– Mallee Bearings 6 (Joel Thomas 3, Liam Wood 1) d Weightmans Packaging 5 (Jackson Tung, Dylan Wood 2, Lee Leeson 1)

The highlight match of the night took place between brothers Dylan and Liam Wood who play for Mallee Bearings and Weightmans Packaging respectively. This was a must watch contest which went to five sets and contained some outstanding rallies. Younger brother Dylan after surviving match points in the fourth raced to a 7-1 lead in the fifth and it looked like the result was decided however in an amazing comeback Liam levelled the match at 10 all and then in a tense finish Dylan was able to regroup and win 11-7 8-11 7-11 16-14 12-10 an amazing win against his older brother. Mallee Bearing’s skipper Joel Thomas was again instrumental in his team grabbing the four points as he won three singles as well as taking part in both doubles’ victories. The first doubles was in the balance when Weightmans Jackson Tung and Dylan Wood took a 2-1 lead over Thomas and Liam Wood however the latter combination were able to steady going on to win 11-8 7-11 8-11 11-5 11-7. For Weightmans Tung and Dylan Wood both won two singles while Lee Leeson outlasted the inform Daniel Jansen in three sets however the doubles proved to be the difference.

– Tankard Dental 6 (Reece Kurrle, Paul Kealley 2, Thanh Nguyen 1) d Regional Taxation Services 5 (Rohan Reimers 3, Jackson Murphy 1)

Going in to their match both Tankard Dental  and Regional Taxation Services were fighting it out for their first victory and in the end it was Tankards who took the points 6-5 despite RTS number two Rohan Reimers winning three singles. The match was close right throughout with the five set singles between Tankard’s Thahn Nguyen and RTS number three Edi Re being decisive with Nguyen hanging on to win 12-10 11-7 7-11 9-11 11-5. For the victors Reece Kurrle won two singles as did the in form Paul Kealley who is showing better form than his number three ranking suggests. The doubles were shared.

– Cookes Pools & Spas 6 (Kate Carmichael 2, Gavin Carmichael, Russell Walder 1) d Choices Flooring Mildura 5 (Wayne Carmichael 3, Leon Brown 2)

In a further 6-5 result Cookes Pools & Spas won their first match of the season defeating the previously undefeated Choices Flooring Mildura. Choices skipper Wayne Carmichael continued his unbeaten singles run racing through his three matches in comfortable style. An unusual statistic however for Carmichael was that he played in two losing doubles which proved to be the difference between victory and defeat. Teammate Leon Brown gave his best winning two singles in five sets over Cookes fill in Gavin Carmichael and Russell Walder respectively. Against Carmichael, Brown looked down and out when he trailed 3-7 and then 8-10 in the fifth however a strong finish saw Brown take the fifth 12-10. Earlier against Kate Carmichael Brown started well in each game but could not maintain the pressure as Kate finished the second and third games in strong style. In the second she was able to win seven of eight points at the end and when trailing 6-1 in the third she rattled off ten points in succession. Kate won two singles and took part in both doubles victories to play a big part in her team’s first victory of the season. Teammates Russell Walder and Gavin Carmichael won a singles each.

Weightmans Packaging had this match won 6-1 after seven rubbers, then let Pinnacle Packers back in by losing the final four rubbers.

The final score line of six rubbers to five and 23 games to 21 masked the fact that the outcome was determined early, but also showed what a great comeback the Pinnacle Packers team mounted.

Weightmans Packaging captain Quentin Clark two singles rubbers (in straight sets against John Fitzpatrick and a four set win against Andrew Jones); number two Brendan Alderton also won two (three sets over Andrew Jones and a fighting five set win over Peter Midgley). Number three Riley Clemence picked up one win – a good five set victory over John Fitzpatrick 11-7, 2-11, 12-10, 7-11, 15-13. The doubles rubbers were shared, Weightmans Packaging getting the first, Clark and Alderton winning in four sets over Midgley and Fitzpatrick.

For Pinnacle Packers, Peter Midgley won two singles rubbers and Jones and Fitzpatrick one ach. Midgley and Jones took the second doubles rubber 10-12, 11-8, 11-7, 11-1 against Clark and Clemence.

Final scores: 6 rubbers to 5 and 23 games to 21.

– Choices Flooring Mildura 7 (Jason Gifkins 3, Jeremy Corrin 2) d Mallee Bearings 4 (Karly Leach 3. Terry Martin, Therese Fitzpatrick 1)

Choices Flooring Mildura proved too strong for Mallee Bearings in this third round clash.

The number two for the winners, Jason Gifkins, made his presence felt taking three singles victories and with his captain Jeremy Corrin, the first doubles. Gifkins got a fair workout over the night, two five set contests, and two four setters.

His captain Jeremy Corrin won two of his singles rubbers and was involved in both doubles wins. Both were four set contests, the second one a high scoring affair. He and his number three Harry Gujral defeated Jamie Kealley and Therese Fitzpatrick 14-12, 15-13, 12-14, 11-7.

Mallee Bearings had a fairly quiet night, captain Jamie Kealley with two singles wins, and Terry Martin and Therese Fitzpatrick one each.

Final scores: 7 rubbers to 4 and 26 games to 20.

– Mallee Meats 6 (Ashley Morrison 2, Rasin Bhuiyan. David Sergi 1) d Cookes Pools & Spas 5 (Tom Morrison 3. Marcus Cimino 2)

Mallee Meats made it two wins from three starts, and kept Cookes Pools & Spas winless in this match.

Mallee Meats only won four of the nine singles rubbers on offer, but got home thanks to wins in both doubles rubbers.

Captain Ash Morrison won two singles rubbers, and Rasin Bhuiyan and David Sergi one each. Morrison dropped sets to Michael Hensgen and Marcus Cimino on his way to wins in those rubbers. Bhuiyan and Sergi both had a victory against Michael Hensgen (Bhuiyan in four sets and Sergi in five).

The difference for Mallee Meats was that they won both doubles rubbers – Morrison and Bhuiyan won a great five setter against Michael Hensgen and Tom Morrison 18-16, 10-12, 17-19, 11-6, 11-7 and later Ash Morrison and David Sergi won (again in five sets) against Michael Hensgen and Marcus Cimino 10-12, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5.

Tom Morrison starred for Cookes Pools & Spas, winning three singles rubbers, including a great five set victory over his father Ash 11-6, 7-11, 14-12, 10-12, 11-8. Cimino picked up two singles wins, but that was all the team could muster, so they fell one rubber short of a win.

Final scores: 6 rubbers to 5 and 23 games to 24.

– Weightmans Packaging 8 (Ryan Peterson 3, Karly Leach 2, Sam Campbell 1) d Mallee Meats 3 (Nhat Dat 2, Glenn Leeson 1)

Ryan Peterson again won three singles and led his Weightmans Packaging team to a commanding eight rubbers to three win against Mallee Meats in this round three match.

And with eight three set contests, this match was headed Weightmans Packaging’s way early in the evening.

Peterson had great support from his number two, Karly Leach. Karly won two of her three singles rubbers (a five set win against her opposite number Hamish Smyth; and a straight sets win against Glenn Leeson). And when she and Ryan teamed up in the first doubles rubber, in resulted in a three set victory over Nhat Dat (subbing for Andrew Kremor) and Smyth.

Weightmans Packaging number three Koby Grace was unable to play, so Sam Campbell and Curtis Crabtree took turns playing Koby’s four rubbers. Sam won her two matches; firstly a three set win over Smyth, and the second doubles rubber with Peterson against Dat and Leeson.

For Mallee Meats, Nhat Dat was successful in two of his three singles rubbers, and Glenn Leeson grabbed a win over Curtis Crabtree.

Final scores: 8 rubbers to 3 and 25 games to 12.

– Exposed Signage/Apparel 6 (Luca Capizzoto 3, Nick Kiapekos, Wendy Simpson 1) d Regional Taxation Services 5 (Peter Fitzpatrick, Sabrina Fitzpatrick 2)

Exposed Signage & Apparel took the four premiership points in a close match with Regional Taxation Services.

Nick Kiapekos picked up a win, and number three Wendy Simpson one also … with the scores at five rubbers all and one to play, Wendy came back from two sets to love down to win against Sam Campbell 8-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-5.

PENNANT FOUR:

– Weightmans Packaging 8 (Gary Leach 3, Raj Gujral, Curtis Crabtree 2) d Tankard Dental 3 (Ildi Healy 2)

Weightman’s team comprised of Curtis Crabtree, Gary Leach and Raj Gujral, with Tankard Dental lining up with Ildi Healy, Cetty Bonaccorso (filling in) and Conner Burnett.

Ildi started off well for Tankard, defeating Curtis in a see-sawing five sets, to mark the first Rubber to her team (11/5, 4/11, 11/8, 2/11, 11/8). Gary was very consistent in his game against Cetty, with 3 sets of (11/5). It took another five setter in the third match, with Raj coming out the better against Conner, both showing a lot of improvement (15/13, 11/9, 9/11, 6/11, 11/8).

Tankard battled out four sets against Weightman’s in the first lot of Doubles, but Curtis and Gary were too solid for Ildi and Cetty (8/11, 11/6, 11/7, 11/5).

The following three Rubbers all fell the way of Weightman’s with some fantastic rally’s amongst them. Gary defeated Ildi (11/8, 11/6. 9/11, 4/11, 12/10). Conner put in a great performance against Curtis in their second set, but Curtis was a bit too tough in the last couple (11/3, 9/11, 11/7, 11/5).

Raj stepped his game up to the next level, grabbing a win from Cetty in four sets, with three of those very pushed to the limit  (15/13, 4/11, 18/16, 13/11), this brought up six Rubbers for Weightman’s giving them the overall win for the night.

It was an exciting match in the second Doubles with the first two sets going to Weightmans Curtis and Raj, but Tankard’s Ildi and Conner fought back to snatch the next three and claim their second Rubber.

Gary had a ripper night, gathering 3 individual wins and 1 Doubles for his team. With Gary on fire, it was a bit hard for Conner to get any leverage (11/3, 11/5, 11/4). Tankards third Rubber was marked up when Ildi convincingly won her match against Raj (11/6, 11/1, 11/8). The final game went to four sets, but Cetty went down to Curtis (3/11, 11/6, 11/7, 11/7).

WINNERS : Weightman’s Packaging 8 to Tankard Dental 3. GAMES 28 to 17.

– Dunkley Scales 6 (Tom Gilmour, Deegan Kerslake 2) d Mallee Meats 5 (Maria Starikov 3, Jake Hines, Jenny Leach 1)

Mallee Meats Team comprised of Maria Starikova, Jen Leach and Jake Hines and they were up against Dunkley Scales, Tom Gilmour, Deegan Kerslake and Selma Mayne.

Jen and Deegan were first to face up and although Jen gave it her best shot, Deegan had her measure, with his sneaky serves and cut shots (11/9, 11/6, 11/8). Maria marked up a Rubber for Mallee Meats, when she made short work of Selma. Somehow, no matter where that ball seems to be hit by the opposition, Maria has the ability to get it back (11/3, 11/4, 11/5). New member, Jake had number one player, Tom worried with his cunning serves and at one point looked like he would take a set from him, but eventually reeled him in (11/6, 11/8, 13/11).

The sets in the Doubles didn’t all go Dunkley’s way, with Maria and Jen pushing Tom and Deegan to 15 in the second. But eventually they were too over powering for Mallee. (11/6, 15/13, 11/8).

The magic hands of Maria then took on Deegan and although he forced her to four sets, she was once again too impressive (11/6, 11/9, 11/13, 11/6). When Jen took the first set from Tom, I think she thought, this may be the night, she may find a way to overcome Tom’s amazing cut, slice, chop game. But, No, once again, Tom found a way to win (10/12, 14/12, 11/8, 11/9) adding the fourth Rubber for Dunkle. Selma and Jake had a mighty tussle in their match, with it swinging too and froe. But Jake had his game fired up and added a Rubber for Mallee taking out the five setter (12/10, 8/11, 10/12, 13/11, 11/7).

Another Rubber landed for Dunkley, when Tom and Selma put in a beauty in the Doubles against Maria and Jake (9/11, 11/8, 12/14, 15/13, 11/4).

Maria notched up her third single win for the night, plus a Doubles and once again it was another five set match, against Tom, which is always laden with rallies (11/8, 11/8, 6/11, 3/11, 11/7). Deegan put in the win against Jake, which settled the winner for the night, racking up 6 Rubbers for Dunkley (11/7, 11/7, 11/5).

Good friends, Jen and Selma had the last game of the night, but as weird as it might seem, if you beat your friend, it’s a win, but it doesn’t seem like a win (11/3, 11/9, 11/2).
