– Choices Flooring Mildura 7 (Arhuang (Wong) Lau, Rohan Reimers 3) d Weightmans Packaging 4 (Wayne Carmichael, Thanh Nguyen, Lee Leeson 1)

Choices Flooring Mildura in an impressive team effort edged out ladder leader Weightmans Packaging 7-4. In all there were four five set matches all decided by the barest of margins in the fifth set indicating these two teams are evenly matched, the surprise statistic in this result was that Weightmans number one Wayne Carmichael was defeated twice which has been a rarity over his long career. He went down to fellow leftie Rohan Reimers in three close sets 11-9 12-10 11-9 an excellent scalp for Reimers. Later Choices number one Arhuang Lau fought out a classic five setter with Carmichael, both have big top spin games and this match was a highlight for the spectators. At one stage Carmichael took a two games to one lead however Lau levelled taking the fourth and in an exciting finish Lau was able to win the fifth 13-11 a top-class match.
As a result, both Reimers and Lau won three singles each and combined in the first doubles to defeat Carmichael and Thanh Nguyen 10-12 11-6 11-9 10-12 14-12 another five set thriller. An impressive effort by number two Reimers to win three singles.
– Regional Taxation Services 9 (Kate Carmichael 3, Andrew Cannard, Michael Tan 2) d Cookes Pools & Spas 2 (Reece Kurrle 2)

Regional Taxation Services have moved to the top of the ladder courtesy of their strong 9-2 victory over Cookes Pools & Spas. For the victors Kate Carmichael won three singles including a five-set struggle against opposing number one Reece Kurrle. These two always put on a top match and again they did not disappoint. After Carmichael won the first game Kurrle went into action with his power game winning the second and third comfortably, the fourth again featured Kurrle taking control and late in the game with a lead of 10-7 he held three match points however Carmichael then was able to lift and amazingly clawed her way back to save the match and level at two games all. Kurrle then knowing he had missed an opportunity, struggled in the fifth and Carmichael had recovered to win 11-6 6-11 7-11 13-11 11-7, a marathon.
Carmichael’s number two Andrew Cannard continued his consistent form winning two singles as well as combining with Carmichael to win the first doubles. The big story though was the form of RTS number three Michael Tan who also won two singles, this being a first for him since being promoted from pennant two this season.
Firstly, he was able to defeat Liam Wood in four sets which is a very good win and in the last match he was able to defeat Duy Truong in five sets, this was a first given he had not defeated Truong in the past. In a strong display he also combined with skipper Carmichael to win the second doubles.
– Tankard Dental 6 (Jamie Kealley 3, Mark Dorman 2) d Mallee Bearings 5 (Jackson Tung 2, Paul Kealley, Ashley Morrison 1)

The final match proved to be the closest of the round with Tankard Dental fighting back to defeat Mallee Bearings 6-5 despite trailing early in the match. With this victory Tankard Dental bumped their opponents out of the four.
Mallee Bearings started strongly courtesy of Jackson Tung winning two singles early and then combining with Paul Kealley to defeat Jamie Kealley and Mark Dorman in four sets in the first doubles. Later when Paul Kealley accounted for Ed Hung in four sets the Bearings team had taken a four-three lead.
At this point Tankard Dental jumped into action taking the next three matches all amazingly in five sets. Firstly, the match was levelled up at four rubbers all when
Jamie Kealley and Ed Hung defeated Tung and Ash Morrison in the second doubles 11-8 in the fifth. In the battle of the number ones, Tankard’s Jamie Kealley was out of the blocks early taking the first two games before Bearings Jackson Tung struck back to level winning the third and fourth, the action had been outstanding both have an aggressive game and defend just as well. In the fifth Kealley was able to grab the ascendancy, and he was able to score an impressive win 11-9 11-4 8-11 11-13 11-8 a top-class affair.
With the four points on the line Tankard number two Mark Dorman took to the table against opposite number two Paul Kealley and of course this was a further five set slog, Kealley took the first while Dorman grabbed the second and third. Both players are lefties and in the fourth Kealley was able to retain control with some of his unorthodox drives to level the match at two games all. Dorman was focussed in the fifth and very steady as usual managing to break away to take the match and bank the four points for his team Tankard Dental.
Tankard number one Jamie Kealley had won three singles in the victory, the first time this season while Dorman played well to win two singles. Teammate Ed Hung played his part in the victory by teaming with skipper Kealley to win the vital second doubles.

– Tankard Dental 7 (Josh Arnold 3. Kym Sykes 2) d Weightmans Packaging 4 (Kevin Johns 2, Steve Parker, Andrew Kremor 1)

Tankard Dental consolidated top spot on the team’s ladder this week with a seven rubbers to four win against Kevin Johns’ Weightmans Packaging side.
The pairing of captain Josh Arnold and number two Kym Sykes dominated the night – Arnold won three singles rubbers, Sykes two, and Tankard Dental took both doubles rubbers.
Leading three rubbers to one after four played, they had the game won after the ninth contest.
Arnold in particular was untroubled, as he won all his singles matches in the minimum three sets. He was only kept at the table a bit longer in the doubles contests. He and Sykes had to come from two sets to love down to defeat Johns and Steve Parker; and in the second doubles Arnold and his number three Juan Castro were too good for Johns and Andrew Kremor, winning in four sets.
Castro was kept winless in singles play on the night, so that contributed three of Weightmans Packaging’s rubbers, and Kevin Johns also defeated Sykes, in straight sets.
Final scores: Tankard Dental won 7 rubbers to 4 and 22 games to 17.
– Pinnacle Packers 6 (Therese Fitzpatrick 3, James Jarvis 2) d Mallee Meats 5 (Quentin Clark 2, Deegan Kerslake, Jamie Stanley 1)

Pinnacle Packers won this very close match against Mallee Meats. They have both now won two matches, and lost two and sit second (Mallee Meats) and third (Pinnacle Packers) on the ladder.
Therese Fitzpatrick was the stand-out player in the match. She won her three singles contests, and with James Jarvis the first doubles. Of note, though, is that all her singles wins were in five sets. Mallee Meats number two Deegan Kerslake led two sets to one, only for Therese to roll home 11-6, 11-6 in the final two sets; Jamie Stanley proved worrisome – it seems that one end of the table was guaranteed to give the win in any
given set. Fitzpatrick won the first 11-4, Stanley the second 13-11, Fitzpatrick the third 11-8, Stanley the fourth 11-7, and crucially Fitzpatrick led the fifth when they changed ends, and so went on to win that set, and the match, 11-7. Quentin Clark led two sets to love in the ninth rubber, 11-8, 11-9. Therese’s game then kicked in and she took the last three sets 11-9, 11-6, 11-5.
In winning two singles rubbers, James Jarvis proved to be a good back-up to his captain. He too had trouble with the number three from Mallee Meats, Jamie Stanley. Jarvis won the first two sets comfortably 11-5, 11-7, but then Stanley turned the tables winning the next two 11-8, 11-5. Jarvis gathered himself up to take the fifth 11-8.
For Mallee Meats, Clark, Kerslake and Stanley all defeated the Pinnacle Packers number three Koby Grace, and Clark was relatively untroubled to defeat Jarvis in four sets.
Final scores: Pinnacle Packers won 6 rubbers to 5 and 23 games to 24.
– Sammy’s Slammers 6 (Marcus Cimino, Andrew Jones 2, Ryan Hensgen 1) d Dunkley Scales 5 (Rasin Bhuiyan 3, Chris Cen 1)

Sammy’s Slammers lifted themselves from the bottom of the ladder, and into fourth spot by virtue of this win over Dunkley Scales.
Sammy’s Slammers were without their captain Daniel Jansen and number three Yen Hwak, and these players were replaced by Marcus Cimino and Andrew Jones respectively.
The two replacement players for Sammy’s Slammers won the first two rubbers – Jones in four sets over Dunkley Scales number two Chris Cen; and Cimino and easy win against the Dunkley Scales number three Sam Campbell.
Dunkley Scales responded, winning the next two rubbers – captain Rasin Bhuiyan and easy winner against Ryan Hensgen, and a very entertaining doubles contest in which Bhuiyan and Cen found themselves two sets to love down against Cimino and Hensgen 6-11, 13-15. A big third set 13-11 saw them avoid a three set loss, and they then went on with it take the last two sets 11-6, 11-8.
Cimino took Sammy’s Slammers third rubber for the night with a win against Cen; and Bhuiyan recorded Dunkley Scales third with a similar straight sets win against Jones.
Sammy’s Slammers won the next two rubbers, both in three sets, but three close sets. Hensgen took a close one against Campbell 12-10, 11-7, 12-10 and the second doubles was similar; Cimino and Jones edging Bhuiyan and Campbell 11-9, 12-10, 11-9.
Score now five rubbers to three to Sammy’s Slammers.
Dunkley Scales evened the score in the next two rubbers – Bhuiyan defeated stand-in captain Cimino in four sets, and Cen, after dropping the first set did the same to Hensgen.
So the outcome of the match was left to the two number three’s, and Andrew Jones outlasted Sam Campbell to win in five to give Sammy’s Slammers the win.
Final scores: Sammy’s Slammers won 6 rubbers to 5 and 22 games to 18.
