– Weightmans Packaging 7 (Wayne Carmichael 3, Russell Walder 2) d Choices Flooring Mildura 4 (Reece Kurrle 2, Liam Wood, Daniel Jansen 1)
Weightmans Packaging have secured top position on the ladder with a hard fought 7-4 victory over bottom team Choices Flooring Mildura who have now been ruled out of the finals race. Weightmans skipper Wayne Carmichael again led the way winning three singles as well as taking part in both doubles’ victories.
Carmichael’s teammate Russell Walder showed his best form for some time winning two singles. The first doubles was a lengthy five setter with Carmichael and Walder defeating Reece Kurrle and fill in Dylan Wood 11-7 11-4 5-11 5-11 11-7. The Choices pair staged a good comeback but could not bridge the gap.
Choices skipper Reece Kurrle played well to win two singles while number three Daniel Jansen showed good form in his five-set victory over Marcus Cimino.
– Mallee Bearings 7 (Jackson Tung 3, Liam Wood 2) d Tankard Dental 4 (Rohan Reimers 2, Paul Kealley, Jamie Kealley 1)
Mallee Bearings secured second position on the ladder by defeating Tankard Dental 7-4, Tankards hopes of playing finals now gone. Bearings skipper Jackson Tung won three singles all in straight sets. He also combined with teammates Liam Wood and Tom Morrison to win both doubles.
The first doubles was the highlight match when Tung and Wood outlasted Tankards’ Rohan Reimers and Paul Kealley after trailing one game to two. The final scoreline 11-8 8-11 8-11 12-10 11-6 showed what a struggle this was.
Later in the match spectators witnessed a top-class match when Bearings number two Liam Wood picked up his second singles victory by defeating the talented Paul Kealley 11-6 9-11 11-2 7-11 13-11 a thriller.
– Cookes Pools & Spas 7 (Dylan Wood 3, Mark Dorman 2, Ed Hung 1) d Regional Taxation Services 4 (Kate Carmichael 2, Thanh Nguyen 1)
Cookes Pools & Spas locked themselves into fourth position and a finals spot by defeating third placed Regional Taxation Services 7-4. The standout player in this contest was the hard-hitting Cooke’s number two
Dylan Wood who won three singles, he started with an outstanding straight sets win, 13-11 11-7 11-9 victory over opposing number one Kate Carmichael. Later in the match when the scores were locked at five rubbers all Wood then needed to recover from a one -two deficit against Thanh Nguyen to win in a close encounter 7-11 11-7 9-11 11-7 11-9, this giving his team the all-important four points.
Wood’s teammate Ed Hung then boosted his teams’ percentage by defeating Jason Gifkins again 11-9 in the fifth. Apart from Wood winning three, skipper Mark Dorman chipped in with two singles in this solid victory. With one round to play and if results go the right way for them Cookes can grab third spot on the ladder with one round to play.

– Mallee Meats 6 John Fitzpatrick (3), Mark Cleary (2) defeated Weightman’s Packaging 3 Josh Arnold (2), Harry Gujral (1).
In round 9, it was 2 versus 2 for Meats and Weightmans. Both team’s number 3 players were unable to play on the night, but the ensuing contest was no less entertaining; highlights include the doubles match which went to five sets, and Meat’s Mark Cleary giving it his all against Weightman’s Josh Arnold in another thrilling five setter.
The night began at 2-2, with both teams already having two rubbers on the scoreboard by virtue of forfeit due to the missing players. By that logic, the fifth rubber was the first game actually played; Fitzpatrick vs Gujral with the former taking the win in three 11-6, 12-10, 11-4. On to the doubles match which saw both sides unwilling to give their opponents an inch; Weightman’s Arnold and Gujral nabbed the first set 12-10,
Meat’s Fitzpatrick and Cleary then took the second 11-9, but slipped in the third, losing 10-12. Despite being 2-1 up, Weightmans couldn’t seal the deal and went down in the fourth and fifth sets 11-5, 11-6.
Weightmans recovered some ground with Arnold’s win over Cleary in the next game. Arnold took the first set 11-8, but Cleary didn’t make it easy; taking the next two sets 11-6, 11-9. Arnold then struggled through to a win with the next two sets, winning 11-8 and 11-9. The score sat at 4 games to 3, so Weightmans couldn’t afford to lose either of the remaining two matches. But Meats showed no mercy, with Fitzpatrick besting Arnold in three sets, 12-10, 11-9, 11-8 and Cleary taking out Gujral in four 7-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-5.
Final score 6 rubbers to 3 and 20 games to 12.
– Pinnacle Packers 6 Rasin Bhuiyan (2), Duy Truong (1), Mark Cleary (1), Therese Fitzpatrick (1) defeated Cookes Pools & Spas 5 Ashley Morrison (3), David Sergi (0), Peter Fitzpatrick (1).
More fill-ins were required for Packers and Cooke’s match with Peter Fitzpatrick subbing for Nhat Dat and both Duy Truong and Mark Cleary filling in for Ryan Peterson, Cleary playing just one game and Truong the remaining three.
The opening match featured two of said fill-ins, Fitzpatrick going up against Cleary, with the latter coming out on top 11-5, 11-6, 11-5. Morrison then took on the younger Fitzpatrick and won in four 11-6, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6. Cooke’s David Sergi, who has been playing some of his best table tennis the last few rounds, was unable to win any of his singles matches this round. The first of these losses was to Bhuiyan, who took the win in four sets 5-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-3. Packers duo Bhuiyan and Truong then got themselves to the halfway mark after the first doubles, bringing the score to 3-1 with a win over Cooke’s Morrison and Sergi after being down 2 sets to zero. Cookes took the first two sets 13-11, 11-9 and looked poised to take the match, but Packers found their strength and turned the game around in spectacular fashion, stealing the next three sets 11-6, 11-9, 11-5.
Cookes responded to this disappointing result by taking the next game; Morrison defeating Truong in three 13-11, 11-6, 13-11. Bhuiyan continued his team’s progress with a win over Fitzpatrick also in three sets 11-4, 11-8, 11-5. Teammate Therese Fitzpatrick then won the next battle, taking down Sergi, 12-10, 11-8, 13-11 putting the score at 5-2. After the defeat of the first doubles, Cookes were determined to win the second doubles, which they did after four difficult sets 11-9, 14-12, 5-11, 11-7.
Captain Morrison was able to slow Packers down with a victory over Bhuiyan in straight sets 11-8, 11-3, 12-10, but it would not be enough, with the next rubber sealing Cooke’s fate. Sergi had no luck against Truong, taking the first set 11-9 but losing the next three 11-7, 11-4, 11-3.
Despite the overall loss, Peter Fitzpatrick managed to get one singles win over daughter Therese in the final rubber, 11-8, 11-8, 5-11, 11-3.
Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 21 games to 19.

PENNANT THREE:
The two top teams held their positions on the Ladder, after round 9, with some sensational matches. In the battle between Mallee Meats and Exposed Signage, luckily neither team needed any fill in’s and many of the matches came to a conclusion quickly. But there was one ripper five set contested, which was between the undefeated Karly Leach and Steve Parker.

Weightman’s Packaging had to call on Sabrina Fitzpatrick to take the place of Nick Kiapekos, which may have been the deciding factor in their win against Sammy’s Slammers, with Sabrina winning 3 Singles.
Regional Taxation started off with one fill in, but unfortunately Nathan Beard injured his knee part way through the night and was unable to play on.
– Mallee Meats 7 (Karly Leach 3, Curtis Crabtree 2. Jenny Leach 1) d Exposed Signage/Apparel 4 (Steve Parker 2, Ted Cleary 1)
TEAMS : Mallee – # 1 – Karly Leach, # 2 – Curtis, # 3 – Jenny Leach. Exposed – # 1 – Steve Parker, # 2 – Ted Cleary, # 3 – Connor Burnett.
As mentioned Karly had another amazing night, collecting wins in all her singles and one of the Doubles. Steve gave it his very best to end her run, forcing the action to five thrilling sets.
Curtis struggled to get the better of Steve, but he pulled out some outstanding shots against Ted and Connor to leave with two comfortable wins.
Young ten year old Ted has a game well above his years and plays with remarkable confidence. But Karly’s experience had him scratching his head in frustration.
The Leach, Daughter and Mother combination were as pleased as punch to pulled in another win in their Doubles match, which was pushed to four sets.
Connor has some awesome shots, which puzzled Jen for a bit, taking two sets to 9, with the Rubber falling to Mallee Meats.
RESULTS : Jenny lost to Steve (3/11, 7/11,7/11), Karly defeated Connor (11/7, 11/3, 11/2), Curtis lost to Steve (6/11, 6/11, 9/11). Karly and Curtis lost to Steve and Ted (7/11, 4/11, 10/12). – Weightmans Packaging 6 (Sabrina Fitzpatrick 3, Maria Starikov, Gary Leach 1) d Sammy’s Slammers 5 (Sam Campbell, Deegan Kerslake 2)
TEAMS : Sammy’s – # 1 – Sam Campbell, # 2 – Deegan Kerslake, # 3 – Raylee Waugh (filling in for Andrew Jefferies).
Sam and Deegan once again gave it their all for the Slammers, both collecting two rubbers each and combining well to take the win in the first doubles. But it was Sabrina who stopped them in their tracks, constructing some excellent points, with the match against Sam, producing an epic five set contest of high powered, slams, slices, cuts and dices.
Gary made Deegan work for his win in their last set, pressing him out to 14.
Maria and Gary both picked up a Rubber for Weightman’s, which together with a Doubles win, handed them an overall victory.
RESULTS : Raylee lost to Maria (8/11, 6/11, 9/11), Sam defeated Gary (11/9, 11/5, 11/5), Deegan lost to Sabrina (3/11, 5/11, 7/11). – Dunkley Scales 7 (Koby Grace, Ildi Healy 2, Hayden Wilson 1) d Regional Taxation Services 4 (Bey Hwak 2, Tom Gilmour, Mark Cleary 1)
TEAMS : Dunkley – # 1 – Koby Grace, # 2 Hayden Wilson, # 3 Ildi Healy. Regional – # 1 – Hwak Beh (filling in for Steve Pongrac), # 2 – Tom Gilmour, # 3 – Nathan Beard (and Mark Cleary).
It was unfortunate for Regional to lose Nathan from the team and we wish him well with his Knee injury.
Hwak is proving to be a reliable fill in for Regional, amassing some very good wins, adding two Rubbers this week.
Tom and Koby went all out in their match, with Tom’s perfect placement of his spin shots and Koby’s power play. The skirmish continued for five exhilarating sets, until Tom took control in the last. Mark played left handed, which proved to be a hurdle too high, when he came up against Koby.
I think Ildi has taken on a few tips from Maria’s defensive tactics, as she is building her own wall and gathered two singles wins and added a doubles.
RESULTS : Ildi lost to Hwak (11/5, 9/11, 7/11, 9/11), Koby defeated Mark (11/6, 14/12, 13/15, 11/6), Hayden defeated Tom (11/9, 11/8, 4/11, 11/8).
