniel Jansen had a particularly good night. He only dropped two sets in the five rubbers he played – one against Kevin Johns in the final round of singles, and one in the second doubles. He and Yen Hwak were never in any real trouble against Johns and Kremor, winning 11-3, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8.
Ryan Hensgen, playing at number two for Sammy’s Slammers would go home pleased with his night’s work. He took a set from Weightmans Packaging captain Kevin Johns, easily defeated Andrew Kremor, and survived his encounter with Steven Parker, coming back from two sets to one down to win 6-11, 11-9, 8-11, 17-15, 11-5.
Yen Hwak also got the better of Parker, winning in four, to secure one win for the night, but did not have the answers when playing his opposite number Andrew Kremor, losing that match in four sets.
The doubles rubbers were dominated by Sammy’s Slammers – Jansen and Hensgen won in straight sets 9, 2 and 9 against Johns and Parker, and Jansen and Hwak were not really troubled in their four set win against Johns and Kremor.
Final scores: Sammy’s Slammers won 8 rubbers to 3 and 26 games to 14.

PENNANT THREE:
With the Weather still being kind to everyone for Summer Pennant, Round 5 saw some exciting challenges, some very close, but one in particular, was a resounding win.
The Ladder after four Rounds was sitting with 2 teams, Cookes Pools and Spa’s and Dunkley Scales, equal on 12 points, Mallee Bearings with 2 wins, on 8 points and Mallee Meats on 4 points with only the one win. Regional Taxation Services and Exposed Signage, were yet to sneak a win.

– Dunkley Scales 10 (Karly Leach, Rodney Galvin 3, Jeff Forsyth 2) d Exposed Signage/Apparel 1 (Leanne Wilson 1)

Exposed: Nick Kiapekos, Leanne Wilson and Nathan Beard. Dunkley: Karly Leach, Rodney Galvin and Jeff Forsyth.
Going by the last rounds, this would be a battle for Exposed, but it didn’t stop them from throwing everything at Dunkley.
The first set of Singles started with a three setter between Nathan and Rod, with a great fight from Exposed’s number three, but it wasn’t enough to get him over the line, with the Rubber going to Rod.
It was four sets for Nick and Jeff, with each game tight, Nick taking the second, but Jeff kept his eye on the job at hand and earned a second Rubber for his team.
With the pressure building for Exposed, Leanne put together a fantastic effort against Karly, forcing her to five sets. But Karly was able to hold her nerve and add another win.
Nick and Leanne were next to the Table, facing Karly and Rod in the first Doubles. Dunkley got off to a good start, marking up the first two games, before Exposed pair paused their run and snatched the third. Dunkley turned up the switch and brought the match to a halt in a four set win.
Nick and Rod had a doozey of a match, with Rod capturing the first with ease, but had to battle to take the next (12/10). Nick found his way in the following two games to level up the game. The fifth game swung back and fourth, until a 14/12 win went the way of Rod.
At this stage, Exposed had not won a Rubber and Nathan was about to face Dunkley’s Captain, which would mean, it would need to be a straight run of six wins, if Exposed were to emerge winners.
Karly wasn’t going to let her side down and in three games, she penciled in Dunkley’s sixth Rubber.
The following Match between Jeff and Leanne saw Exposed’s number two stand tall and pocket a Rubber for her team. It was a good skirmish from both, with Jeff grabbing the third game, but Leanne always had control.
The remaining four Matches went the way of Dunkley, with Karly and Jeff defeating Leanne and Nathan in the Doubles. Karly marking up her third Singles win after a four setter with Nick, and Rod following suit when he had a win over Leanne. Jeff rounded out the strong victory for Dunkley, in a three set match win over Nathan.
WINNER: Dunkley Scales – 10 to Exposed Signage and Apparel 1.
GAMES : Dunkley – 31 to Exposed – 10
– Regional Taxation Services 6 (Peter Fitzpatrick 2, Maria Starikov, Conner Burnett 1) d Mallee Meats 5 (Anthony Fox 3, Tom Gilmour 2)

The last pair of teams to contest Round 5 had a lot closer tussle, with the Rubbers see-sawing between teams.
Mallee : Anthony Fox, Tom Gilmore and Jake Hines. Regional : Peter Fitzpatrick, Maria Starikov and Conner Burnett.
Once the First Doubles had been completed, Regional had taken a three to one lead. This commenced with the a win from Maria over Jake in a three set match which saw Jake throw in some very curly shots, but this wasn’t enough to upset Maria’s very defensive game.
Regional’s number three, Connor, put up a fine clash against Mallee’s number one, slamming down his lightening forehands. This may have put a slight pause on Anthony’s game, but it didn’t stop him from penciling in a winning Rubber.
Peter threw Tom into shock in their first game, only allowing him one point. Tom was able to build on that number in the following two games, but Peter cancelled out any hope of a Mallee win, completing the match in three sets.
Anthony and Tom couldn’t mount a fight in the first game, but pulled themselves together in the second and third to make a good contest of the Doubles against Peter and Maria. In the end it was a Regional win, with a (12/10 and 13/11) result in the final two games.
Mallee’s Captain marked up another Rubber for his team, when he came up against Maria. It did only go to three, but Maria threw in some of her renowned rallies in the third game. This gave Mallee some breathing space, now only behind by one.
The Jake verses Peter match was over in a flash. Not to say Jake wasn’t giving his best, but it was no way up to the standard of Regional’s number one.
Connor can be difficult to defeat at times, but on this occasion, Tom seemed to have everything in his corner, even when Conner got to 9 points in the third, Tom pulled out his elusive serve, to bring the game to an end.
The only five setter in this encounter, was the final Doubles. Anthony and Jake, took on Peter and Conner, in a toppsey turvey match, which swayed from Mallee to Regional throughout. At the completion of the match, Regional had moved to five Rubbers, giving them a definite advantage.
But as so often happens, Captains find that little extra, to pull their team up from the depths. Both Peter and Anthony had quite convincingly won two sets each, so who would walk away with this win. The fight was hard and determined in the first two games, which were both very close. But Anthony only permitted Peter one point in the third and last game, giving Mallee the Rubber they needed for a chance of turning the tables.
Tom and Maria always have a lengthy tussle and this round be no different, with two games going the distance (14/12 and 13/11) which pushed the match out to four sets. It would be Tom who would claim this one and bring it all back to even, 5 V 5.
The pressure was now on Jake and Conner, the two number three player. The first two games were quite easy for Connor, who sent down some untouchable deliveries. But Jake turned up the action button in the third and made Conner work hard right to the end. The eventual win did fall to Conner, which gave the victory Rubber to Regional Taxation.
WINNER : Regional Taxation Services 6 to Mallee Meats 5.
GAMES : Regional 19 to Mallee 17.
– Cookes Pools & Spas 8 (Sabrina Fitzpatrick, Glenn Leeson, Joel Bottams 2) d Mallee Bearings 3 (Hayden Wilson 3)

Mallee : Hayden Wilson, Jakob Grzan and Costa Skiadis. Cookes : Sabrina Fitzpatrick, Glenn Leeson and Joel Bottams.
This encounter was slightly more even, but with one side having most of the control over the Eleven matches.
First up saw Glenn and Jakob at opposing sides of the Table, unlike the Winter season, where they linked up in the same Team. Never the less, each were ready for battle and although neither had an overwhelming advantage, Glenn found his forehand and pulled in a 13 /11 win in the fourth to grab the win.
Hayden and Joel were next in line and even if Joel is a newie, he certainly has the ability to shake the cage of the more experienced players. They wrangled it out for five sets, with Hayden’s knowhow getting him the Chockies.
Costa is usually very consistent and has some tricky shots, but Sabrina found a way to bring the game to an end in three sets. There were some great rallies and both threw in the difficult serves, with Cookes picking up their second Rubber.
The first Doubles was between Hayden and Jakob and Sabrina and Glenn. The Mallee pair put together a super first set, which to their disappointment fell to the opposition (12/10) and from then Cookes seemed to have the answers, which now put them in a 3 to 1 lead.
Hayden and Glenn put together a five sets rumble with neither wanting to concede a game. Mallee’s number one pinched the first game in a tight (13/11), before Glenn showed what he had and marked up the following two. Mallee’s Captain fought hard to keep his team in the running, winning the last to pocket their second Rubber.
Sabrina was too strong for Jakob, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing, with Grzan pulling a sly one, to take the third game and make Cookes Captain work hard for the win.
As mentioned earlier, Joel has the shots to accumulate quite a few wins this season and his game against Costa showed just that. Another clean and confident win to Cookes number three.
With the last Doubles about to start, Cookes now sat on a very handy 5 Rubbers to 2, looking for that sixth to bring home the victory.
Hayden and Costa gave their utmost, which didn’t seem to be enough to pause the run of Glenn and Joel. It was a quick match, with the three set win landing with Cookes and giving them another rung on the Ladder to the Finals.
The last three matches saw Hayden getting over Sabrina to collect three Singles wins. Costa found Glenn’s forehand a bit tricky and wasn’t able to sneak a win and Joel put the pedal to the metal and dashed home with a good win.
WINNER : Cookes Pools and Spa’s 8 to Mallee Bearing 3.
GAMES : Cookes 29 to Mallee 11.
