– Mallee Bearings 9 (Arhuang Lau, Mark Dorman 3, Tom Morrison 1) d Weightmans Packaging 2 (Shannon Bowen, Reece Kurrle 1)
On paper going in to this round Mallee Bearings and Weightman’s Packaging looked an even contest however this was not to be the case as early in the match Bearings experienced number two Mark Dorman defeated Shannon Bowen in four sets, Dorman like his skipper Lau would go on to win three singles while they won both doubles to strengthen their dominance.

Tom Morrison, the Mallee Bearings number three played his part in the victory by winning a singles and partnering Lau to a win in the second doubles.
– Regional Taxation Services 6 (Matt Ljubic 3, Jamie Kealley 2, Thanh Nguyen 1) d Tankard Dental 5 (Kate Carmichael 2, Rohan Reimers 1)

Following this match Tankards Reimers kept his team alive temporarily when he recovered to defeat Thahn Nguyen in a thriller 7-11 7-11 11-8 16-14 11-9.

Pinnacle Packers 6 Marcus Cimino (3), Peter Midgely (2), Peter Fitzpatrick (1) defeated Weightman’s Packaging 5 John Fitzpatrick (2), Sony Sefer (1), Therese Fitzpatrick (0).
It could not have been any closer in this round 3 match-up wherein Weightman’s Packaging got off to a great start and even though they picked up both doubles matches they fell short to Pinnacle Packers who slowly regained their momentum late in the evening.
In the first game, veteran Sefer picked off Peter Fitzpatrick in three sets 11-5, 11-5, 11-6 and then daughter Therese Fitzpatrick suffered a loss to Packers’ skipper Cimino 7-11, 6-11, 8-11. Opposing captain John Fitzpatrick then struggled in the first set against Midgley but came through in the third to take the win 17-15,11-4,11-9. Both doubles matches made up 2 out of 3 of the five-setters between Packers and Weightmans that night and both were fought down to the wire. In the first, Cimino and Midgley took the first set 11-8, Weightman’s Fitzpatrick and Sefer retaliating with a 11-6 win in the second, Packers digging deep and taking the third 11-4, but they couldn’t keep pace with Weightmans and dropped the next two 5-11, 8-11.
Cimino then cleaned up Sefer confidently in three 11-5, 11-9, 11-8 and John Fitzpatrick went up against father Peter and took another singles win, 11-5, 11-9, 11-7. Midgley took his team’s third rubber with a victory over Therese Fitzpatrick, winning in four 11-5, 11-6, 7-11, 11-7. Weightmans then secured their fifth rubber after another spectacular doubles match; Packer’s
Cimino and Peter Fitzpatrick came out of the gate strong, taking the first set 11-8, Weightmans firing back with a win in the second 11-7, and Packers regrouping and taking the third 11-9. Weightman’s shut Packers down in the fourth 11-3, but grappled with them in the fifth, eventually winning 11-9.
Weightmans would have been pretty comfortable with their 5-3 lead, but the night’s victory would ultimately go to Packers who won the last three singles matches in a row. John Fitzpatrick put up a good fight against Cimino but came off second best, losing 6-11, 10-12, 10-12, and in what was a disappointing game for Weightmans Sefer went down to Midgley after being two sets up, 11-4, 11-5, 8-11, 8-11, 9-11.

Then, to seal the win, Peter Fitzpatrick defeated daughter Therese in straight sets 11-8, 11-7, 11-8.
Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 22 games to 18.
Cookes Pools & Spas 6 Terry Martin (1), Duy Truong (2), Therese Fitzpatrick (2) defeated Mallee Meats 5 Jason Gifkins (3), Harry Gujral (0), James Jarvis (1).
Another very close game in round 3 which featured ladder leaders Mallee Meats suffering a loss against third-placed Cookes Pools & Spas who went into the match without their captain Quentin Clark. Substitute Terry Martin only managed one singles win, but Therese Fitzpatrick, who filled in for Cookes’ Michael Hensgen, took two singles wins which were critical for her team’s victory.
Fitzpatrick, who besides playing in this match also had her own team’s games to play on another table, had her work cut out for her when she went up against Gujral, who fought tooth and nail for the night’s first rubber. Fitzpatrick narrowly took the first set 15-13, but then Gujral rolled up his sleeves and took the second
and third 11-7, 11-7. But Fitzpatrick was unfazed, taking the last two sets 11-6, 11-8. The next game was another drawn-out five setter with Martin giving it his all against No.3 Jarvis but coming up short, 9-11, 11-8, 11-6, 7-11, 10-12. Aggregate leader Gifkins then defeated Truong in straight sets 11-8, 12-10, 13-11. Martin and Truong then teamed up to face off against Gifkins and Gujral and after just snatching the third set went down in the fourth 9-11, 5-11, 12-10, 4-11.
Up next, Martin won his only singles for the night, besting Gujral in three sets 11-6, 11-4, 11-5. The hard-working Fitzpatrick then put up a good fight against Gifkins but lost in four 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 8-11. Then Truong, after dropping a set to Jarvis took his first singles win in four sets 6-11, 11-5 11-6, 11-7. The score sat at 4-3 in Meat’s favour when Cookes levelled it in the second doubles, wearing Meats down after four sets 10-12, 11-9, 11-5, 11-6.

Skipper Gifkins did all he could to get his side over the line, defeating Martin soundly 9-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9; the score now 5-4. Truong fired back with a scathing win over Gujral 11-2, 11-4, 11-7 bringing the score to 5-5. The decider was Fitzpatrick versus Jarvis. By this point in the night, Fitzpatrick was all but spent, while Jarvis was eager for another scalp. He came out swinging, knocking Fitzpatrick back 11-9, 11-9 in the first two. Meats were looking like they had this last rubber in the bag, but they shouldn’t have counted Fitzpatrick out just yet. In the third set she just slipped past Jarvis to take it 14-12, and then, regaining her momentum beat Jarvis back 11-7, 11-4 to turn this night around and win it for her team. A hard-fought night and a well-deserved victory for Cookes.
Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 23 games to 21.

In the singles aggregate race Nhat Dat won three singles again to remain undefeated and he sits on 9 wins with Deegan Kerslake in second position on 7.
Both matches were close in the battle for the four points and overall there were ten five set matches played.
– Weightmans Packaging 7 (Nhat Dat 3, Steve Parker, Leo Parker 1) d Exposed Signage/Apparel 4 (Deegan Kerslake 2, Karly Leach, Brendon Johnson 1)
This was the meeting of the two undefeated teams with the Exposed team holding top position by a narrow percentage. The first two matches were a sign of things to come with both going to five sets and both thrillers. Weightman’s Steve Parker matched up against first year player Brendon Johnson and Steve realised early he was in for a torrid time when Brendon took the first two games narrowly. Steve played his usual steady way however Brendon played several winning forehands to surprise his opponent. Steve lifted to take the third and fourth and team mates witnessed a great struggle in the fifth with Brendon hanging on to win 12-10 11-8 6-12 12-14 11-8.
The second match was another amazing contest with Weightman’s number three Leo Parker almost causing a sensational upset against Exposed number one Karly Leach.
In the fourth Leo held a match point and in an interesting statistic Leo scored 11 8 13 13 and 13 points but lost. This was an outstanding effort by young Leo but to her credit Karly was able to remain calm under extreme pressure winning 6-11 11-8 11-13 15-13 15-13.
After being 0-2 after these two five set losses Weightman’s then were able to string together four wins with Nhat Dat winning two singles while steady Steve Parker caused a big upset defeating Karly Leach in straight sets. Steve and Dat combined in the first doubles to defeat Karly and Deegan in yet another close five set tussle. The Weightman’s pair took the points 12-10 14-12 9-11 7-11 11-8 a top class contest.

The doubles are crucial and after Deegan defeated Leo to reduce the deficit to 3-4 the second doubles was decided by the barest margin in the fifth. Victory came to Dat and Leo despite only scoring one point in the second game. Their opponents Karly and Brendon fought hard to keep their chances alive but the points went the way of Dat and Leo 12-10 1-11 11-6 6-11 12-10 a thriller.
With Weightman’s one win away from the four points skipper Dat matched up against Karly Leach and these two fought out another entertaining contest however it was Dat that won in four 11-9 5-11 12-10 11-3 securing the four points for Weightman’s and the outright lead on the ladder.
Deegan Kerslake improved the deficit by securing a four set 11-8 8-11 11-8 11-9 win over his more experienced opponent Steve Parker. The final match of the night was the fifth five setter with Leo Parker outlasting Brendon Johnson after trailing two games to love early. The match went on and on and eventually Leo won 11-4 11-9 9-11 9-11 11-6 a great contest between two fast improving players.

– Regional Taxation Services 6 (Steve Parker 2, Sam Campbell, Hayden Wilson 1) d Sammy’s Slammers 5 (Ryan Hensgen 3, Koby Grace, Yen Hwak 1)
In this match RTS skipper Sabrina Fitzpatrick was a late withdrawal and was replaced by the busy Steve Parker who was also playing on the table next door.
On paper this was going to be close and this is how the match eventuated.
As usual the doubles is always vital when seeking the four points and it was RTS who were able to win both, the common denominator being RTS number two Sam Campbell who played in both to enable her team win 6-5 despite trailing 4-5 late in the match.

Slammers skipper Ryan Hensgen showed his best form for the season winning three singles and if he can maintain that form it won’t be long before his team grabs a victory. Both his team mates were able to win a singles each , Koby Grace in his match against Hayden Wilson was down and out and amazingly he was able to survive four match points in the fourth to go on and win 11-13 10-12 11-6 12-10 11-5 what an effort.
Hensgen’s other team mate Yen Hawk also scored an impressive singles win by defeating opposing number two Sam Cambell in the first of five five setters that would take place. This was Yen’s best win to date.
For RTS fill in Steve Parker won two singles while Sam and Hayden won one each. Hayden showed good concentration to defeat Yen when the score stood at five rubbers all.

The third round brought a few surprises with it. Firstly the top team, Tankard Dental were put under pressure by their opposing team, with Weightman’s Packaging sneaking home with the win, to be equal ladders leaders. A similar finish occurred in the match between Mallee Meats and Dunkley Scales, with the later winning their first match for the season, to be in equal 3rd place. Dunkley’s Jake Hines was grinning from ear to ear, after he snuck in with his first individual win and also was part of the winning Doubles pair.
– Weightmans Packaging 6 (Glenn Leeson, Gary Leach 2, Eddie Parker 1) d Tankard Dental 5 (Leanne Wilson 3, Jakob Grzan 1)
Weightman’s : Glenn Leeson, Gary Leach and Eddie Parker. Tankard : Leanne Wilson, Ildi Healy and Jakob Grzan.

Weightman’s were up after the first set of Singles, with Glenn defeating Ildi, but not before a super battle between the two, taking it to five sets (9/11, 11/9, 11/7, 3/11, 11/4). It was a clean win to Gary, when he came up against Jakob, with Tankards number three introducing some new shots into his game, which will take a bit for him to perfect (11/5, 11/3, 11/6). Leanne didn’t disappoint, showing her skills, with a comprehensive win in her match against Weightman’s Eddie (11/4, 11/3, 11/2).
Glenn and Gary usually pull through in the Double, but Leanne and Ildi rocked the boat, with some excellent ball placement, Tankard pocketed the Rubber to level up the match (11/9, 15/13, 6/11, 11/6).
Leanne must have got a real feel for Glenn’s game in the Doubles, facing him in the next match, with a convincing three sets win, even though Glenn put the pressure on in the second set (11/7, 12/10, 11/6). Jakob put those new tactics to work when he came up against Eddie and this time it paid off, with a great fight falling the way of Tankard (11/9, 11/7, 11/7). Ildi and Gary had an amazing five sets, with both in the zone, determined to bring home the points for their respective teams. The middle set being forced to 14/12 and Gary eventually gathering the win (7/11, 11/9, 14/12, 8/11, 11/6).
With the Rubbers now sitting at 4 to 3, in Tankards favor, the final Doubles were going to be crucial. With Leanne not missing a beat and Jakob having a win over Eddie, you would have thought Tankard would have it in the bag, but, Doubles can bring out the unknown. Leanne and Jakob did win the second set, but the Weightman’s owned the match, finishing things off in four (12/10, 6/11, 11/6, 11/9).
Now we were back to base one, with an even keel again. The next two matches gave each team a Rubber, after Glenn’s winning three sets over Jakob (11/3, 11/6, 11/6) and Leanne’s win in three over Gary (11/7, 11/5, 11/5). So it all came down to the final match, which saw Eddie and Ildi pushing each other to the limit, with both executing some terrific shots. It was a five set struggle, but Eddie got the better of Ildi, giving Weightman’s the over all victory on the night.
WINNERS : Weightman’s Packaging 6 to Tankard Dental 5.
GAMES : 19 to 22.
– Dunkley Scales 6 (Maria Starikov 2, Jenny Leach, Jake Hines 1) d Mallee Meats 5 (Curtis Crabtree 3, Conner Burnett 2)
Mallee : Curtis Crabtree, Nathan Beard (fill in – Raylee Waugh) and Conner Burnett. Dunkley : Maria Starikov, Jenny Leach and Jake Hines.
Curtis and Jen were first up and the four setter saw Curtis taking control, only letting one set drop in his win (11/4, 5/11, 11/4, 11/5). Mallee also took the Rubber in the next match, with the improvement in Conner’s game showing he now has what it takes to pick up some good wins. Jake gave it his best, but Connor cleaned up in three sets (11/4, 11/4, 11/8). Maria didn’t waste any time in her defeat of Raylee, with some fantastic rallies along the way (11/3, 11/4, 11/8).
Maria and Jen surprised themselves in the first Doubles, in a tough fought match against Curtis and Connor, Dunkley marked up their second Rubber (13/11, 12/14, 11/3, 12/10).

Once again Connor played an exceptional game, with his capability to return almost every shot and throw down some mighty good winning serves. After four sets, Connor got came away with a deserving win (11/7, 11/6, 5/11, 11/9) over Jen. Maria put together a good clash when she faced Curtis, but was unable to sneak the win, with Mallee making it a four to two contest (11/8, 5/11, 11/8, 11/9). Jake and Raylee had a fair dinkum skirmish, with Jake as pleased as punch to have his first win for the season (11/9, 11/7, 9/11, 12/10).
The last Doubles saw the encounter between Mallee’s Curtis and Raylee and Dunkley’s Maria and Jake ending with the Rubber going the way of Dunkley. The pair of Maria and Jake also marked up their first Doubles win, bringing the Rubbers back to four each (11/7, 7/11, 11/8, 11/6).
Connor was very close to having a clean sweep in the Singles, with his final match being a ripper against Maria. The four sets were overflowing with rallies and the tension was growing. It took some sneaky shots from Maria to eventually leave with the win (13/11, 11/8, 10/12, 11/6). Raylee and Jen always make it a see sawing affair and this was no different. It was sheer determination that got Jen over the line, in a four sets win, to see Dunkley defeat Mallee (11/8, 8/11, 11/9, 11/9). Although the night had been declared to Dunkley, Curtis and Jake were yet to play and I think Jake had run out of steam by this time and Curtis found the match an easy win (11/3, 11/9, 11/1).
