John Duscher Keeping a keen eye on STTA action !
The Phantom got to thinking this week and wanted to know who is the best when it comes to five setters, who is the player you just don’t want to play if its two sets all and you going into a deciding 5th set. So the phantom has done his homework looks at theWinter Pennant action, ranks every player from Pennant one through to Pennant four and throws in a few thoughts on the way. |
Mark Ljubic: The Phantom thinks that if you run into Mark Ljubic or Shannon Bowen and it’s the start of the 5th set u better bring out your “A” game if you want to end up on the winning side. Mark Dorman and Dillion Chambers also doing extremely well . Gavin Carmichael and Andrew Cannard having played a few five setters and have a bit of work to do to improve on their five set record. The Phantom won’t be giving both Carmicheal and Cannard any more advice then, that as they both have been playing table tennis for longer than the Phantom has been walking.

PENNANT 2
Damien Ford : This Pennant is dominated by five setters each and every week and many players have played a high amount of five setters. The stand out player in Pennant two is far and away Damien Ford . In second place is Damien’s team mate young gun Samuel McDonnell . It’s easy to see why there team is sitting at the pointy end of the ladder. Now down towards the bottom we have a few players that are struggling to win their five set matches. The Phantom will not be commenting on Lee Thomas’s five set record cause as soon as she see this article will fire up and rocket towards the top. The Phantom has learnt the hard way not to mess with Lee Thomas! Please note that this article in no way was written by Damien Ford, but should be included on his resume as a person that deals with pressure very well.

PENNANT 3Both Jackson Murphy and Leon ‘The Money Man’ Brown are the leaders in Pennant 3 when it comes to five set matches, but it is Murphy that is undefeated . No shock to learn that Murphy leads the Pennant in wins, it shows that winning the five setter is what will help one on his way to a big year. On the other end of the ladder both the Peter (Kelly) is looking for his first five set win of the year. The Phantom thinks these boys need to pull their socks up, it’s time to get u hands dirty boys.

PENNANT 4
The fast improving Andrew Lewis leads Pennant 4 for five setters with a very impressive record, Andrew clearly showing that winning the five setter is the key to making a quick rise up the pennant 4 aggregate. Jeremy Corrin also going very well winning. Down the bottom of the ladder is the pennant 4 aggregate leader Brian Hosking, whom has not yet had a five set match. Brian seems to have learnt a secret that we should all learn and that is the key to being undefeated is to not play any five set matches. Well done Brian!
