– Cookes Pools & Spas 6 (Arhuang (Wong) Lau 3, Russell Walder 2, Jason Gifkins 1) d Choices Flooring Mildura 5 (Jackson Tung 2, Liam Wood 1)
A further top class match saw Cooke’s Jason Gifkins with his team tied at five rubbers all score an outstanding five set win over Ashley Morrison, Gifkins took a two love lead early and Morrison bounced back to narrowly take both the third and fourth games. Late in the fifth Morrison held the advantage before a late edge and then a final net allowed Gifkins to win 11-6 11-9 10-12 10-12 12-10 , a thriller.

Gifkins win enabled second placed Cooke’s Pools and Spas to move one game clear at the head of the ladder while opponents Choices Flooring Mildura have now dropped from first to third one game back . Quentin Clark winning three two and one singles respectively. For the past three rounds Dorman and Kealley have barely lost a singles match and RTS are now proving they are able to match it with any team.
For Tankard Dental fill in Andrew Cannard was the best performer winning two singles.
– Weightmans Packaging 8 (Jamie Kealley 3, Marcus Cimino, Rohan Reimers 2) d Mallee Bearings 3 (Kate Carmichael 2)
With their 8-3 victory over Mallee Bearings , Weightmans Packaging have moved to second place on the congested ladder. As mentioned earlier Jamie Kealley was in superb form and he won three singles for the third time this season to move one behind the aggregate leader with two rounds to play. Kealley’s reliable team mate Rohan Reimers offered great support winning two singles while number three

Marcus Cimino enjoyed a successful night winning two singles , his best return since back in round one.
With two rounds to play it appears the teams in the top four are settled however the order of these teams is far from decided with only two wins separating all four teams.

Maccas Player of the round: James Jarvis
Weightmans Packaging 7 Rasin Bhuiyan (2), Michael Tan (2), Steve Parker (1) defeated Cookes Pools & Spas 4 Duy Truong (2), Andrew Jones (2), Michael Hensgen/Karly Leach (0).
Cookes took a harsh blow in round 8, going down to Weightmans Packaging 7-4. Cookes were short both their No. 2 and 3 players, so Andrew Jones substituted for David Sergi while both Karly Leach and Michael Hensgen filled in for Deegan Kerslake.

Substitute Jones did his job well for Cookes, racking up two singles wins, the first of which was a tight five-setter against Parker. Jones ran away with the first two sets 11-6, 11-4, Parker regrouped and won the next two 11-4, 11-8 but Jones got under Parker’s skin in the end, taking the fifth set 11-3. Bhuiyan then took his first win for the night, defeating Hensgen soundly 11-3, 11-5, 11-5. The next match was something of an upset for Cookes wherein Tan took down Truong in another five-setter, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 8-11, 12-10, putting Weightmans ahead at 2-1. Bhuiyan and Tan then continued to surge ahead, taking the first doubles match 11-7, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7.
Bhuiyan then made the score 4-1 with his second singles win, besting Jones 11-5, 11-4, 11-6. Skipper Truong attempted to weather the storm that was Weightmans, taking out Parker 11-4, 11-7, 11-5 but teammate Hensgen could go little against Tan, going down in three 5-11, 10-12, 2-11, putting Weightmans in sight of victory at 5-2. Cookes then pulled out all the stops in their attempt to slow their opponents down. In the second doubles, Cookes pair Truong and Leach nabbed the first set 11-9, then Weightmans cut in, winning the second and third 11-7, 11-9. Cookes continued to fight, taking the fourth 11-6 but Weightmans beat them back in the fifth, winning 11-9 and securing their sixth rubber in the process.
Despite the loss, Cookes got a few more wins on the board before the night was over. Truong and Bhuiyan had a good tussle, with the latter winning in four 6-11, 11-4, 11-6, 12-10 and then Tan took Jones to five sets but couldn’t topple him, going down 12-10, 11-9, 9-11, 8-11, 9-11.

Then in the last rubber Parker took on Leach in another five-set match to round out the evening. Leach just nabbed the first set 14-12, Parker got the second 11-6, Leach struck back and won the third 11-7 but Parker had what it took, and he won the last two sets 11-9, 11-9.
Final score 7 rubbers to 4 and 26 games to 19.
Pinnacle Packers 7 Josh Arnold (2), James Jarvis (2), Ryan Hensgen (2) defeated Mallee Meats 4 Harry Gujral (1), Therese Fitzpatrick (2), Nhat Dat (0).
Fourth-placed Pinnacle Packers put on a fine show in round 8, with all three players taking two singles wins and a doubles, culminating in an unexpected loss for second-placed Mallee Meats.
Fitzpatrick started the evening well, defeating Jarvis in five sets 12-10, 9-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6. Gujral continued the advance, besting Hensgen 11-7, 11-6, 11-6 and it was at this point that Packers awoke and started to clap back. Arnold led the charge by downing Dat 11-9, 11-5, 6-11, 11-9 and then he and Jarvis took down Gujral and Fitzpatrick in the first doubles, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7.

Jarvis then made the score 3-2 Packers’ way by defeating Gujral. He laid into Gujral in the first two sets 11-9, 11-8, Gujral recovered slightly in the third 12-10 but Jarvis took him down in the fourth 11-7. Fitzpatrick levelled the score in her match against Arnold losing the first set 6-11, and then powering through to victory, 11-8, 12-10, 11-7. Hensgen and Dat then battled each other in a five-setter with the former coming out on top, 11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 5-11, 12-10. The second doubles was an important match for both sides. If Packers won it, they would be 5-3 up, but Meats wouldn’t let it go that easily and won the game in four sets 12-10, 11-9, 11-8, 12-10, keeping themselves in the running at 4-4.
Packers then shifted into high gear for the remaining three rubbers, throwing everything they had at their opponents. Arnold got the drop on Gujral 11-8, 11-7, Gujral fought back 11-5, 11-8, but Arnold vanquished him in the fifth 11-7. With the score now 5-4, Jarvis took out the winning sixth rubber by defeating Dat 11-7, 11-9, 11-6,

then teammate Hensgen made it 7-4 by taking down Fitzpatrick in what was another unexpected loss for her, 7-11, 16-14, 13-11, 11-9.
Final score 7 rubbers to 4 and 25 games to 20.

PENNANT THREE:
Round 8 was a round of missing players with six of our regulars unavailable resulting in one match being a two versus two contest due to a lack of fill-ins.
On the ladder front Sammys Slammers remain two games clear of Regional Taxation Services at the top end while third and fourth are a further win back from RTS on three wins.

Maccas Player of the round: Samantha Campbell

Sam Campbell continues to lead the singles aggregate with Karly Leach running second four wins away while Koby Grace is in third position. All won three singles this round.
– Sammy’s Slammers 8 (Sam Campbell, Koby Grace 3, Dianne Hannig 1) d Mallee Meats 3 (Brenden Johnson, Rodney Galvin 1)

Slammers number three Leanne Wilson still out with an injury was replaced by Dianne Hannig while Mallee Meats skipper Sabrina Fitpatrick was replaced by Rod Galvin.
The Slammers proved too strong for the fourth placed Mallee Meats winning 8-3. For the victors both Sam Campell and Koby Grace won three singles. Sam has had a very consistent season while Koby had an excellent start, a slight lull in the middle and now is back to some excellent form.

Koby’s match against the Meats number two Brenden Johnson was a real highlight with both players keen to grab the win. Koby took the first before Brenden dominated the second and took the third narrowly. The fourth was another nailbiter and this time it was Koby’s turn to take this game by the narrowest of margins to level at two games all. Koby was able to draw away in the fifth to go on and win 11-6 1-11 9-11 13-11 11-6 ,well played by both players.
The second doubles was another lengthy match when Slammers pair Sam and fill-in Dianne combined to defeat Rod Galvin and Hayden Wilson 11-6 10-12 11-9 8-11 11-9, a thriller. With two rounds to play Sammy’s Slammers look secure in first position. If Mallee Meats remain fourth these two teams will again meet in the first knockout semi-final.
Winner: Sammy’s Slammers 8 defeated Mallee Meats 3
Games: 26 to 14
– Regional Taxation Services 5 (Karly Leach 3, Leo Parker 1) d Exposed Signage/Apparel 4 (Michael Hensgen, Jackson Solimo 2)
Due to several outs, this match was unfortunately a two player versus two player contest. While Cooper Kalms was out of the Regional Taxation Services team, for different reasons the whole team of Steve Pongrac, Nick Kiapekos and Curtis Crabtree were unavailable for the Exposed team.
To make up a two-man team Michael Hensgen and new player from last round Jackson Solimo came in to the Exposed team in what proved to be a very close contest.
Before a ball was hit each player was allocated a singles win each for the missing opponent, the match overall would consist of nine rubbers with no second doubles or the singles match not played where the two players were missing.
The promising Jackson Solimo started well for the Exposed team showing he will be a good addition to the STTA, he was able to defeat Leo Parker in straight sets, later Jackson started well against the experienced Karly Leach going down narrowly in the first and second before Karly took control to win 11-8 11-9 11-3.

The two matches which would decide the four points involved the two number one players Karly and Michael. Their singles match was a ripper !! with Karly fighting back from a one-two game deficit to win in five sets, the final score line 13-11 9-11 4-11 11-5 11-9. A great battle in what could have gone either way, Karly won 48 points to Michael’s 47.

In a busy night Karly and Michael also played a couple of games each in pennant two which resulted in the doubles being played last in this match. The pressure was on as after all the singles matches possible the score stood at four rubbers all.
RTS pair Karly and Leo were out of the blocks quickly taking the first game comfortably before Michael and Jackson fought back to take the second, the third and fourth games were a real tussle and point for point however Karly and Leo were able to maintain the edge and would go on to win in a close tussle 11-3 7-11 12-10 12-10.
In the washup this meant that Regional Taxation Services had taken the points 5-4 in the abbreviated match and in doing so retained second position on the ladder.
Apart from her double’s success, Karly also won three singles while Michael Hensgen and Jackson Solimo won two singles each for the Exposed team.
Winner: Regional Taxation Services 5 defeated Exposed Signage/Apparel 4

Maccas Player of the round: Nathan Beard

– Mallee Meats 7 (Yen Hwak 3, Nathan Beard 2, Conner Burnett 1) d Weightmans Packaging 4 (Tom Gilmour 2, Eddy Parker 1)
Weightman’s – Tom Gilmour, Eddy Parker and Liam Milton (Fill in – Jakob Grzan). Mallee – Yen Hwak, Nathan Beard and Conner Burnett.
Mallee took a two to one lead after the first set of Singles, with Nathan getting the better of Eddy in the opening match. Eddy seemed to have the advantage picking up the first two, but Nathan put the pedal down and grabbed the next three. (9/11, 5/11, 11/8, 11/9, 12/10)
Tom made short work of Conner, in the second match, with both throwing in some curly shots. (11/5, 11/5, 11/3).
Yen was given the next match on a forfeit, due to Liam’s absence and Jakob only filling in for 1 Singles and a Doubles.
Yen and Nathan pulled in another Rubber for Mallee, when they came up against Tom and Eddie in the first Doubles. The match did stretch out to four sets, but the Weightman’s pair couldn’t match Mallee’s fire power. (7/11, 11/7, 11/4, 11/9).
Nathan and Tom had a good tussle, which went the distance. After numerous rallies, Tom took control and reduced the shortfall for Weightman’s. (11/9, 4/11, 4/11, 11/5, 11/8).
Eddy fought hard, but was consumed by Yen’s back hand speed, in their clash, which notched up a fourth Rubber for Mallee. (11/7, 11/5, 11/8).
With the forfeit now giving Conner the points and additional Rubber, it meant Mallee only needed one more win to take mark up another victory.
Yen and Conner pushed the second Doubles out to four sets, against Tom and Jakob, with the third game a doozy, going out to 16. But Weightman’s did , enough to hold on and delay the inevitable (11/7, 2/11, 16/14, 11/6).

It’s debatable if anyone will now break through Yen’s game, with Tom only able to hold on for three sets. Mallee’s Captain nailed home the required Rubber, to bring it home for his team and to give him a third Singles win. (11/6, 11/4, 11/8).

Jakob was having a great night, so it wouldn’t have surprised, if he had won against Nathan. They had an interesting skirmish, with long rallies, which fell in favour of Nathan after four sets (8/11, 11/6, 11/5, 11/8).
The last match helped Weightman’s with their score line, after Eddy had a three set win over Conner (11/5, 11/3, 11/8).
WINNER : Mallee Meats 7 to Weightman’s Packaging 4.
GAMES : 24 to 16.
– Dunkley Scales 10 (Glenn Leeson, Jakob Grzan 3, Jenny Leach 2) d Tankard Dental 1 (Maria Starikov 1)
Tankard – Maria Starikov, Ildi Healy and Andrew Jeffries. Dunkley – Glenn Leeson, Jen Leach and Jakob Grazan.
Dunkley took a commanding lead in this encounter, with Tankard not being able to snatch a match win until after the first Doubles.
Andrew and Jen took to the Table first up, with Andrew giving it his best, but wasn’t able to get a good run, which proved to be a win for Dunkley’s number two. (11/5, 11/3, 11/5).

Jakob put in an amazing contest against Tankards Captain, Maria, with the first two games very tight, but he finished off with confidence, for a great win (13/11, 12/10, 11/4).
Ildi then had to try and find something to help out her team, but she was up against Glenn, which was going to be a big ask. Dunkley’s Captain played a very impressive match, to end it in three sets and give his team the Rubber. (11/3, 11/4, 11/3).
The first Doubles was pretty even, with Maria and Ildi giving Glenn and Jen a good run for their money, in three tough sets. Dunkley did gain the win, but Tankard certainly put on the pressure. (11/9, 12/10, 11/9).
Jen did her darndest to get a win against Maria, with the first two games point for point, but as Maria usual does, she pulled out her brick wall and brought the match to a sudden halt, giving Tankard their first Rubber for the night. (12/10, 12/10, 11/5).
Andrew didn’t have the game to match Glenn, with their three sets being completed very quickly. (11/5, 11/0, 11/1).
Ildi would normally have taken the win from Jakob, but his skills have exceeded even his own expectations this season. Ildi snuck in to take the first game, but Dunkley’s number three keeps the pressure on, with his perfect forehand and determination. He not only won, he brought home the sixth Rubber for Dunkley to take the overall win for the night. (8/11, 11/6, 11/8, 11/8).
Maria and Andrew were strong in the second Doubles making Glenn and Jakob have to fight for their win (11/6, 11/9, 13/11).
The first five set match came when Maria and Glenn fought it out. The games see sawed between players and neither had an outright advantage. But in the end Glenn found a way to mark up the win and his third singles win. (11/8, 8/11, 11/8, 6/11, 11/9).

Ildi and Jen produced an exciting five set match, with every set going point for point. Its always fairly even between these two and this was no different. After the third set, Ildi lead by one, with neither wanting to give an inch. It was a sigh of relief from Jen, when she somehow took the next two sets. (12/10, 11/9, 11/5, 9/11, 12/10).
With Jakob on fire, Andrew did very well to snatch a set from him. Dunkley’s young Jakob secured the win, which gave him a clean sweep for the night, winning his three singles. (6/11, 11/6, 11/1, 11/4).
