– Cookes Pools & Spas 6 (Jackson Tung, Paul Kealley 2, Russell Walder 1) d Mallee Bearings 5 (Arhuang (Wong) Lau, Mark Dorman 2)
Lau has been an outstanding recruit this season and it took a special opponent to break through for his first defeat. Kealley is a leftie and an excellent tennis player bringing some unorthodox angles to his table tennis game. He also possesses some strong forehands which can confuse his opponent. Lau took the first game comfortably however from there

Kealley was able to control the next three games winning in four 3-11 11-7 11-9 11-8 this being Kealley’s best pennant one win. This took Cookes to a three – one lead and when Cookes skipper Jackson Tung defeated Bearings number three Tom Morrison, Cookes had moved to a 4-2 lead.
As expected, Mallee Bearings fought back and levelled the match courtesy of Mark Dorman winning two singles and Lau was able to recover from a one game to two deficit in a top-class match to defeat Tung in a top class match consisting of many strong forehand rallies.
With the score at five rubbers all Cookes, Russell Walder was able to gain the ascendancy against Tom Morrison winning in three sets and more importantly the four points as the ladder begins to tighten up.
– Regional Taxation Services 7 (Matt Ljubic 3, Jamie Kealley, Thanh Nguyen 2) d Choices Flooring Mildura 4 (Wayne Carmichael 2)
With Mallee Bearings losing their first match second placed Regional Taxation Services moved to within one win of first place when they outlasted Choices Flooring Mildura 7-4.

Skipper Matt Ljubic showed the way winning three singles including a straight sets victory over the inform Wayne Carmichael. Carmichael was controlling the first game with a lead of 10-7 however from here Ljubic took control going on to win 12-10 11-6 11-8, his best win since returning to table tennis this season.
Ljubic’s teammates Jamie Kealley and Thanh Nguyen also played key roles in the victory each winning two singles and each winning a five setter late in the match to secure an important victory for Regional Taxation Services. Despite his singles loss Choices, Carmichael was able to win two singles and took part in both doubles wins.
– Weightmans Packaging 6 (Shannon Bowen, Reece Kurrle 2) d Tankard Dental 5 (Kate Carmichael 3, Rohan Reimers, Ed Hung 1)
Fifth placed Weightmans Packaging kept themselves in the finals race with a solid 6-5 win over third placed Tankard Dental. The two doubles proved to be the difference in this contest with Weightmans winning both. Shannon Bowen and

Reece Kurrle proved too consistent winning the important points against Tankard’s Kate Carmichael and Rohan Reimers taking the match in four sets 14-12 10-12 11-5 15-13.
The second doubles was a lengthy five setter with Bowen combining with Lee Leeson in a nail biter to defeat Carmichael and Ed Hung 9-11 11-9 11-3 9-11 11-9, what a match.
In the wash up it was both the doubles and two singles wins each to Bowen and Kurrle to enable the Weightmans trio to take the important four points. For Tankards Kate Carmichael moved to third in the singles aggregate with three singles victories alongside Matt Ljubic.

Choices Flooring Mildura 6 Ashley Morrison (2), Terry Martin (1), Andrew Jones (1) defeated Cookes Pools & Spas 5 Quentin Clark (2), Duy Truong (3), Michael Tan (0).
Tan was up first against Martin, and he put up a good fight but lost in three 4-11, 10-12, 8-11. Captain Clark then defeated Jones in straight sets 11-7, 11-5, 11-2 and then

Truong won the first of his three singles, besting skipper Morrison again in straight sets 11-4, 11-9, 11-5. Clark and Truong then paired up for the first doubles but couldn’t topple the Choices Flooring duo of Morrison and Martin. Choices Flooring took the first set 12-10, then Cookes regrouped and won the next two 11-6, 11-6. Choices Flooring then got to work and fought Cookes back, taking the last two sets 11-4, 11-7, tying the game score 2-2.
Martin then gave Clark some trouble in their match with Martin winning the first set 11-6, but Clark fought his way back, eventually winning in four sets 11-6, 11-6, 16-14. Morrison then took his second win by downing Tan in three 11-7, 11-5, 11-9. Truong then confidently defeated Jones in straight sets 11-4, 11-4, 11-5, bringing the score to 4-3. Cookes were now closing in on the win, but Choices Flooring confounded their efforts by denying them the second doubles win, with Choices Flooring snatching the win after a tough four-set battle 11-3, 11-9, 15-17, 12-10.
Now 4 rubbers all, Morrison snatched his team’s fifth rubber, downing Clark in straight sets 11-6, 11-4, 11-5. Meanwhile Truong levelled it 5 rubbers all with a win over Martin 11-7, 16-14, 11-6.

The tie-breaker match-up was then Tan versus Jones with the experienced Jones winning smoothly in three 11-8, 11-4, 11-3.
Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 19 games to 18.
Mallee Meats 8 Jason Gifkins (3), Harry Gujral (2), James Jarvis (1) defeated Pinnacle Packers 3 Marcus Cimino (2), Peter Midgley (1), Peter Fitzpatrick (0).
Mallee Meats continued to dominate in round 7 despite a close loss against Weightmans Packaging in round 6, giving no quarter to fifth placed Pinnacle Packers with an 8-3 win. Skipper Gifkins was on point winning his three singles matches while No. 2 Gujral rocked the boat, winning two singles and taking opposing No.1 Cimino all the way in a nail-biting five setter.
In the night’s opening match, Gujral cleaned up Fitzpatrick soundly 11-6, 11-1, 11-3, while Cimino got his first on the board, besting Jarvis in four 11-7, 11-4, 5-11,11-6. Midgley then managed to steal a set from Gifkins but could do no more, losing 7-11,11-9, 11-4, 11-5. Meats turned up the pressure in the first doubles, winning in straight sets 12-10, 11-7, 11-9, sprinting ahead at 3 rubbers to 1.
Gujral then threw everything he had at Cimino, and nearly walked away with the win, going down after 5 hard fought sets 13-11, 10-12, 7-11,12-10, 8-11. Gifkins then dealt with Fitzpatrick, winning in three sets 11-4, 15-13, 11-8 and then Jarvis took on Midgley losing the first set 4-11, then recovering and taking the next two 11-3, 11-8 but Midgley proved too strong and Jarvis went down in the fourth and fifth 11-4, 11-6. Meats tightened the screws on
Packers in the second doubles, winning in straight sets 13-11, 12-10, 11-5, bringing the game score to 5-3 in Meat’s favour.
It was then time for the two No. 1s to face off, with Cimino fighting hard but failing to get the job done, losing 9-11, 11-7, 14-16, 4-11, ceding the victory to Meats 6-3.

The tenth rubber then saw Midgley and Gujral engage in a long scrap with Gujral coming out on top in the end, 10-12, 12-10, 6-11, 11-7, 11-6. And in the last, Jarvis got his only singles win for the night, besting Fitzpatrick in three 11-2, 12-10, 11-4.
Final score 8 rubbers to 3 and 29 games to 13.

In the other match it was third on the ladder Regional Taxation Services up against second placed Exposed Signage/Apparel who were coming off a strong defeat last week against Weightmans Packaging, could they bounce back?
In the singles aggregate race second placed Deegan Kerslake won three singles compared to leader Dat’s two, meaning Deegan trails by two while Steve Parker is one further back after winning three.

– Exposed Signage/Apparel 9 (Deegan Kerslake 3, Karly Leach, Brenden Johnson 2) d Regional Taxation Services 2 (Sabrina Fitzpatrick, Sam Campbell 1)
Going in to this match both teams were on three wins with the Exposed team holding sway by percentage in second position. There was no sign of what was to come after the first three singles with Exposed’s Deegan Kerslake taking the first match in four sets over Hayden Wilson who tried very hard as always. Regional Taxation Services skipper Sabrina Fitzpatrick then accounted for opposing number three Brendon Johnson in an entertaining four setter. In round one when they met Sabrina won in five and this again was a real tussle with Sabrina winning in four. Brendon is on the improve and he almost forced his more fancied opponent to a fifth.
To complete the first block of three singles RTS number two Sam Campbell coming off three singles wins last round matched up against Exposed’s skipper Karly Leach and in a top class four set match it was Sam taking the points 12-10 13-11 12-14 11-9 each game separated by two points.

The score stood at two rubbers to one in favour of Regional Taxation Services going in to the first doubles and from here it was a landslide in favour of the Exposed team who would win the next nine rubbers in an outstanding effort. The next two matches could have gone either way however Karly and Deegan were able to recover from a one game to two deficit to defeat Sabrina and Sam 12-10 10-12 8-11 11-5 11-5.
Deegan continued his good form in singles matches when he too recovered from a one game to two deficit to outlast the more experienced Sabrina Fitzpatrick in a thriller 8-11 11-7 9-11 11-9 11-9 a great battle to the end. Karly then defeated Hayden Wilson in three close sets 11-8 13-11 11-8 a game effort by Hayden.
The score was now 4-2 in favour of Exposed and when Brendon Johnson scored one of his best wins for the season defeating Samantha Campbell in straight sets. Sam has been in excellent form of late however Brendon after purchasing a new bat was on fire. Brendon then combined with Karly to defeat Sam and Hayden in the second singles to secure the four points for Exposed Signage/Apparel which will enable them to go one win clear from their opponents.
Exposed were now on a roll and went on to win the final three singles. The final match was another five setter, and it was Brendon who was able to defeat Hayden 11-6 8-11 11-3 7-11 11-2.
In an outstanding team performance for the Exposed trio, 15-year-old Deegan won three singles to move to within two wins of the leader in the singles race. Both teammates Karly Leach and Brendon Johnson won two singles each in a very strong performance.
Winner: Exposed Signage/Apparel 9 d Regional Taxation Services 2
Games: 29 to 14
– Weightmans Packaging 7 (Steve Parker 3, Nhat Dat 2, Leo Parker 1) d Sammy’s Slammers 4 (Ryan Hensgen 2, Dave Tanner 1)
Top team Weightmans Packaging had secured the four points by the seventh rubber in this match however two five setters could have made a huge difference.

With Weightmans leading three rubbers to one Weightmans number two Steve Parker lined up against Sammy’s Slammers number one Ryan Hensgen and what a match this was. Steve won the first game however Ryan steamed through the second and the match went game for game to level at two all, the fifth was close and in a thriller steady Steve remained calm to win 11-9 3-11 11-7 8-11 11-9.
The second crucial five setter featured Weightman’s Leo Parker up against fill in Hayden Wilson , Hayden was off to a flyer winning the first two games before Leo commenced the comeback, he won the third comfortably however the fourth and fifth were point for point and in a marathon it was Leo who took the match 9-11 7-11 11-4 11-9 11-9 , a great match involving two youngsters on the improve.
This win by Leo secured the four points for his team however with a little more luck the Slammers may have been celebrating their first win. For Weightmans Steve Parker went on to win three singles for the second time this season and he goes to third on the singles aggregate. Teammate Nhat Dat won two singles while Leo Parker won one in an even team display.
Weightmans Packaging remain undefeated at the top of the ladder after seven rounds.
For the Slammers Ryan Hensgen recorded two singles victories to continue his solid form of late, his four-set victory over aggregate leader Nhat Dat was commendable.
A big thank you to Hayden Wilson who doubled up for Koby Grace at late notice playing double the normal number of matches in a busy night for him.

Wow, hard to believe we have completed 7 rounds already. How time fly’s when your having fun. There were some very comprehensive wins this week and as would be expected, they came from the two top teams on the Ladder.
Only one fill in was needed, in our Pennant, which made life a little easier for Gavin.

– Tankard Dental 7 (Leanne Wilson 3, Ildi Healy 2, Jakob Grzan 1) d Mallee Meats 4 (Tom Gilmour 2, Curtis Crabtree 1)
Mallee : Curtis Crabtree, Nathan Beard (Fill in Tom Gilmour) and Conner Burnett. Tankard : Leanne Wilson, Ildi Healy and Jakob Grzan.
Mallee made a good start to the evening, pocketing two of the first set of Singles Rubbers. First up Curtis defeated Jakob, but not before Tankards number three gave him a scare, with the first set going to 12 / 10. With Curtis comfortably winning the next two (12/10, 11/4, 11/6). Connor hardly had time to take a breath, when he came up against Leanne, with the three sets only accumulating 7 points for young Connor (11/1, 11/3, 11/3). Tom’s battle against Ildi saw some exciting rallies, with Ildi giving it her best shot, but it wasn’t quite enough to stop Tom’s sneaky slices (12/10, 5/11, 13/11, 11/7).
Ildi bounced back with a win, when she paired up with Leanne in the first Doubles. They faced up to Curtis and Tom which, although it went the way of Tankard, was a well fought match (11/8, 11/8, 11/6).

It seems when Jakob and Connor fight it out, the match usually is pushed out to five sets. But this time Jakob played an exceptional game and finished off the contest in an exhilarating three setter (11/9, 11/9, 11/9). This now put Tankard in the lead, with a full on tussle about to begin, between Curtis and Ildi. Both showed some terrific skills with the eventual win being claimed by Ildi (9/11, 11/5, 11/8, 6/11, 11/9). Tom snatched the first set when he wrestled it out with Leanne, but the pressure was on, as Tankard’s Captain has been very difficult to take a win from. In the end, Tom fell to the Leanne trap, going down in four (8/11, 11/2, 11/8, 15/13).
With Tankard holding a mighty 5 to 2 lead, it was essential for Mallee to win all remaining Rubbers. Curtis and Connor, faced Leanne and Jakob and I think Connor was determined to make up for his earlier loss. It was very tight all the way, but Mallee found the secret ingredient and pulled in a win (9/11, 12/10, 11/7, 12/10).
Connor now had to continue his form from the previous match, to keep his team in the running. It was a ding dong skirmish, with Ildi focusing 100% on each shot, it was enough for her to break through in the five set winner for Tankard to grab the be rewarded with the nights win (8/11, 11/3, 7/11, 11/6, 11/7).
With two matches still to play Jakob showed his ability to force a match all the way. He came up against Tom, which is no mean feat and gave him a real run for his money. Tom took control of the match in the last two sets, but wow, little Jakob is showing some true grit (11/5, 8/11, 8/11, 11/4, 11/4). Curtis put Leanne under pressure in the second set of their clash, with Leanne making it another run of three singles to increase her lead in the aggregate (11/9, 16/14, 11/6).
WINNER : Tankard Dental 7 to Mallee Meats 4.
GAMES : 25 to 17.
– Weightmans Packaging 8 (Glenn Leeson 3, Gary Leach 2, Eddie Parker 1) d Dunkley Scales 3 (Maria Starikov 2, Jenny Leach 1)
Dunkley : Maria Starikov, Jen Leach and Jake Hines. Weightman’s : Glenn Leeson, Gary Leach and Eddie Parker.
This contest was always going to be a difficult challenge for Dunkley, but the effort towards winning would still be at a high.
First to face the music was Jake, who was up against Gary. The match wasn’t lengthy, but there were some great shots from both player. It was a little too much for Jake in the finish, with the first Rubber going to Weightman’s (11/4, 11/5, 11/2). Maria evened it up, when she stood up to Eddie, with both having a similar game style, in keeping that ball on the Table, as long as possible, which of course leads to Rally after Rally (13/11, 11/4, 11/9). It was another quick encounter, when Jen tried to get a win for Dunkley. Yes, she tried, but couldn’t keep up with Glenn’s amazing game, with twists and turns on every shot, which ended in a three setter (11/8, 11/8, 11/4).
Glenn and Gary were fronting up to Maria and Jen in the first Doubles, which turned out going in favor of Weightman’s. There were many tricky shots from both sides of the table, with Dunkley’s pairing not having what it takes to grasp a win, putting them 3 to 1 down (11/5, 11/6, 7/11, 11/6).
Maria’s stable game nine times out of ten brings home a win and this marked up her second Rubber, when she played against Weightman’s number two. Gary took the first set, with the next three falling to Dunkley, giving them a little breathing space (9/11, 11/7, 11/4, 11/9). Jake took on Glenn in his second Single match, which was a bit of a smashing for Dunkley. Glenn produced some excellent shots, not leaving Jake anywhere to go, except back to his seat (11/1, 11/1, 11/4). As mentioned earlier, Eddie has a very defensive game and very good reflexes, making for lengthy games. Just when you think you have him on the ropes, back he pops. Jen eventually came up with the goods, but not before a well fought match (11/7, 5/11, 11/7, 8/11, 11/8).
The Rubbers now standing at 4 to 3, Weightman’s way, with the final Doubles crucial to both teams. The tide once again flowed across to Weightmans, with Maria and Jake, playing against Glenn and Eddie. Once again it came down to who could keep the ball on that Table the longest and this tumbled the way to Glenn’s pairing in three sets (11/5, 11/8, 11/7).

Weightman’s required just one more Rubber to clean up for the night. It would have been thought Maria may have snuck in a set or two from Glenn, but his determination ended the match pretty quickly, giving his team a deserving win and leaving with all three singles and both double to his name (11/5, 11/7, 11/3). The wrestle between the two Leach’s seemed to be never ending, with one winning a point, just to see it being leveled in the next point. Gary kept his cool this time around, which helped him pull back the last set, in a lengthy five set skirmish, adding a 7th Rubber to Weightmans list (11/9, 12/10, 6/11, 8/11, 11/8). The last match for the night was between Jake and Eddie and it didn’t take long for Eddie to charge home with a victory and a very comprehensive win to Weightman’s (11/2, 11/6, 11/5).
