Only one ladder change took place with Cookes Pools & Spas reclaiming fourth spot from Tankard Dental who dropped back to fifth albeit by percentage only.
– Cookes Pools & Spas 6 (Mark Dorman 3, Dylan Wood 2, Ed Hung 1) d Choices Flooring Mildura 5 (Reece Kurrle 2, Leon Brown 1)
The Cookes Pools & Spas versus Choices Flooring Mildura clash was unusual, the Choices team after winning the second doubles took a five rubbers to three lead. It was then that Choices skipper Reece Kurrle took to the table against Cooke’s Mark Dorman and when Kurrle raced through the first game winning 11-1 it looked ominous for Cooke’s however knowing his team’s season was on the line Dorman then stepped up showing his vast experience by taking the next three games and victory 11-8 11-9 11-5, Dorman continuing his consistent season.
Dorman’s teammates
Dylan Wood and Ed Hung then followed in their skippers’ footsteps by defeating Leon Brown and Daniel Jansen respectively to finalise a brilliant comeback to take the vital four points. Despite not winning a doubles, victory came with Dorman, Wood and Hung winning three, two and one singles respectively.
– Mallee Bearings 6 (Jackson Tung, Liam Wood 2, Tom Morrison 1) d Weightmans Packaging 5 (Wayne Carmichael 3, Russell Walder 1)
In a further exciting finish, ladder leader Weightmans Packaging were defeated for the second round in succession by the second placed Mallee Bearings 6-5. Late in the match when Weightmans Wayne Carmichael defeated Jackson Tung in straight sets his team took a 5-4 lead and straight away in the next match Weightmans Russell Walder was quickly away taking the first two games against Liam Wood it looked like Weightmans may have home however
Wood grabbed the third narrowly 13-11, he then was able to complete an excellent comeback to take the match in five sets, the last three games decided by the barest margin. It was a Houdini act by Wood as he had amazingly survived four match points much to the despair of Walder.
The scores were now five rubbers all and Weightmans Lee Lesson took to the table against Tom Morrison and spectators again witnessed another thriller, The less experienced Morrison took the first however Lesson then steadied with consistent play to win the second and third, it was then that Morrison lifted and after many fine rallies it was the Mallee Bearings number three Morrison who took the match 11-7 9-11 7-11 11-6 11-8 and in doing so his team had grabbed the four points and retained second place on the ladder only one win behind their opponents.
For the victors Jackson Tung and Liam Wood won two singles each while along with his singles Morrison had partnered Tung to win the all-important second doubles.
– Regional Taxation Services 6 (Kate Carmichael 3, Thanh Nguyen, Jason Gifkins 1) d Tankard Dental 5 (Rohan Reimers, Paul Kealley 2)
To complete the hat trick of close encounters third placed Regional Taxation Services won four of the last six rubbers to win 6-5 over Tankard Dental who slipped out of the four because of this loss. For RTS Kate Carmichael won three singles while her teammates Thanh Nguyen and Jason Gifkins picked up a win each. With the scores locked at five rubbers all two nervous players took to the table and it was anticipated that Tankards young gun Jamie Kealley may over power opponent Jason Gifkins however Gifkins was out of the blocks early comfortably winning the first.
Gifkins again started the second well however young Kealley settled late in the game to take if narrowly and then he proved too strong to take third in a game of many long rallies. Gifkins then showed excellent maturity controlling the fourth and motoring away in the fifth to win 11-4 10-12 7-11 11-8 11-4.
Gifkins had banked the four points for his team in fine style and his doubles victory with Carmichael was huge in the outcome.
For Tankards both Rohan Reimers and Paul Kealley won two singles each in the barrow loss, they also combined to win the first doubles.

Mallee Meats 7 John Fitzpatrick (2), Mark Cleary (3), Riley Clemence (0) defeated Pinnacle Packers 4 Rasin Bhuiyan (1), Ryan Peterson (2), Therese Fitzpatrick (1).
Mallee Meats jump up to the top of the ladder after their round 8 win against Pinnacle Packers. In addition to winning both doubles matches, Meat’s Mark Cleary proved instrumental in securing the victory for his team, winning all three of his singles matches in five sets.
Rising star Peterson took the evening’s first rubber against Clemence, winning in four, 11-9, 13-11, 9-11, 11-8. Brother and sister Fitzpatrick’s then faced off, with Therese Fitzpatrick winning the first set 11-8, but losing the next three 3-11, 7-11, 8-11. Next up was Cleary and Bhuiyan, with Cleary pulling off a daring win against Bhuiyan after five gruelling sets, 6-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8, 13-11. Meats then cleaned Packers out with relative ease in the first doubles, taking the win in three, 11-8, 11-8, 11-5.
Packers then launched a brief counterattack, with Peterson taking down Fitzpatrick, the latter winning the first set, 17-15, but Peterson striking back hard, taking the next three 11-8, 13-11, 12-10. Bhuiyan then brought the score to 3-3 with a win over Clemence, 11-4, 12-10, 11-4. The next four games were hard fought and could have potentially gone to either side, with every player bringing their A-game. First, Cleary went up against Fitzpatrick in another long drawn out five setter and took home the goods, 7-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-7, 11-9. Then Meats secured the second doubles, having little difficultly in the first two sets, winning 11-6, 11-9, but Packers made it difficult in the third, finally ceding the win 20-18.
Fitzpatrick and Bhuiyan then squared off in an exhausting four setter; the former taking the first 12-10, dropping the second to his opponent 4-11, and winning the next two 11-7, 16-14. Hard working Cleary then won his third five setter that night, besting Peterson 5-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-2, 13-11. The evening’s final rubber pitted Clemence against Fitzpatrick, with Fitzpatrick prevailing 11-3, 7-11, 11-5, 11-6.
Final score 7 rubbers to 4 and 24 games to 20.
Cookes Pools and Spas 6 Ashley Morrison (3), David Sergi (2), Nhat Dat (1) defeated Weightman’s Packaging 5 Josh Arnold (1), Harry Gujral (1), James Jarvis (1).
Once dominant team Weightman’s Packaging will drop down to second place on the ladder after losing to Cookes, who have stayed fairly consistent all season.
First up, Gujral and Sergi scrapped it out, the former taking the win, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5. Jarvis then struggled against Dat but secured the second rubber, 11-5, 12-10, 10-12, 11-9. The battle of the captains kicked off, with Arnold unable to topple Morrison, losing 12-14, 7-11, 10-12. The first doubles match was an epic contest, Cookes getting ahead early in the first two sets 13-11, 11-5, but somehow Weightmans managed to turn it around, taking the next three, 14-12, 11-7, 12-10.
Cookes didn’t hold back in the next two games; Sergi taking out Jarvis in three sets, 11-9, 11-9, 11-7 and Morrison dispatching Gujral also in three 11-4, 11-5, 11-5, bringing the game score to 3 games apiece. Weightman’s then scrambled to make up some ground, Arnold defeating Dat after dropping the first set to his opponent, 11-13, 11-7, 11-6, 11-4. He then teamed up with Jarvis to play the
second doubles, which they won but not without difficulty from Cookes, who put up a good fight, 14-12, 12-10, 11-7.
With a 5-3 lead, Weightmans were confident they would win the night, but Cookes dug deep, taking the next three rubbers to come from behind and steal the win. Morrison soundly defeated Jarvis 11-5, 11-7, 11-7 and teammate Sergi brought out the big guns to take down Arnold, finishing him in three 11-5, 11-9, 11-8. Then in a proper climax to the night, at 5 games all,
Dat narrowly defeated Gujral in five. He took the first set 11-6, lost the next two 11-5, 11-4, but came through in the last two to win 11-2, 11-9. Both teams can be happy with their efforts in what was a very close night with some quality table tennis matches.

PENNANT THREE:
A very exciting round 8 saw a few unexpected wins, with one in particularly coming from our newest youngster, Jakob Grzan, who filled in for two teams, a mighty effort and marked up his first competition win.
The two top Teams had to face one another and the pressure was on all teams to make the top four, as we approach the finals. Three Teams wound up with 4 points on the Ladder at the nights completion, which will make for an exhilarating couple of weeks.

With these two teams on top of the Ladder, no one was ready to give an inch, with four 5 set matches and four 4 set matches, which led to it being the last encounter for the night.
Gary was very focused in his meeting with Curtis and forced the match to five sets, with some energizing rallies. Although Gary was beaten by his daughter, he was pleased to collect a set from her.
It was thought Nick and Karly’s match might go to five sets, but it wasn’t to be. Nick had a convincing win in the first, but the undefeated Karly was determined to keep her run going and fought hard to seize the next three pulling out some amazing shots.
The hubby V wife, clash, of the Leach’s was the last match of the night and as it happened, the battle was on the night of their anniversary ? Gary had the upper hand in the first two sets, with some terrific rallies, which left the pressure on Jen to pull up her big girl pants, put on the blinkers and bring home the next three and surprisingly, she actually did it.
