– Tankard Dental 7 (Rohan Reimers, Paul Kealley, Jamie Kealley 2) d Weightmans Packaging 4 (Wayne Carmichael 3)
Weightmans opponents Tankard Dental going in to this match were languishing on the bottom of the ladder after losing their past three matches however in an excellent team performance the Weightmans trio of Rohan Reimers. Paul Kealley and Jamie Kealley all won two singles each and when Reimers and Jamie Kealley recovered in the second doubles from a 1-2 game deficit against experienced pair Wayne Carmichael and Lee Leeson to win 11-8 5-11 8-11 11-5 11-9 the scoreline in Tankard’s favour read 7-4 a solid victory given their recent form.
For Tankards 15-year-old Jamie Kealley continued his consistent form and is the leading number three player in the competition, while Tankard’s skipper Rohan Reimers showed his best results for some time and things may be falling into place for this very even team who with this win moved from sixth to fourth on the ladder.
– Mallee Bearings 6 (Jackson Tung, Liam Wood 2 Tom Morrison 1) d Cookes Pools & Spas 5 (Mark Dorman 2, Ed Hung, Edi Re 1)
Mallee Bearings received a scare against opponents Cookes Pools & Spas before holding on to win 6-5 and retain second place on the ladder albeit by percentage.
Cookes fill in Edi Re caused an upset early and gave Cookes a big chance when he played superbly to defeat Bearings skipper Jackson Tung in straight sets in what was an excellent match of hard hitting and great defence. Going into this match Tung was running second on the singles aggregate while Re played as a number three in the recent winter pennant. Re has improved immensely and this can partly be attributed to his solid practice over the past few months, his hitting partner has amazingly been Tung!!
It wasn’t all gloom and doom for Tung as he went on to win two singles and partner teammates Liam Wood and Tom Morrison to success in both doubles.
In a strange twist both Wood and Morrison would defeat Re in their singles, to ensure victory for their team. For Cooke’s Mark Dorman continued his consistency winning two singles and he currently is equal third on the singles aggregate.
– Regional Taxation Services 7 (Kate Carmichael 3, Thanh Nguyen 2) d Choices Flooring Mildura 4 (Leon Brown 2, Daniel Jansen, Reece Kurrle 1)
After back-to-back losses Regional Taxation Services bounced back this week to defeat Choices Flooring Mildura 7-4. The Choices team were coming in to this match full of confidence on a two-match winning streak after a slow start to the season. However, it was to be an unlucky round seven as Regional Taxation Services raced to a 7-2 lead before Choices Flooring won the last two singles in five sets to gain some respectability. Kate Carmichael led her team well winning three singles and a brace of doubles with teammates Thanh Nguyen and fill in Marcus Cimino.
Although Carmichael had played well it was Nguyen who was the star for Regional Taxation Services, in the first game of the night he defeated number three Daniel Jansen in a tough three setter before he caused the biggest upset in this match defeating opposing skipper Reece Kurrle, 11-5 9-11 11-5 11-7 an outstanding display of concentration against his hard-hitting opponent. Nguyen partnered Carmichael in the first doubles against talented pair Kurrle and Leon Brown, after being a close hard-fought match for the first four games Nguyen and Carmichael dominated the fifth winning 11-2. In his final singles Nguyen took to the table against Leon Brown, and this proved to be a marathon with Nguyen late in the fifth holding three match points before Brown was able to steady and win 12-10 6-11 11-9 10-12 13-11. Nguyen had gone oh so close to winning three singles in a fine display by him in this round. For Choices Flooring Brown had fought hard to win two singles, the best performer for his team.

Pinnnacle Packers 6 Rasin Bhuiyan (3), David Sergi (1), Thereses Fitzpatrick (1) defeated Weightman’s Packaging 5 Josh Arnold (2), Harry Gujral (2), James Jarvis (0).
Weightman’s Packaging, who currently are on top of this season’s ladder with 4 wins and 2 losses, just missed out on another win against fourth placed team Pinnacle Packers. With the final games count being 20 to 20, it couldn’t have been much closer! David Sergi pulled double duty this round, playing for his own team and filling in for Pinnacle Packer’s Ryan Peterson.
The first game was a long slog between Fitzpatrick and Gujral, with the former taking the first two sets comfortably 11-5, 11-6, but then Gujral regrouped and fought his way back to take the win 11-7, 11-7, 11-7. Packers captain Bhuiyan then beat out Jarvis in four sets, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9, 11-5. Opposing captain Arnold then took on fill-in Sergi and ended it in three, 13-11, 11-3, 11-9. Weightman’s took their third rubber in the first doubles, which they won in three sets, 11-9, 11-8, 11-7.
The score 3-1, Weightmans were halfway home, but Packers were unfazed. First Bhuiyan defeated Gujral in four, 4-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-7. Arnold then cut down Fitzpatrick promptly in straight sets, 11-5, 11-2, 16-14. In the next three hard fought games, Packers would turn the tables in their favour.
First up, Sergi took on Jarvis in another gruelling five set match; Sergi took the first 11-6, Jarvis the second 15-14, Sergi fired back with a win in the third 11-8, Jarvis then dominated in the fourth, winning 11-4, but Sergi struggled through in the fifth and took the win, 14-12. Packers continued to put the heat on Weightmans with a win in the second doubles, winning the first
two 11-7, 11-8, dropping the third 5-11, and wrapping it up in the fourth 11-9.
The score sat at 4 games all when Rasin and Arnold stepped up to play. Despite a very narrow win in the first set, Bhuiyan’s steady hand and cool head got him over the line; 12-10, 11-6, 11-9, bringing the score to 5-4 in Packer’s favour. Gujral then levelled the score with a win over Sergi in straight sets 11-5, 11-3, 11-5. At 5 games all, both teams looked to the final rubber to decide the win. Fitzpatrick and Jarvis then faced off, with Fitzpatrick taking home the win for her side, 11-7, 11-2, 11-9.
Final score 6 rubbers to 5 and 20 games to 20.
Mallee Meats 7 John Fitzpatrick (3), Mark Cleary (2), Karly Leach (0) defeated Cookes Pools and Spas 4 Ashley Morrison (2), David Sergi (1), Nhat Dat (1).
Mallee Meats jump from third to second place on the ladder after their win over Cookes in round 7. Once again, No. 3 Riley Clemence couldn’t be there on the night, so Karly Leach, up from Pennant 3 filled in for him. To save time and so that she wouldn’t have to play 9 games in one night, Leach’s matches against Morrison and Sergi were forfeited to Cookes, giving them a two-rubber lead.
The first game of the night paired up Dat and Cleary, with Cleary not wasting any time and taking the win in straight sets 11-3, 11-2, 11-9. Then, old enemies Sergi and Fitzpatrick faced off, with the former getting the first set but not without difficulty 12-10, then Fitzpatrick found his groove and took the next three 11-9, 11-9, 11-5. Fitzpatrick then paired up with Cleary to take on Cookes in the first doubles match, which they won comfortably, 11-7, 11-3, 11-6.
The score 3 games to 1 Meat’s way, Cookes needed to get back in the fight.
Morrison took out Cleary after a short three setter, 11-6,
11-9, 11-8, but teammate Dat went down to Fitzpatrick in three, 10-12, 11-2, 11-3, and to add to Cooke’s grief, they succumbed in the second doubles as well, going down 5-11, 11-3, 8-11, 7-11. The score 5-3, it was now or never for Cookes. Skipper Morrison was stalwart in his attempt to defeat Fitzpatrick, but after leading 2 sets to nil, lost the game 11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 5-11, 6-11 after giving it his absolute all in a game that pushed both players to the limits of their endurance. And after that win, Meats had their victory 6 games to 3. Cleary got another on the scoreboard by besting Sergi 11-5, 11-1, 11-4, and Dhat defeated Leach without too much trouble, 11-5, 11-8, 11-2.
Final score 7 rubbers to 4 and 21 games to 16.

Most points went through grueling rallies, with (Jen) the ump’s hands dripping with sweat in anticipation. An amazing watch, which fell to Karly in four sets and rewarding her with another undefeated week.
Young Jakob did a great job, for his first attempt at comp, even taking Curtis to 10 in one set, keep up the good work Jakob.
With Sam playing at a high level, very consistently, Jen had little hope of even sneaking a set from her, but there’s no doubt she was doing her darndest to try and change things up.
