– Mallee Meats 7 Harry Gujral (2), Therese Fitzpatrick (3), Peter Fitzpatrick (0) defeated Pinnacle Packers 4 Josh Arnold (2), James Jarvis (1), Ryan Hensgen (1).

Pinnacle Packers failed to make any in-roads in their battle against Mallee Meats who sit one position above them on the ladder. The standout performance this round was from young Therese Fitzpatrick who continues to punch above her weight, defeating both James Jarvis and captain Josh Arnold in five sets.

The first match was Therese Fitzpatrick versus Jarvis wherein Fitzpatrick came in swinging taking the first two sets 11-6, 11-6, stumbling in the third and fourth 3-11, 7-11 but recovering to take the win in the fifth 11-8. Skipper Gujral then took the second rubber by defeating Hensgen 11-6, 11-7, 15-13 while Arnold bested Peter Fitzpatrick in straight sets 11-6, 11-5, 11-7. Next up, the two sides duked it out in the first doubles. Packers just grabbed the first 12-10, Meats responded by winning the second 11-7, but Packers stood firm in the third, winning 11-4. Meats then rallied their strength and came back from behind, winning 11-4, 11-9.

Jarvis then set his sights on taking down

Gujral in their match but despite his best efforts in their long five set match he came up short 10-12, 11-4, 12-10, 6-11, 8-11. Therese Fitzpatrick then dealt Packers a stunning blow by defeating captain Arnold. She won the first 12-10, dropped the second 5-11, but got ahead in the third 11-6. Arnold managed to get the fourth set 11-7, but he couldn’t beat Fitzpatrick back in the fifth and she won 11-7. Hensgen then got his only win for the night, besting Peter Fitzpatrick in three 11-6, 11-9, 11-9. With the score now 5-2, Meats got ready to deal the final blow to Packers in the evening’s second doubles. Packers fought hard but Meats stayed in control, taking the game in three sets 15-13, 11-3, 14-12.

Although his team had lost, Arnold still put up a good fight against Gujral, taking the game after five difficult sets 9-11, 10-12, 11-4, 11-9, 11-6. In the last two games, Jarvis confidently beat Peter Fitzpatrick 11-6, 11-5, 11-8, and Therese Fitzpatrick won her third for the night, taking down Hensgen in four sets 12-14, 11-8, 12-10, 11-7.

Final score 7 rubbers to 4 and 23 games to 21.

Weightmans Packaging 6 Rasin Bhuiyan (2), Michael Tan (2), Steve Parker (1) defeated Cookes Pools & Spas 5 Duy Truong (3), David Sergi (1), Nhat Dat (0)

Ladder leaders Weightmans pushed second-placed Cookes back a peg by defeating them in round 5. Despite a solid performance from Cookes captain Duy Truong who won his three singles, Weightmans took the victory 6-5.

First up, Tan had his hands full with Dat who pushed his opponent to five sets. Tan started the game steady, taking the first two sets 11-5, 11-4, but Dat found his way through and took the third and fourth sets 11-8, 11-8. It was anyone’s game as the two went into the fifth set with Tan getting the upper hand and winning 11-6. Truong then got his first win of the evening, besting Parker 11-4, 11-6, 11-4 while teammate Sergi went down decisively to Bhuiyan, losing in three 11-2, 11-7, 11-9. Cookes then brought the score to 4-4 with a win in the doubles, taking down the Weightmans pair 11-4, 11-2, 11-9.

Truong continued to push forward, gaining another clean win over Tan, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7 but

Bhuiyan was there to take another rubber for his side, this time defeating Dat, also in three 11-5, 11-2, 11-8. Sergi then got his team one rubber ahead with a win over Parker 11-6, 11-9, 11-8, leading into the night’s second doubles match. The score sat at 4-3 Cookes’ way, as Truong and Sergi faced off against Bhuiyan and Parker. The Weightmans duo got off to a rough start, going down 2-11 in the first, recovering to take the second 11-6, then going down again after a good scrap in the third 14-12. They then shifted into high gear, fighting hard and taking the last two sets 11-9, 11-7, leveling the score again 4 apiece.

Truong knew these last three rubbers were important, so he wasted no time with Bhuiyan, taking him down in straight sets 11-9, 11-8, 13-11. Sergi then tried his best against Tan but couldn’t topple him, losing 6-11, 5-11, 9-11; the score now at 5-5.

Dat and Parker stepped up for the tiebreaker; both keen to take the win for their respective sides. Nat went in hard against Parker but the latter proved too strong, taking the match and the night with a three-set win 12-10, 13-11, 11-9.

Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 19 games to 18.

Maccas Players of the round: Leo Parker

– Regional Taxation Services 7 (Leo Parker 3, Cooper Kalms 2, Karly Leach 1) d Exposed Signage/Apparel 4 (Nick Kiapekos 2, Steve Pongrac 1)

This was a match where each team started with two wins and were only separated by a small percentage after four rounds.
RTS were looking to retain second position on the ladder and started impressively with Leo Parker outpointing Curtis Crabtree in four sets and then in a big win and continuing his good form from last round Leo’s team mate number three Cooper Kalms accounted for opposing number one Steve Pongrac in straight sets, this being Cooper’s best win this year. RTS were off to a flyer leading 2-0.
Exposed’s Nick Kiapekos then steadied the boat by defeating Karly Leach, both these players had won three singles last round, Nick proved too steady winning in four although he did have a hiccup in the third, the scoreline 11-9 11-6 1-11 11-8.

Steve and Nick then levelled the contest at two rubbers all by defeating Karly and Leo in straight sets, a commanding win.

RTS then broke away again by winning the next two singles courtesy of Leo defeating Steve in straight sets, an impressive win while Leo’s team mate Karly recovered from a 1-2 game deficit against Curtis to win in five 9-11 11-9 7-11 11-7 11-7.

When Nick won his second singles of the night the score in favour of RTS stood at 4-3, Nick’s victim this time was Cooper who tried very hard.

The second doubles was important and after dropping the first game to Steve and Curtis it was Karly and Cooper who combined to win 8-11 11-6 11-6 11-7.

With his side under the pump Exposed skipper Steve then kept his team alive by defeating Karly in a four set tussle. With the match on the line Leo then took to the table against the far more experienced Nick and what a match if proved to be.

Nick raced through the first game to win easily while Leo then fought back to narrowly win the second and then the third more comfortably. Nick knowing the four points were slipping away grabbed the fourth by the narrowest of margins. Leo then took control in the fifth and went on to win his third singles of the night 2-11 12-10 11-7 10-12 11-5.

A great effort by Leo to win three singles allowing his team to bank the four points.

To finalise the match RTS number three, Cooper Kalms then won his second singles for the second round in succession when he defeated Curtis Crabtree in a three setter.

An impressive win by Regional Taxation Services.

Winner: Regional Taxation Services 7 d Exposed Services/Apparel 4
Games : 23 to 18

– Mallee Meats 6 (Sabrina Fitzpatrick 2, Brenden Johnson, Hayden Wilson 1) d Sammy’s Slammers 6 (Sam Campbell 3, Raj Gujral 2)

This match was first, Sammy’s Slammers versus bottom of the ladder Mallee Meats and before everyone had a chance to take a breath Mallee Meats had raced to a 4-1 lead in fine style.
For Mallee Meats number three Hayden Wilson started impressively by defeating the in form Koby Grace in four sets. Koby’s skipper Sabrina then proved too consistent for fill in Raj Gujral winning in three sets. Sammy’s skipper Sammy then arrested the position by defeating Brenden Johnson in straight sets.

The first doubles was interesting with each of the four games one sided. For Mallee Meats Sabrina and Brenden quickly took control cruising through the first two games before opponents Sam and Koby struck back to win the third however Sabrina and Brenden refocused going on to win 11-3 11-4 3-11 11-6.

The next match featured Sabrina and Koby and what a start by Koby winning the first two games, his team desperately needed a win however you can never discount Sabrina as she worked her way back in to the contest.

Lots of long rallies took place and Sabrina in an excellent comeback took her team to a 4-1 lead by winning 10-12 6-11 11-6 11-9 11-4. A great attempt by Koby against an experienced opponent.

Sammy’s fill in Raj kept his team alive by recovering from a 1-2 deficit against the dangerous Brenden, after a lengthy match Raj took the points 14-12 6-11 4-11 11-6 11-8. The score now 4-3 in favour of Mallee Meats, a thriller was brewing.

What followed was an outstanding doubles when Meats pair Brenden and Hayden teamed up against Sam and Raj, the latter pair narrowly took the first two games in their quest to level the match score at four rubbers all, however Brenden and Hayden raced through the third easily. Then two tense games took place both close all the way and in the end it was Brenden and Hayden out in front 11-13 8-11 11-2 13-11 13-11, what a match. Mallee Meats now up 5-3.

Sammy’s skipper Sam then won her third singles this time defeating Sabrina in four sets, this was followed by another five setter when Koby raced to a 2 games to love lead over Brenden who then knowing the four points were on the line mounted an excellent comeback to win 8-11 12-14 11-2 11-5 11-4. Brenden had banked the four points for his team against the top team and now the ladder has become far more even.

The final match saw Raj account for Hayden in straight sets, a good win by him and his second of the night.Team mate  Sam Campbell won three singles however it was the lack of success in the doubles that proved to be the difference.

For Mallee Meats skipper Sabrina won two singles while Brenden and Hayden won one each. A special shout out to Brenden who played in both winning doubles.

Maccas Players of the round: Glenn Leeson

– Weightmans Packaging 6 (Tom Gilmour 2, Liam Milton, Eddy Parker 1) d Mallee Meats 5 (Yen Hwak 3, Conner Burnett, Nathan Beard 1)

Mallee – Yen Hwak, Nathan Beard and Conner Burnett. Weightman’s – Tom Gilmour, Eddy Parker and Liam Milton.

It was a pretty even battle through out the night between these two Teams, with the Rubbers weaving from one to the other, until the final Match decided the outcome.

The group of Singles gave Mallee a slight break, winning the first two, but dropping the last. Nathan grabbed the first game, but Liam put up a terrific fight back to take the advantage, winning the next two. With alarm bells ringing, Nathan pulled his game together to collect the Rubber. (11/6, 8/11, 9/11, 11/6, 11/3).

Eddie gave Yen a scare in their four set match, finding a way to get through Yen’s speeding flick shots to grab one game, before Mallee marked up their second win. (11/9, 6/11, 11/8, 11/4).

Tom then swung himself into action, pulling back the deficit, but not before being worried out of the second and third games, when Connor turned on the pressure. The five set match finally went Tom’s way, with some amazing shots coming from both players. (11/7, 6/11, 6/11, 11/5, 11/9).

It was another five set tussle when Yen and Nathan faced Tom and Eddie in the Doubles. With the games see sawing back and forth and all players doing their part to try and sneak that first Double, which, in the end fell to Weightmans. (11/9, 7/11, 11/4, 11/13, 11/8).

Liam’s game is moving ahead with every round and this showed in his close match against Yen. It may have been over in three sets, but two of those were pushed to the limit, before Yen closed it out. (13/11, 11/4, 12/10).

Nathan’s game was shut down early, when he came up against Tom, with the score now back to even. (11/4, 11/4, 11/5).

The first game was very close, but Connor’s tricky shots made life difficult for Eddie, who was only able to capture one game, giving Mallee their fourth Rubber. (12/10, 9/11, 11/4, 11/6).

After Yen and Conner made a good start, sneaking the first game, Weighman’s Tom and Liam took control of the next three, to once again pull things back to level. (5/11, 11/6, 11/5, 11/7).

Yen and Tom had a great tussle, with Yen looking the good in the first, before Tom worked his way back into the match, to forced it to five sets. It was Mallee who wound up on top, when Yen increased the pressure, for the win. (11/4, 8/11, 9/11, 11/5, 11/6).

The number three’s were to follow, with Mallee now sitting on five Rubbers, would Liam, yet to win a match, be able to give Weightman’s another chance.

The tension was evident from the start, but Liam held his nerve to come away with a straight sets win, over Connor, leaving the last match to be the decider. (11/7, 12/10, 11/9).

Nathan and Eddie, the number two’s now had the weight on their shoulders. Would it be Nathan, who already had a win marked up, or Eddie who was looking for his first ? It was a match of many rallies, which saw Eddie get the upper hand to give Weightman’s the win, in a very close night.

WINNER : Weightman’s Packaging  6  to Mallee Meats 5.

GAMES : 24  to 20

– Dunkley Scales 8 (Glenn Leeson 3, Jakob Grzan 2, Jenny Leach 1) d Tankard Dental 3 (Maria Starikov 2, Ildi Healy 1)

Tankard – Maria Starikov, Ildi Healy and Andrew Jeffries. Dunkley Scales –  Glenn Leeson, Jenny Leach and Jakob Grzan.

The action started with Maria and Jen and they were not tiptoeing around, both were focused on the win. The games moved from one to the other from start to finish of the five setter, Maria putting the first away, only to have Jen fight back for the second. But it would be Maria to pocket the first Rubber, for Tankard. (11/5, 5/11, 11/8, 6/11, 11/5).

It would be Dunkley who would then dominate and notch up the following eight Rubbers running.

Andrew began well against Jakob, winning the first game, before Jakob wore him down, with some fantastic shots, in a four set win to Dunkley. (9/11, 11/5, 11/7, 11/3).

Ildi pushed Glenn out to 12 in the second set, which fired Glenn up to complete the match in three. (11/5, 12/10, 11/1).

Maria and Andrew were not to face Glenn and Jen. It was another straight sets win to Dunkley, in the first Doubles, with the first two games relatively even, but things slipped away quickly in the third. (11/8, 11/9, 11/4).

Andrew and Jen were next to the Table, which turned out to be a little one sided, as Andrew’s energy levels were getting low, playing three games running. (11/3, 11/6, 11/3).

With the pressure now on Tankard, the number ones were ready to wrangle it out. With Maria’s reflexes and defensive game, it would have been thought to be a close one, but Glenn put an end to that theory, with a comprehensive win. (11/5, 11/2, 11/8).

Jakob showed his skills and resilience when he and Ildi put on an amazing match, with countless rallies and an excellent array of shots. It was to be Jakob’s win, after a mighty five sets, rewarding Dunkley with their sixth Rubber. (9/11, 11/5, 6/11, 11/7, 11/7).

The last Doubles also went the way of Dunkley, after a well fought three sets with Maria and Ildi, against Glenn and Jakob. Tankard put up a good show, but it wasn’t to be their night. (12/10, 11/9, 11/7).

Glenn had exceptional night, leaving with another win, this time over Andrew, which marked up three Singles and both Doubles. (11/3, 11/8, 11/0).

Ildi and Jen’s matches very often go to five sets and this was no different. Both were giving it their very best, focusing on each point. Ildi found the path to success marking up Tankards second Rubber for the night, in deserving win. (4/11, 14/12, 11/5, 8/11, 11/9).

The last Single for the night was a ripper, with Tankards number one, Maria, up against Dunkley’s number three, the much improved Jakob. The five sets included two being forced to 13 and one out to 16. The last and deciding game had Jakob leading 9 to 2, until Maria made a miraculous come back to win the last game 13 / 11. A tremendous effort from both players. (1614/16, 11/6, 11/13, 11/6, 13/11).
