The very much in form number one seed Jamie Kealley may have been the slight favourite going in to this event, his previous five weeks had been outstanding and over the season the only player he had not defeated was Wong who he had only played once earlier in the season.
Jamie played number four seed Reece Kurrle in round one, these two hit the ball extremely hard and it was Reece who took the first game before Jamie took control to win well in four and advance to the preliminary final.

Number two seed Kate Carmichael lined up against number three Jackson Tung in the first round, the top four players have a double chance. For some reason these two have met several times in the first round of the Super 8’s and more often than not the match eventuates in to a

five setter and this was no different with Jackson winning 11-3 5-11 12-10 5-11 11-6, a great match.

In the knockout first round matches fifth seed Rohan Reimers eliminated Mark Dorman in straight sets while seventh seed ArHuang Lau Wong accounted for the dangerous Paul Kealley.

Wong finished seventh in the aggregate as he missed four rounds and in reality he was a big chance to take the title as he had lost only one match in the six rounds he played.

To the semi finals, firstly Reece Kurrle after dropping the first game against the persistent Rohan Reimers, fought back to win in four sets to set up a preliminary final against Jackson Tung.
Meanwhile in the other semi final it was Kate versus Wong and this was to be the second five set match of the night and what a spectacle it was.

Throughout the season Kate was the only player to defeat Wong and in this match she started strongly taking the first two games by negating Wong’s strong attacking play. Wong remained calm and fought back to take the third and fourth games. The fifth featured some excellent table tennis as Wong played some powerful forehands only for Kate to keep the ball in play and then play some winners of her own on her trusty backhand. In a thrilling climax Kate was able to grab the match by the barest of margins, 11-7 11-5 8-11 7-11 13-11, well played by both players.
Preliminary Finals

Two tremendous four setters here with number four seed Reece off to a flyer against number three Jackson T, Reece seemed to breeze through the first and second games before Jackson controlled the third, the fourth was close and in the end Reece had proven too consistent winning 11-6 11-4 6-11 13-11, Reece the first in to the final.
The other prelim featured young gun and number one seed Jamie against number two Kate, the first was close with Kate winning by the barest of margins, she then contolled the second despite Jamie hitting the ball very hard on both sides of the body.

Jamie forced his way back in to the match winning the third narrowly. Kate took a healthy lead in the fourth forcing several errors from which Jamie could not recover. Kate had advanced to the final with a four set victory 13-11 11-6 9-11 11-5.
Grand Final

This was number two seed Kate versus number four Reece.

Reece posseses a hard hitting game on both the forehand and backhand and controlled the first game forcing Kate in to errors, circumstances changed from here on as Reece was unable to sustain his first game form with Kate taking control and going on to win in four sets 8-11 11-5 11-4 11-4.

A great effort by Reece to make the final and he has enjoyed a successful 2025 ![]()
This was back to back Super 8’s for Kate having also won the Winter Super 8’s earlier in the year.
In a busy year she played in five tournaments to qualify to play for Victoria in the Over 30’s Ladies team at the National Veterans Championships in Queensland in October where she won a silver medal in the Mixed Doubles and a Bronze Medal in the ladies doubles.

Congratulations Kate

In other first round matches it was second seed Rasin Bhuiyan against team mate and number three seed Michael Tan, Rasin maintained the edge in this match winning in three sets to advance to the preliminary final.

This went to five sets and in an exciting finish Harry took the match 11-8 9-11 11-8 5-11 11-8 against the improving James.
To the semi finals, Josh played Therese and amazingly took the first 11-1 however from here Therese took control to win in four while in the other semi Michael Tan was outstanding defeating Harry in straight sets.

Duy grabbed the lead in the fifth to hang on and win 11-7 11-8 11-13 9-11 11-7. A plucky effort from Michael however Duy was in to the final.

Meanwhile in the other prelim, Therese proved too steady for Rasin winning in straight sets. A great effort by the number four seed Therese to make the final.

The final, Back to where we started from with Duy playing Therese and in an an outstanding start Therese raced out of the blocks early taking the first narrowly before playing outstanding table tennis in the second to take a two games to love lead.
Many may have buckled under the pressure however Duy was able to weather the storm and Therese’s ferocious forehands to recover from this deficit to claw his way back to only concede 12 points in the final three games. Therese had been very brave in defeat while Duy should be commended given the start of the match by Therese, the final score in Duy’s favour 12-14 5-11 11-4 11-7 11-1, a strong finish.

Congratulations Duy, the Pennant Two Summer 2025 Super 8’s champion

Yen Hwak finished first in the aggregate and went into this event as the favourite. In his first match he proved too strong for Maria Starikov winning comfortably in three sets.

Third and fourth seeds Tom Gilmour and Glenn Leeson then played an outstanding five set marathon with Tom taking the points.
In the knockout matches, Jakob Grzan proved too good for Andrew Jeffries who came in at late notice, thanks Andrew. Nathan Beard was eliminated in four sets by the consistent Jenny Leach.

Maria then played Jakob in one of the semis and this was an excellent battle, Maria won the first two games while the fast improving Jakob proved too good taking the third and fourth. The fifth was a wrestle and in the end Maria prevailed to the Preliminary final.
In the other semi team mates Jenny Leach and Glenn Leeson became foes for this event and what a match it proved to be….. A marathon of many long rallies and in a bitter sweet moment it was Jenny who took the points in a very good win 3-11 11-9 11-7 2-11 11-9 a heart stopper.
By defeating Glenn, Jen then had to play Yen. She did well to win the third game but the pre event favourite proved too good and booked a place in the final.
In the other Preliminary Final Maria played Tom and this match went on and on. Maria took the first narrowly while Tom took the second, the third saw Maria break away and now lead two games to one. Tom fought back to win the fourth while Maria then upped the ante, to win in a lengthy five set struggle 12-14 12-10 11-5 10-12 11-5 what a win and now Maria was the other finalist.

Yen and Maria then faced off for the title and whilst their meeting in the first round had been one sided this time Maria forced more errors from Yen however he would prove too consistent claiming the Super 8’s title in straight sets 11-7 11-5 11-8.

Maria had played well to make the final however Yen had been a worthy winner of the title and now is two thirds of the way to winning a “Gold” shirt as his team is playing off in the grand final

….Congratulations Yen
