Each team has now played each other once and in round five Mallee Bearings recorded their first win when skipper Arhuang Lau won three singles with his five-set win over Jamie Kealley a real highlight. Other outstanding five set matches over this round featured Paul Kealley and Jason Gifkins, Thanh Nguyen and Russell Walder while lefties Wayne Carmichael and Rohan Reimers played an outstanding match.
– Regional Taxation Services 6 (Jamie Kealley, Rohan Reimers 2, Lee Leeson 1) d Weightmans Packaging 5 (Wayne Carmichael 2, Andrew Cannard 1)
Ladder leaders Regional Taxation Services scored an amazing victory against Weightmans Packaging despite trailing 2-5 at one stage. The win came despite skipper Jackson Tung being away representing Victoria in New Zealand. He was replaced by sub-Jamie Kealley, Weightmans included Andrew Cannard in their team to replace the absent Mark Dorman. Weightmans started well to take a 3-1 lead after Wayne Carmichael and Andrew Cannard outlasted Jamie Kealley and Rohan Reimers in the first doubles, 11-8 8-11 11-8 6-11 11-9 a top-class affair!

Weightmans later in the match were able to gain momentum with Reimers defeating both Cannard and Ed Hung while Jamie Kealley and Wayne Carmichael then played a first class match which went to five sets, young Kealley grabbed the early ascendancy taking the first two games narrowly with some powerful table tennis while Carmichael then lifted with some amazing forehands of his own to win the third and fourth games. The fifth was a thriller with the experienced Carmichael able to get to a 7-4 lead before Kealley was able to then comeback and record an exciting win 13-11 11-8 6-11 8-11 11-9, this was Kealley’s best win for the season and the first loss for Carmichael in the three rounds he has played. Kealley had showed great maturity given the scores were locked at five rubbers all when they took to the table.
Earlier RTS number three Lee Leeson also recorded an important win over Ed Hung in four sets. This win enabled Regional Taxation Services to grab the four points and keep their undefeated record intact.
– Cookes Pools & Spas 6 (Kate Carmichael 3, Paul Kealley, Ashley Morrison 1) d Tankard Dental 5 (Shannon Bowen, Reece Kurrle 2)

After suffering their first loss last round Cookes Pools & Spas bounced back this week to defeat the tough Tankard Dental combination in another close encounter. The 6-5 win came from a solid team performance with Kate Carmichael winning three singles while both teammates, Paul Kealley and Ash Morrison won an important singles each. Morrison was able to overcome opponent Jason Gifkins when the scores were locked at five rubbers all to bank the four points for Cookes.

Included in Carmichael’s three singles victories was a three-set win over Tankard’s Shannon Bowen; this win has enabled Carmichael to take a lead of one from Bowen in the singles aggregate after five rounds.
– Mallee Bearings 8 (Arhuang (Wong) Lau 3, Gavin Carmichael 2, Russell Walder 1) d Choices Flooring Mildura 3 (Jamie Kealley 2, Thanh Nguyen 1)
The remaining match featured Choices Flooring Mildura versus Mallee Bearings who were both battling for their first victory of the season and the key player in this contest proved to be Mallee Bearings captain Arhuang Lau who proved to be the match winner for his team. Not only did he win his three singles, the first time he has managed to do this in the first five rounds, he also played in both winning doubles.

Included in Lau’s three singles wins was an amazing five set clash with Jamie Kealley. This was a long match containing some outstanding forehand and backhand drives from both players, late in the match it looked like Kealley would win however Lau remained calm to save several match points and then take the match 16-14 in the exciting fifth.
Lau received good support from teammates, fill in Gavin Carmichael and Russell Walder who won two and one singles respectively in the 8-3 victory.

Weightmans Packaging 7 Rasin Bhuiyan (3), Andrew Jones (0), Shane Carmichael (2) defeated Choices Flooring Mildura 4 Therese Fitzpatrick (2), Josh Arnold (1), (Shiva Rottela (1).
In round 5, Weightmans fended off a coordinated attack from Choices Flooring and, thanks in no small part to fill-in Shane Carmichael, pulled off a solid 7-4 win.
The first game saw Rottela and Jones play off, with Jones narrowly winning the first set 15-13, only for Rottela to double down in the next two, winning 11-9, 11-8. The two fought it out in the fourth set, with Jones again barely clenching the victory 12-10, and then bringing it home in the fifth 11-8. In the next game, youth prevailed over experience as veteran player Shane Carmichael went down in straight sets to Fitzpatrick, 4-11, 9-11, 8-11. Bhuiyan who has had a somewhat rough start to this season, was in top form this evening, winning all three of his singles, starting with Arnold, whom he defeated in four, 11-7, 14-12, 5-11, 11-4. The two sides then duked it out in the first doubles with Weightmans winning the first set 12-10, Choices Flooring coming down hard in the second and third, 11-3, 11-9, but Weightmans hung on until the end and grabbed the last two 11-8, 11-4.
The score sitting at 2-2, Fitzpatrick gave her team a nudge in the right direction by downing Jones in three sets 11-5, 11-6, 11-6, but this was followed by series of losses which would cost Choices the night’s victory. Bhuiyan soundly defeated Rottela with little difficulty, 11-2, 11-3, 11-4, while Arnold went up against Carmichael and try though he did, he couldn’t topple the P1 veteran, losing in four 7-11, 11-6, 10-12, 9-11. With Weightmans now inching ahead at 4-3, it was time for Choices Flooring to shut them down. Fitzpatrick and Rottela played well in the night’s second doubles but failed to take the win, going down after another five-set scrap, 11-5, 8-11, 11-9, 5-11, 3-11.

Finally, at 5 rubbers to 3, Bhuiyan secured the victory in a tense five-setter against Fitzpatrick. The former started off strong, winning the first two sets 11-6, 11-7, but then Fitzpatrick came alive and won the next two 11-9, 11-7, but she couldn’t quite nab the fifth set, losing 6-11. The last two games saw Arnold take on Jones and win in straight sets 11-4, 11-7, 11-3, and Carmichael taking another scalp in Rottela, winning in four sets, 11-8, 12-14, 12-10, 11-8.
Final score 7 rubbers to 4 and 23 games to 21.
Pinnacle Packers 6 Duy Truong (3), Peter Midgley (1), Steve Parker (1) defeated Sammy’s Slammers 5 Quentin Clark (2), James Jarvis (2), Ryan Hensgen (0).
Pinnacle Packers, who sit at second place on the ladder, fended off a strong attack from fourth-placed Sammy’s Slammers, who missed out on the win by a very slim 6-5 result.
Midgley and Hensgen were up first, and although the later took the first set 11-8, Midgely came out swinging in the later sets, ultimately winning 11-5, 11-7, 11-2. Parker then tried his hand at besting Clark, coming very close in the first set with a 14-16 loss, and then going down in the last two sets 9-11, 10-12. Captain Truong was his usual indomitable self, taking down Jarvis comfortably 11-4, 11-5, 11-5. The two teams then went back and forth in first doubles match, with neither team willing to cede the
game until Packers just nudged ahead to win in the fifth, 13-11, 9-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9, putting the score at 3-1 in their favour.
Clark however, refused to budge an inch, taking out another straight-sets win, this time against Midgely, 11-7, 11-4, 11-5. Truong responded to this by defeating Hensgen, 11-7, 11-4, 10-12, and Jarvis got his first win on the board by defeating Parker, 11-9, 11-3, 11-8. The second doubles saw the Sammys get the better of Packers and after another tough five-set bout, they took the win, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8, 13-15, 11-6, levelling the score 4-4.

The matchup of Clark and Truong would prove another exhilarating contest with the two trading vicious blows to secure the fifth rubber. Clark struck first blood, winning the first 11-9, Truong then opening the taps in the second and third 11-7, 11-6, and Clark swooping in to win in the fourth 11-5. But he ran out of firepower in the fifth, going down to Truong a dissapointing 1-11. The score then sat at 5-4, Packers’ way as Jarvis and Midgely decided to get in on the five-set action. Jarvis got a solid lead, winning the first two sets, 11-8, 11-8, but Midgley stuck it out and took the next two 14-12, 11-6, only for Jarvis to rise victorious in the fifth, 11-7, bringing them to a tiebreaker at 5-5. Said tiebreaker would prove a more one-sided affair, as try though he did, Hensgen was defeated by a steady Parker in straight sets, 13-11, 11-5, 12-10.
Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 22 games to 20.

Great to see Sabrina Fitzpatrick back at the table and winning two singles as a fill in for Weightmans.
– Cookes Pools & Spas 6 (Peter Fitzpatrick 2, Koby Grace, Yen Hwak 1) d Exposed Signage/Apparel 5 (Chris Cen 3, Karly Leach, Hayden Wilson 1)
Cookes Pools & Spas have claimed a hard-fought 6–5 victory over Exposed Signage & Apparel in round 5 of pennant three matches, edging ahead on games 25–21 in a tightly contested night of table tennis. With this win Cookes have moved to first on the ladder knocking their opponents from the top perch to second. Both teams have now won four matches and lost one
The match was evenly poised throughout, with both teams trading rubbers and refusing to give an inch. Cookes Pools & Spas were led by a strong overall team performance, with each player contributing at key moments to keep the scoreboard ticking over. It was the doubles that proved to be the difference with Cookes winning both in four sets.
Victory came to Cookes despite Exposed number two Chris Cen again winning three singles for the Exposed team while teammates Karly Leach and Hayden Wilson won one each. Chris had his hands full with both number three Yen Hwak and Koby Grace defeating each in lengthy five setters after trailing one game to two in both. His victory against Koby indicated a top match 18-16 11-13 9-11 11-6 11-8.

Exposed skipper Peter Fitzpatrick enjoyed a successful night and was instrumental, featuring in two crucial singles wins and combining well in both doubles victories with both Koby and Yen to help swing momentum his team’s way. Yen Hwak added further depth, stepping up to defeat opposing number one Karly Leach in another amazing five setter where he scored 11 points in each of the five games, he won 11-5 11-13 11-6 11-13 11-6 and in doing so ensured Cookes maintained their narrow edge.
Exposed Signage & Apparel pushed their opponents all the way, however this round it wasn’t to be and they were on the wrong side of the scoreline for the first time this season.
In the end, it was Cookes Pools & Spas’ ability to win the key points in the tight moments that proved decisive, securing a narrow but well-earned victory in one of the closest matches of the round.
– Weightmans Packaging 6 (Sabrina Fitzpatrick, Nhat Dat 2) d Regional Taxation Services 5 (Andrew Kremor 3, Brenden Johnson. Curtis Crabtree 1)
Weightmans Packaging made a fast start in this match leading three to one and then four to two early to stamp their authority on the contest, opponents Regional Taxation Services battled hard to recover but could not bridge that deficit with Weightmans Packaging scoring a 6-5 victory and banking the four points for the first time this season.

Weightman’s pair Nhat Dat and sub Sabrina Fitzpatrick enabled their team to get off to a flyer. Nhat won the first singles defeating Curtis Crabtree while Sabrina accounted for the hard-hitting Brenden Johnson in four sets.
The first doubles was vital to both teams and it was Nhat Dat and Sabrina who came out on top against Andrew Kremor and Brenden in four sets 15-17 11-3 11-8 15-13 a great tussle. With their team struggling at 1-3 RTS skipper Andrew then accounted for Nhat Dat in straight sets while Sabrina then increased the lead for Weightmans Packaging to 4-2 with a straight sets win over Curtis.
Brenden then reduced the deficit for Regional Taxation Services by defeating Matt Sires in four sets. Matt then combined with skipper Nhat Dat to win the second doubles over Andrew and Curtis to enable Weightmans to take a five-three lead.
By winning his third singles Andrew Kremor moved to the top of the singles aggregate, his win over Sabrina came in straight sets and kept RTS alive however opposing skipper Nhat Dat then banked the four points for his team for the first time this season when he accounted for Brenden in straight sets. This was Nhat Dats second singles victory for the night, the same as team-mate Sabrina Fitzpatrick.
Regional Taxation Services number three Curtis then improved the score to 5-6 with his singles win over Matt Sires a great battle with Curtis winning 11-9 11-13 11-8 11-9.
In the end it was the doubles which proved to be the difference, both were won by Weightmans.

PENNANT FOUR:
Happy Easter to everyone, stay safe on the roads, be kind and enjoy the break.
Round five was once again a good one for Tankard Dental, coming away with a very convincing win, to put them two wins ahead of the remaining three teams, who are all now sitting on two wins.
| Win | Loss | Pts | Rubbers | Games | % | % | |||

| Weightmans Packaging | 2 | 3 | 8 | 23 | 32 | 94 | 113 | 72% | 83% |
This round was also a nightmare for the Grading committee, with five fill in’s required.
– Tankard Dental 8 (Darren Bottams, Tom Gilmour 3, Jake Hines 1) d Dunkley Scales 3 (Eddy Parker, Maria Starikov 1)
Dunkley : Rodney Galvin (Fill in – Eddie Parker), Maria Starikov and Andrew Jeffries (Fill in – Raylee Waugh). Tankard Dental : The only team not needed a fill in – Tom Gilmour, Darren Bottoms and Jake Hines).
The first group of Singles was loaded with Tankard wins. Jake was on top of his game this week and this saw him mark up his teams first Rubber, after a four set beauty against Raylee. Jake didn’t take the first set, but he turned on the burners in the next three, making the hill to high to climb for Raylee.
Darren took a little bit to warm to his return to Table Tennis, but has been improving with every week and this shone threw with his three set win over Eddie.
Tom and Maria are pretty much on a Par with their games, with Maria winning their last clash, but it wasn’t to be this time around. Maria started off in a blaze of glory, with Tom only accumulating one point. The following two sets were under Tom’s control, with the final set producing a 12/10 battle, going Tom’s way.
Maria and Raylee were no match for Tom and Darren in the first Doubles, with a straight sets win going to Tankard, giving them a four to zero Rubbers lead.

Eddie had the wood on Jake, from the first hit and it was a lighting fast win to Dunkley and their first Rubber.
The Dunkley flow didn’t last long though, with Tankard plugging up the leak and getting back to business, capturing the next two matches, after Tom and Darren flew through their games against Raylee and Maria.
Unfortunately this was not the news Dunkley wanted, as the night had now fallen to Tankard Dental, with them now reaching the magic 6 Rubbers, with three singles and a Doubles still to be played.
Maria and Eddie were a good combination in the Doubles and Tom and Jake couldn’t find a way to work get on top, giving Dunkley a little to smile about.
Tom wasn’t about to let Eddie get the advantage in their encounter and although there were frequent rallies, Tom still had the edge, marking up his third single win, to hold top spot on the Aggregate Ladder.
Jake couldn’t find his form from the first game and Maria took full advantage of this, adding a little respectability to Dunkley’s score.
The last match saw Raylee struggling to make any ground, when she came up against Darren, with another of Tankard team pocketing three individual singles.
WINNER : Tankard Dental 8 to Dunkley Scales 3.
GAMES : 24 to 11
The next tussle was very close, coming down to the last Rubber, with one team only having one of it’s permanent players.
– Weightmans Packaging 6 (Eddy Parker, Jakob Grzan, Costa Skiadis 2) d Mallee Meats 5 (Kym Sykes 3)
Mallee : Kym Sykes, Nathan Beard and Gary Leach (Fill in – Jenny Leach).
Weightmans : Glenn Leeson (Fill in – Eddie Parker), Jakob Grzan and Conner Burnett (Fill in – Costa Skidas).
Although Jakob was the only original, Weightmans fielded a strong team and Jakob was back in form, which helped their cause.
Nathan gave Jakob a very good run for his money, but after four sets, Weightmans collected the Rubber.
Kym was a level above Costa and eased his way to a win, with some overcoming some tricky shots.

Eddie must have been taking lessons on his break, as he trounced Jen in his first win of the night, putting the score at Weightmans one ahead.
Kym and Nathan took on Maria and Jakob, in the first Doubles, with Mallee clear winners of the first two sets easily, before Weightmans pair fired up. The third set went out to 13/11, but it wasn’t quite enough to turn the tide and Mallee were able to pull in a great three set win, to bring things back to level.
Jakob put the pressure on Kym in the match, taking the first set, 17/15, before Mallee’s number one player, put the pedal to the metal, finishing it off in four sets.
Nathan and Eddie’s match was over flowing with exciting Rallies with neither ready to give an inch. The advantage in the five setter see sawed all the way through, until Eddie grabbed the last few points to mark in another Rubber for Weightman’s.
Jenny wrangled it out against Costa, but the night wasn’t bringing any luck her way, with Costa producing some slippery shots, which allowed him to take control and win in four.
With the Rubbers now four to three, in Weightmans favour, Mallee had to lift, before their chances drifted away.
It was Kym and Jen who were to face Eddie and Costa, which saw the latter take the first set. With a bit of team work, Mallee were able to baffle their opposition and notch up a Rubber to steady the ship.
Kym, is definitely the life saver in Mallee’s team and once again he was able to bring home his third singles win, this time defeating Eddie in three sets.
For the first time in the night, the advantage now sat with Mallee and the pressure was on Jenny as she stepped up to take on Jakob. He closed in quickly in the first set with a comfortable win. Jen fought hard and nabbed the second, but the game was always in the hands of young Jakob, who grabbed the Rubber and levelled the scores.
