– Regional Taxation Services 6 (Jackson Tung, Rohan Reimers 2, Lee Leeson 1) d Choices Flooring Mildura 5 (Jamie Kealley, Thanh Nguyen 2)

For the second round in succession RTS number two Rohan Reimers defeated the opposing number one player. This week he accounted for the exciting Jamie Kealley in an exciting five set thriller in the very first match of the night. This was a match full of hard hitting and strong defence from both players, Kealley took a two games to one lead before Reimers showed tremendous concentration to win 10-12 11-8 9-11 11-9 11-8 a great start for his team.

The Choices team then took control winning four of the next five rubbers, was there a big upset brewing? Included in these victories was an excellent three set victory by Choices number two Thanh Nguyen over Rohan Reimers. Nguyen also teamed with skipper Kealley to win the first doubles over Reimers and Jackson Tung, an impressive win in straight sets.

With her team under pressure trailing 2-4 Lee Leeson took to the table against opposing number three Marcus Cimino and it was Cimino who controlled the first game winning impressively 11-5, Leeson despite being under pressure then lifted and turned the match around, exactly what her team needed and she was triumphant winning the fourth 11-2.

From here the Choices team did not look back stringing the next three rubbers together to grab the four points. Leeson and skipper Jackson Tung were impressive in the second doubles winning a tough encounter against Kealley and Cimino 9-11 11-5 9-11 11-7 11-8.

RTS were the victors however they had been placed under extreme pressure by the hard working bottom team who don’t appear to be far from a win.

– Weightmans Packaging 6 (Wayne Carmichael 3, Mark Dorman 2) d Tankard Dental 5 (Shannon Bowen 2, Reece Kurrle, Jason Gifkins 1)

Weightmans Packaging have retained second position on the ladder after their narrow 6-5 win over Tankard Dental . Weightmans skipper Wayne Carmichael was in excellent form winning three singles with his match against Shannon Bowen a real highlight. Carmichael took the first two games before Bowen bounced back to level , the fifth game saw Carmichael grab the ascendancy and go on to win a top class match 11-5 11-9 9-11 9-11 11-7.

Both doubles went to five sets and were shared , however the second was vital for Weightmans when Carmichael teamed up with Ed Hung to defeat Shannon Bowen and Jason Gifkins in a thriller 10-12 13-11 7-11 11-2 11-9 , this victory was one of four in succession by Weightmans after Tankard’s had taken a 4-2 lead early.

Apart from Carmichael’s three singles wins , team mate Mark Dorman won his customary two singles to aid his team snatching their victory after being under extreme pressure.

To cap off the top three teams defeating the lower three teams on the Red Cliffs Club shield ladder third placed Cooke’s Pools Spas outlasted fifth placed Mallee Bearings 6-5 in an entertaining clash. The first doubles potentially decided the result when Cooke’s pair Kate Carmichael and Paul Kealley snatched the 9-11 11-7 11-6 9-11 11-9 victory from Arhuang Lau and Leon Brown, an entertaining five set match full of many attacking shots and a thriller right to the end.

– Cookes Pools & Spas 6 (Kate Carmichael 3, Paul Kealley 2) d Mallee Bearings 5 (Arhuang (Wong) Lau 2, Leon Brown, Russell Walder 1)

Cooke’s skipper Kate Carmichael won three singles with her match against Lau an interesting contest, it looked like Carmichael was in complete control winning the first two games 11-2 11-6 despite Lau hitting some powerful forehands , Carmichael then held two match points when she took a lead of 10-8 in the third , Lau then served to stay in the match , his serve clipped the edge of the table at his end and flew very high over the net , Carmichael had an unusual amount of time to decide how she would dispose of the point only much to her frustration she hit the ball off the table and the chance was gone, Lau then grabbed this game and the fourth as Carmichael attempted to gather her thoughts. She was able to steady in the fifth and defend a barrage of forehands to go on and win what had been an unusual match. She has now taken a two lead in the singles aggregate.

Carmichaels team mate Paul Kealley played a key role for Cooke’s winning two singles and he also partnered Carmichael in the important first doubles victory.

Pinnacle Packers 6 Duy Truong (3), Peter Midgley (2), Steve Parker (0) defeated Mallee Meats 5 Michael Tan (1), John Fitzpatrick (2), Deegan Kerslake (1).

Pinnacle Packers got the jump on Mallee Meats early on in round 7, winning four out of the first five rubbers. Meats would recover somewhat to make the loss a respectable 6-5, but it would be too little too late.

First up, Parker took on fill-in Fitzpatrick and after grabbing a second set win, couldn’t quite seal the deal, losing 7-11, 11-6, 9-11, 7-11. Next, Kerslake would prove to be little trouble for undefeated aggregate leader Truong, who took the win in straight sets 11-4, 11-6, 11-3. And then came a shocker, wherein the seasoned Midgley defeated captain Tan, 11-8, 11-9, 11-5, dealing Meats a blow that would significantly contribute to their loss. Had he won this match, Tan may have been able to tip the 6-5 scale in his favour. As it would turn out though, the first doubles would be another loss for Meats as well, with Packers cleaning it up 11-8, 11-5, 11-8.

Fitzpatrick then attempted to slow Packers down in his match against Truong, but fell off after taking the first set, 11-6, 5-11, 8-11, 6-11. Packers were now 4-1 in front and picking up steam. Tan then got his first singles win, besting Parker 11-7, 11-4, 11-3, while Midgley got his second by defeating young Kerslake, 11-6, 11-4, 11-4. Meats were barely hanging on at 5-2 as they went into the evening’s second doubles. And Packers looked like they were going to end it there and then as they surgically took the first two sets 11-8, 11-6. All looked lost for Meats as they started in on the third set, but then they miraculously threaded the needle and got it done, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7, keeping Packers from the win for one more rubber; the score now 5-3.

Unfortunately, this moment was short lived as Truong secured the victory in the next rubber, besting Tan, 11-7, 11-9, 7-11, 7-11, 11-4. This win will now make second-placed Packers even with first-placed Meats on the ladder with 4 wins apiece. To wrap things up, Fitzpatrick got a second win by defeating Midgley in five sets, 11-4, 8-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, and Kerslake managed to get himself one win for the night, downing Parker in four 12-10, 9-11, 11-2, 11-8.

Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 24 games to 18.

Choices Flooring Mildura 8 Therese Fitzpatrick (2), Josh Arnold (3), Shiva Rottela (2) defeated Sammy’s Slammers 3 Quentin Clark (1), James Jarvis (1), Ryan Hensgen (0).

Choices Flooring made it look easy against Sammy’s Slammers, ending the night with an 8-3 win. Along with a doubles, No. 2 player Josh Arnold contributed significantly by winning three singles matches, while opposing captain Quentin Clark was undoubtedly disappointed with his performance, taking only one singles win.

Arnold dropped the first pin of the night by defeating Hensgen in what was the first of many three-set matches, 11-8, 11-9, 11-7. Clark then made a blunder which cost him dearly, taking the first set against Rottela, 11-7, and then coming undone in the subsequent sets, 3-11, 8-11, 8-11. Fitzpatrick then presented a challenge to Jarvis, who went down in the first two, 5-11, 8-11, then he recovered 11-9, 11-8, but then Fitzpatrick knocked him back again, taking the win 11-8. Now at 3-1 down, the Sammys finally found some momentum in the first doubles, taking a clean win 11-5, 11-7, 11-9.

Clark then suffered another brutal loss, this time to Arnold, 6-11, 8-11, 7-11. Teammate Hensgen likewise could bring nothing to bear against Fitzpatrick who remained rock steady, 7-11, 7-11, 4-11. The score now sitting at 5-1, it was up to Jarvis to try to make a dent in Choices Flooring’s armour and he did so, taking on a defiant Rottela. Jarvis took the first two 11-8, 15-13, Rottela retaliated with a 11-3 win in the third, but then Jarvis got up in the fourth and ended it, 11-7. 5-2 and the Sammys had a lot of ground to cover going into the second doubles. They started the game shaky, losing the first and second 2-11, 9-11, and in the third just made it over the line before their opponents 12-10. They then went on the offensive, winning the fourth 11-6 but couldn’t keep it together in the fifth, losing 8-11. Thus, Choices Flooring added another notch to their belt while the Sammys have some work ahead of them if they hope to get up into the ladder’s top four teams.

Clark finally chalked up one win for the evening, defeating opposite captain Fitzpatrick, 13-11, 12-10, 11-9. Arnold then ended the night with his third singles win over Jarvis 11-8, 11-8, 11-3, while Rottela defeated the still winless Hensgen in three sets, 11-5, 11-5, 11-3.

Final score 8 rubbers to 3 and 25 games to 14.

– Regional Taxation Services 8 (Andrew Kremor, Brenden Johnson 3, Curtis Crabtree 1) d Exposed Signage/Apparel 3 (Karly Leach, Chris Cen 1)

Regional Taxation Services delivered a commanding performance in Round 7 of the Winter Pennant Three competition, defeating second placed Exposed Signage and Apparel 8 rubbers to 3 in a strong all-round team effort.

From the outset, Regional Taxation Services set the tone, with Andrew and Brenden both contributing crucial singles victories to build early scoreboard pressure. They both were in outstanding form winning three singles each.

The doubles were shared , the first won by the Exposed pair of Karly Leach and Chris Cen in four sets over Andrew and Brenden which was their only hiccup on the night.

Exposed Signage and Apparel had their moments early and at one stage levelled the match at 3 rubbers all however from here it was RTS who dominated taking the last five rubbers to pick up the valuable four points. This was only the second win of the season for RTS, if they can maintain this form they will cause issues for the opposition.

In the second half Regional Taxation Services maintained control across the majority of matches, consistently winning the key points and closing out games under pressure. Their superior consistency was reflected in the overall games tally, finishing 26 games to 18.

With this result, Regional Taxation Services continue to build strong momentum as the season progresses, while Exposed Signage and Apparel will look to regroup and bounce back in the next round.

As mentioned earlier both Andrew and Brenden won three singles each, Andrew continues to lead the singles aggregate while this was Brendan’s best form for the season. His five set victories over both Karly Leach and Chris Cen were impressive.

Team mate Curtis Crabtree also played his part winning the second doubles in five sets and then in the final singles of the night defeated the in form Hayden Wilson in a further five set marathon.

– Cookes Pools & Spas 8 (Peter Fitzpatrick, Koby Grace, Yen Hwak 2) d Weightmans Packaging 3 (Nhat Dat 3)

Ladder leader Cookes Pools & Spas produced a dominant display , comfortably accounting for Weightmans Packaging 8 rubbers to 3.

The Cookes lineup of Peter Fitzpatrick, Koby Grace, and Yen Hwak proved too strong all winning two singles each as well as winning both doubles. The trio’s consistency across their singles matches ensured Cookes maintained control throughout the contest.

Victory came despite Weightmans skipper Nhat Dat winning three singles, his match against Koby Grace developed into a lengthy five setter.

In the doubles, Cookes continued to assert their dominance. The combinations worked seamlessly, with Peter featuring strongly in both pairings to help secure crucial points. Their ability to convert tight games into wins proved a key difference.

To their credit, Weightmans Packaging—represented by Nhat Dat, first gamer Lewis Hussey, and Matt Sires—continued to compete hard. Despite their efforts, they struggled to match the overall consistency and depth of their opponents.

The final games tally of 26–11 underlined Cookes Pools & Spas’ control of the match, rarely allowing Weightmans to gain any sustained momentum.

With this strong 8–3 victory, Cookes Pools & Spas continue to build form as the season progresses, they occupy first on the ladder with a 6 win one loss ratio. Opponents Weightmans Packaging will look to regroup and bounce back in the next round.

One of the fill in’s, Calvin Tjhin, was a new player to STTA and stood up very well, bringing home two wins for Weightman’s Packaging.

There were quite a few highlights on the night, but one big one, was the reappearance of Cetty Bonaccorso, after a few years away to start a beautiful Family. Welcome back Cetty.

Over the course of the evenings play, there was not one five setter from any of the 22 Matches, which is pretty rare.

The first match to cover this week is between Dunkley Scales and Weightman’s Packaging, which turned out to be an extremely tight tussle.

– Weightmans Packaging 6 (Glenn Leeson, Calvin Tjhin 2, Conner Burnett 1) d Dunkley Scales 5 (Rodney Galvin 3, Maria Starikov 1)

Dunkley – Rodney Galvin, Maria Starikov and Andrew Jeffries (Fill-in – Alma McKay). Weightman’s – Glenn Leeson, Jakob Grzan (Fill-in – Calvin Tjhin) and Conner Burnett.

Calvin kick started Weightman’s with a close encounter against Maria, who is usually difficult to get points from, with her defensive play.

Rod brought the Rubbers to even, when he faced Conner, seemingly gliding through a three set match, without any hassles.

Alma is doing a good job, stepping in for Andrew, but really didn’t stand a chance against Dunkley’s number one.

The see sawing theme continued in the Doubles and as hard as Glenn and Calvin tried, they were unable to reel in the pairing of Rod and Maria, who finished off in three sets.

Rod continued his great run, collecting another win for Dunkley, in a battle against Calvin, with some Weightman’s fill-in giving it his best shot.

Maria pushed Glenn in the rally filled four sets, but Glenn’s know how got through Maria’s Brick wall, once again, bringing the score back to even.

Alma wouldn’t have known where to look, facing up to Conner’s slippery shots, with a very quick win falling to Weightman’s.

Glenn and Conner found a way to pocket a win over Rod and Alma, in the last Doubles with a good fight in the third set, going out to 12/10.

It was a little surprizing to see how quickly the contest between the two number one’s ended, with Rod having the wood over Glenn, in a fast three setter.

Alma stood her ground in the skirmish with Calvin, forcing him to 12/10 in the last of the three sets, with the Rubber falling to Calvin, giving Weightman’s the required sixth Rubber, for the overall win.

The last match of the night for these two teams, came from Maria and Connor. Although the winning conclusion for the night had already been determined, both players put up a good contest, with Maria having the last say.

WINNER : Weightman’s Packaging  6  to Dunkley Scales  5.

GAMES : 18  to 17.

With only 2 matches progressing past 3 sets, it was an early finish for the  encounter between number one and two on the Ladder.

– Mallee Meats 7 (Kym Sykes 3, Nathan Beard, Jenny Leach 1) d Tankard Dental 4 (Tom Gilmour, Darren Bottams 2)

Mallee – Kym Sykes, Nathan Beard and Jenny Leach. Tankard – Tom Gilmour, Darren Bottams and Jake Hines (Fill in – Cetty Bonaccorso).

The first to the Table were Jen and Darren, with Tankards number two pretty much running away with it. Jen did her best to stay in the point, but Darren had control from the start.

Kym and Cetty were next in line, with Mallee’s Captain always in command of the match. It was a little deflating for Cetty’s, in her  first game back, but she took it on the chin.

Nathan gave Tom a scare, taking the first set in a match which was overflowing with Rallies. It was quite a tight contest, with the luck falling Tom way, to give Tankard a 2 to 1 lead, going into the first Doubles.

The combination of Kym and Nathan was turned out to be too much for Tom and Darren, with Mallee bringing the scores back to level.

Kym caught Darren on the hop as they wrangled out three sets. The first set looked like Darren wasn’t going to pick up a point, until an error from Kym let him mark one up, before Kym pounced to grab the Rubber.

The skirmish between Tom and Jen was a beauty, with Tom not wanting to mark up any loses. Jen was a bit chuffed to pick up the second set, take the fourth to 12/14, but that was all she wrote, with Tankard sneaking in to grab the Rubber.

Scores were sitting at three each, with Nathan and Cetty to face up. The first set saw both players very even and playing out some terrific rallies. It was Nathan who would come out with the win, after Cetty gave it her very best.

The last Doubles also fell to Mallee, with three competitive sets. Kym and Jen were pretty determined to pull in the win to give their team some breathing space.

The match we were all waiting for, between Kym and Tom was a little one sided, with Kym working out Tom’s play, early on, giving him his third Singles and pushing him to the top of the aggregate ladder.

This win also secured the overall victory for Mallee.

Nathan put up a great fight against Darren and although it was another three set win to Tankard, it was an exciting watch, with great placement.

Cetty and Jen were the last to hit the table and Cetty came very close to pocketing the second set, with Jen just pipping her at 12/10. The Rubber went to Jen, but it was clear to see, Cetty is going to improve very quickly.
