Super 8’s Final lists and preview!

PENNANT ONE:

After an outstanding Summer season Wayne Carmichael goes into the finals in good shape. His side Weightmans Packaging have claimed the minor premiership and having not lost a singles game (30 from 30) during the 10 rounds will make Wayne favourite in Monday nights Super 8’s competition. There is however some tough competition and one could expect to see Jackson Tung and Kate Carmichael going deep into this final. Given that Kate plays Jackson in the first round, the ramifications for the loser could be significant given they potentially would have to go through Waynes side of the draw to reach the Holy Grail.

Footnote: Wayne is also striving for – The Gold Shirt triple crown! – Team – Agg & Super 8’s. Given that the most capped player in Stta history has not claimed a Gold shirt over the years is a mystery in itself which makes Waynes finals campaign all the more interesting.

PENNANT TWO:

The rise of Rasin! In what can only be described as a breakout season, P2 Aggregate winner Rasin Bhuiyan has taken the title over pre season favourite Ash Morrison by a single rubber after Morrison lost to John Fitzpatrick in the final game of the Summer. The two big improvers of the Summer have been Bhuiyan and Fitzpatrick and we could expect the eventual winner to come from this group but a refreshed Josh Arnold and team mate Harry Gujral could be the Smokey’s in what is usually an unpredictable Pennant 2.

Footnote: We again look at the 2 v 3 in the first round as having a big bearing on the Grand Final. John Fitzpatrick has beaten Ash Morrison in their last two outings and the winner of this first round match would likely avoid Bhuiyan until the Grand Final.

PENNANT THREE:

Another power performer in Karly Leach who went through the season unbeaten in singles (30 from 30) to win the Aggregate by 6 rubbers. She is no stranger to Super 8’s titles having won previously from longer odds and in both formats – Fast 15’s and traditional. Although the gap has closed with Steve Parker, Deegan Kerslake and Sam Campbell all having moments against Karly in the season.

Footnote: Karly is also vying for the triple Crown gold shirt having picked up the Aggregate.
