– Cookes Pools & Spas 6 (Kate Carmichael 3, Jackson Murphy 2) d Tankard Dental 5 (Rohan Reimers 2, Paul Kealley, Thanh Nguyen 1)
In this round Carmichael’s team Cookes Pools & Spas retained second position on the ladder with a 6-5 victory over Tankard Dental who were desperately trying to gain a late finals berth. This was a match of two halves with Cookes racing out to a 5-1 lead before Tankards grabbed four of the next five rubbers to fall just short in their finals quest.
Jackson Murphy offered Carmichael good support winning two singles whilst also partnering Carmichael in a three-set victory in the first doubles over Thanh Nguyen and Rohan Reimers, this was to be a vital win in gaining the four points.
For Tankard Dental Rohan Reimers played well winning two singles to finish off a consistent season.
– Mallee Bearings 7 (Wayne Carmichael 3, Reece Kurrle 2) d Max Miller Carpets 4 (Jackson Tung 2, Liam Wood, Ed Hung 1)
With a 7-4 victory over Max Miller Carpets, Mallee Bearings have secured first position on the ladder going into this week’s first round of finals. Bearings skipper Wayne Carmichael was instrumental in the win playing in three singles victories and partnering his teammates in two doubles successes. Carmichael’s three set win against fill in Jackson Tung was a high-class match; Tung took the first before Carmichael steadied in a match containing many long rallies. The winning scoreline by Carmichael was 9-15 15-8 15-10.
Reece Kurrle for the Bearings team offered good support winning two singles. Overall there were five three set matches in what was an entertaining tussle.
– Regional Taxation Services 6 (Jackson Tung 3, Leon Brown 2) d Weightmans Packaging 5 (Mark Dorman 2, Gavin Carmichael, Russell Walder 1)
Regional Taxation Services moved to third on the ladder with a narrow 6-5 win over cellar dwellers Weightmans Packaging. Weightmans although on the bottom of the ladder went in to this match knowing a strong display would enable them to grab fourth spot. The loss of the fist doubles by Mark Dorman and Gavin Carmichael in straight sets against Jackson Tung and Leon Brown snuffed out any opportunity of Weightmans advancing to the first week of the finals.
For RTS Jackson Tung was in form winning three singles while Leon Brown won two. Weightmans Mark Dorman continued his consistent season winning two singles while number three Russell Walder played his role winning a tough three setter against Ash Morrison and also playing in a winning doubles with Dorman.

– Pinnacle Packers 7 (Rasin Bhuiyan 3, Daniel Jansen 2) d Cookes Pools & Spas 4 (Kevin Johns 2, Luca Capizzoto, Marita Grace 1)
Pinnacle Packers captain Daniel Jansen had the opportunity this round to be joint winner of the individual aggregate, but a determined Cookes Pools & Spas captain Kevin Johns put paid to that idea. Going into the round, Jansen was one game behind aggregate leader Jamie Kealley, and needed Kealley to drop a game so that he could join him at the top of the ladder. Jamie did drop a game, but so did Daniel, so Jamie becomes the outright aggregate champion for this season.
Despite that disappointment Pinnacle Packers still had a big win. In a welcome return to form Rasin Bhuiyan did what Jansen could not do, and won three singles rubbers. Rasin’s first match of the night was against Johns and after dropping the first set 9-15, Bhuiyan worked his way back into the match to take the next two sets 15-7, 15-9. His second and third wins were a little easier, both two sets, although Marita Grace and Luca Capizzoto put up stern opposition in one of the sets. Rasin defeated Marita 16-14, 15-7 and Luca 15-6, 15-13.
Jansen defeated Grace and Capizzoto in straight sets, and would have been confident of making it three wins, as he defeated Johns last time the two sides met, in round five.
Pinnacle Packers were successful in both doubles rubbers – Jansen and Bhuiyan had a great tussle with Johns and Capizzoto before winning 15-12, 9-15, 15-11. The second doubles was a relatively straightforward affair, Jansen and Andrew Kremor replicated their success from round six, this time proving too good for the pairing of Johns and Grace, who have tasted success in six of the ten rounds. Jansen and Kremor won 15-9, 15-10.
For Cookes Pools & Spas, Johns won two singles (Jansen and Kremor), and Capizzoto and Grace both defeated fill-in Andrew Kremor.
Final scores: 7 rubbers to 4 and 14 games to 10.
– Weightmans Packaging 7 (Jeremy Corrin, Shaun Gifford 2, Therese Fitzpatrick 1) d Max Miller Carpets 4 (Jamie Kealley, Jordan Cole 2)
Going into this match, Weightmans Packaging captain was a chance to win the individual aggregate. Like Daniel Jansen from the previous match, Jeremy needed to win all his singles rubbers and his opposing captain here, Jamie Kealley, leader of the aggregate needed to lose one. After the first round of singles, Jeremy knew that it was then up to him to win three, as by then Kealley had been
beaten by Weightmans Packaging number two Shaun Gifford in an outstanding match. Gifford blitzed Kealley in the first set 15-5, really putting the Max Miller Carpets captain on the back foot. Kealley was acutely aware of the position with the aggregate prize, a prize he set his sight on. Kealley played much better in the second set, however Gifford made him work for his 15-13 win. The third set was again tight, and Gifford played a better percentage game, Kealley in a high risk strategy constantly going for winners, and missing, whereas Shaun made sure of his shots and got the better result. The third set was a 15-13 win to the Weightmans Packaging player. Kealley now had to hope that both Jansen (in his match) and Corrin (in this match) would only both win two, which ultimately was how things panned out.
That win by Gifford gave Weightmans Packaging a lead of two rubber to one, and Corrin’s team stretched that to four rubbers to one, taking the following match, the first doubles, and the first singles in the second round of singles. Corrin and his number three, Therese Fitzpatrick have proved to be a remarkably good doubles combination this season, so much so that Jeremy has entrusted the first doubles duties to Therese, and once again they triumphed, defeating two very good singles players Kealley and Jordan Cole. Doubles being the different game it is, Corrin and Fitzpatrick won in straight sets against their bigger hitting opponents 15-13, 15-10.
After Corrin defeated Cole in the next rubber, Kealley got some revenge for his earlier defeat by downing Fitzpatrick but Gifford kept his good night going by defeating Samar Warring in straight sets.
The second doubles followed, and another success to the Weightmans Packaging side, this time Corrin and Gifford convincing winners over Kealley and Warring 15-11, 15-7.
The next rubber was the match of the night – both Corrin and Kealley wanting/needing the win for the reasons already explained relating to the aggregate prize. Corrin drew first blood taking the first set 15-13, and had opportunities to win the game in straight sets, however Kealley somehow managed to wangle out of it and take the second set 17-15. Losing that set clearly deflated Jeremy’s confidence, and Jamie ripped through the third set 15-4. Although a big win, Max Miller Carpets still had won just three rubbers for the night to that point, with two to play. Jordan Cole picked up his second win for the night, bamboozling giant-killer Gifford 2 and 5, and Therese Fitzpatrick finished the night off on a high note for Weightmans Packaging, defeating Warring in straight sets.
Final scores: 7 rubbers to 4 and 15 games to 9.
– Mallee Meats 8 (Tom Morrison 3, Terry Martin 2, David Sergi 1) d Mallee Bearings 3 (John Fitzpatrick 2, Josh Arnold 1)
In a last gasp charge, Mallee Meats pinched second spot on the ladder from Weightmans Packaging with an eight rubbers to three win against bottom side Mallee Bearings.
Mallee Meats and Weightmans Packaging both finished the season with 61 rubbers won, 49 lost, but Mallee Meats had a slightly better win/loss ratio in the games department, 137 won and 114 lost as against Weightmans Packaging also with 137 won but having lost ten more games, 124. In practical terms this makes no difference as these two sides play each other next week in the finals no matter how they finished, but if bragging rights mean anything …
Mallee Bearings were unable to reproduce the form which saw them topple the ladder leaders last round, this time they were simply outplayed by the Mallee Meats trio of Terry Martin (2 wins), Tom Morrison (3 wins) and David Sergi (1 win).
Morrison, in particular has had a great season, and his three wins here lifts him to fourth on the aggregate, and easily the best performed number two (by some 5 games). Tom started his night with a big three set win against Mallee Bearings captain John Fitzpatrick 15-10, 9-15, 15-7. His second and third wins both came in straight sets, against Josh Arnold and James Jarvis.
Captain Terry Martin also defeated Arnold and Jarvis, and David Sergi picked up one win, against Jarvis.
Added to those six rubbers, Mallee Meats won both the doubles rubbers, Martin and Morrison winning a close two setter against Fitzpatrick and Arnold 16-14, 15-12 and later Martin and Sergi played like a well-oiled machine to defeat Fitzpatrick and Jarvis 15-8, 15-10.
For Mallee Bearings, John Fitzpatrick won two rubbers (Sergi 16-14, 15-11, and Martin 15-11, 15-7) and Josh Arnold defeated David Sergi in the opening rubber 15-13, 15-8.
Final scores: 8 rubbers to 3 and 16 games to 7.

– Exposed Signage/Apparel 10 (Karly Leach, Steve Parker 3, Brenden Johnson 1) d Sammy’s Slammers 1 (Nick Kiapekos 1)
In a disappointing match, Sammy’s Slammers were thrashed by Exposed Signage & Apparel, and lost second spot on the ladder to them. Regardless, they will play each other again next week in the first round of the finals.
This time round however, Sammy’s Slammers forfeited three rubbers as Ryan Peterson was unable to play, and they lost seven of the remaining rubbers.
Karly Leach (subbing for Exposed Signage & Apparel captain Sabrina Fitzpatrick) and number two Steve Parker both won three singles, and Brendon Johnson, subbing for Wendy Simpson, two.
Leach defeated Sammy’s Slammers number three Deegan Kerslake 15-5, 15-11, but had to work for her win against Sammy’s Slammers captain Nick Kiapekos 15-13, 15-13. Parker actually won his matches easier than did his captain, a 15-13, 15-4 win against Kiapekos and 15-5, 15-9 against Kerslake.
The most fiercely contested game of the night was the 20-18, 15-13 win by Johnson in the final rubber, against Kerslake. Although the outcome of the match had been well and truly decided by that point, these two played like it was the deciding rubber of the grand final (and all credit to them).
With one doubles being forfeited because of the absence of Peterson, the match which was played was, like the one just described hard fought. Leach and Johnson prevailed, but it took them three sets to get the better of Kiapekos and Kerslake, eventually winning 15-9, 13-15, 15-13.
Nick Kiapekos picked up just the one rubber for his side, a two set win against Johnson 15-9, 15-9.
Final scores: 10 rubbers to 1 and 20 games to 3.
– Mallee Meats 7 (Riley Clemence 3, Dave Tanner 2, Koby Grace 1) d Regional Taxation Services 4 (Nhat Dat 2, Leo Parker 1)
Mallee Meats picked up their fourth win for the season with a seven rubbers to four victory against bottom side Regional Taxation Services. Had they lost this match Mallee Meats would have been
equal with their opponents here on three wins for the season, and participation in the finals would have been determined by their for/against record … better to decide it on the court!!
In the event, Riley Clemence played well to pick up three wins (for the sixth time this season) and ensured he won the aggregate award. Well done Riley!! Riley had two set wins against Nhat Dat and Brian White, but Leo Parker really made him work for win number three, Riley eventually getting over the line 15-13, 12-15, 15-11. Dave Tanner won two rubbers, both in two sets, and Koby Grace picked up one, a three set win against Brian White 15-5, 18-20, 15-5.
The doubles rubbers were shared, Mallee Meats won the first – Clemence and Tanner in three sets against White and Dat 15-13, 10-15, 15-8, and the second doubles going to the Regional Taxation Services pairing of Leo Parker and Dat 13-15, 17-15, 15-7, defeating Clemence and Grace.
For Regional Taxation Services, Dat finished with two singles wins (against Grace 15-13, 15-9 and Tanner 15-8, 15-12) and Leo Parker just one, 15-5, 15-12 against Koby Grace.
Final scores: 7 rubbers to 4 and 15 games to 11.

PENNANT FOUR:
The end of the Summer Season has come around quickly, with this being the last round and the Finals to be contested next Wednesday. There was little chance of the top two Teams being knocked out, with Katrina Clifford’s Dunkley Scales (8 wins) sitting comfortably on top of the Ladder and Derek Hung’s Tankard Dental (7 wins) next in line, well in front of the Weightmans Packaging with 3 wins and Mallee Meats on 2 wins.

– Weightmans Packaging 5 (Gary Leach, Tom Gilmour 2) d Dunkley Scales 4 (Katrina Clifford 3, Cetty Bonaccorso 1)
Katrina was put under the pump this round, as two of her team members were unable to play, which meant Weightman’s had to lend out one of their players, in Cetty Bonaccorso, leaving the match to be played out with only two on each team.
Kat started off with a fine win for Dunkley against Tom Gilmour (15/10, 15/8). Gary Leach then came up against Cetty, his normal team mate, who fought it out to the end over two sets, but Gary kept his focus to put in a win to Weightman’s (15/9, 20/18).
With only one Doubles able to be played, Tom and Gary put together another winning rubber against Kat and Cetty (15/8, 15/10).
The very reliable Kat pulled out another win for her team, in a two sets defeat over Gary (15/11, 15/7) putting both teams on two wins.
The final game saw Tom and Cetty facing off and Tom had control of the match from the start, winning (15/4, 15/5) and giving Weightman’s the point needed to take the overall win.
With the night finishing up early for these two teams, each team received a rubber point for the players who were not able to be a part of their teams, it left the final score as follow :
Winners – Weightmans Packaging 5 to Dunkley Scales 4 (Games 10 to 8).
– Tankard Dental 8 (Derek Hung, Curtis Crabtree 3, Nathan Beard 1) d Mallee Meats 3 (Cooper Woodroffe, Maria Starikov 1)
Tankard’s Team had a full squad ready to roll and Mallee Meats called on Cooper Woodroffe to fill in once again.
The first rubber was a close tussle between Maria Starikov and Nathan Beard and as has happened in every match they have had together, it saw many long and determined rallies. Nathan baffles most with his relentless game, but Maria seems to have the ability to break through his game most of the time and this was another one going her way (18/16, 15/12). Tankards Curtis Crabtree, minus his long locks and brandishing his spic new hair style showed why he is near the top of the aggregate, adding brandishing another notch, against Mallee’s Jen Leach (15/6, 15/8). Cooper has put in a really great effort over the last two weeks, considering they are the only two comp’s he’s played. Derek Hung did get the win, but not before a good fight (15/12, 15/11).
With Tankard’s on a bit of a roll, the pairing of Derek and Curtis were put to the test, against Maria and Jen, with a tight three set match, being snatched by Tankard (8/15, 15/10, 16/14).
As consistent as Maria is, Curtis was able to out play her and took the first singles of this bracket (15/13, 16/14). Cooper applied the pressure and was successful in knocking of Nathan in a great match, which was pushed to three sets (17/15, 12/15, 15/12). Jen did her best to grab another point for Mallee, but Derek finally kept focused and increased Tankards lead (8/15, 15/10, 17/15).
With Cooper fired up and Maria wanting to make pull in another win, the second Doubles turned out to be a fantastic game to watch. The momentum shifted back and forth through out, but it was the newbie and the experienced who stayed strong, with the win falling to Mallee meats (15/13, 13/15, 16/14).
Cooper also pushed Curtis to the edge in their three sets game, but it eventually fell Tankards way in another nail bitter (15/13, 10/15, 15/12). This gave Tankard an unbeatable lead.
Derek got the wood on Maria in two sets (15/10, 15/13). Nathan and Jen usually have a pretty close match, but Jen didn’t seem to have her game on target and Nathan further increased the lead for Tankard (15/5, 16/14).
Winners – Tankard Dental 8 to Mallee Meats 3 (Games 17 to 8).
