On Saturday Kate Carmichael had a busy day at the Ballarat Open 🏓

First up Kate teamed up with former local player Matt Avers to be runners up in the Mixed Open final. A very high standard match.

Then on to the women’s doubles, Kate partnered a Geelong player and turned the tables on a very good Croydon player and her partner, The Croydon girl had beaten Kate and Matt earlier in the mixed. This was a good win given one of the girls had pimples….. On her bat, Kate’s favourite NOT 🫣

Then to the Open ladies singles round robin, Kate won 2 matches, lost 2 matches.

She lost to the Croydon girl in 4 and then played Australian player Melissa Tapper, to Kate’s credit she won the second game against Melissa before going down 4-1.

Melissa is well known to many Sunraysia players as we played against her at the Vic Country Championships when she was a teenager.

Then the over 30’s singles which was another round robin and Kate defeated the other 4 girls to win this event. To win she had to defeat the Geelong lady that she played with to win the ladies doubles, she was a tricky lefty and Kate won in 4 👍🏓

The last event event for Kate was a singles event with a mix of males / females…. Kate played an experienced Croydon guy and in a tense 5 setter she was able to get over the line after trailing 1-2 at one stage.

Then Kate had to play John Wright from Yarrawonga and he proved difficult with pimples on one side of his bat, she battled hard and went down in close games.

Overall a successful day with wins in two events and one runners up.

I tagged along as the driver and it was the first time we had been to Ballarat, a centre with 27 tables…… Very envious.

Leon Brown don’t tell Kate I told you this but she served more faults than you have this year. 😳 Somehow she noticed my rolling eyes each time she served one 😜.

Well done Kate….. A good experience against different players and styles.
